When you did not have parents who in childhood see your positives but see only your negatives it becomes very difficult in adulthood to praise yourself and also self confidence suffers a lot , the parents continue to criticise you and see your negatives even in adulthood which keeps getting reinforced though you want to keep coming out of it

Thanks for your comments Vidya. This is the time to STOP IT! Stop the pattern of lies and negativity. Take full self-responsibility to speak your truth and honour your integrity. It does NOT matter how many times lies get reinforced that does NOT make them suddenly true! The truth is you are AWESOME and nothing that anyone else says can affect you unless you allow it to. So, make sure you take full self-responsibility for your self-talk and make it is the truth backed up with evidence. Thank you for taking the time and trouble to watch our videos and comment. I've discovered HSP topic 1 year ago, but I was deeply interested until recently. Having read about it brought me peace, comprehension, understanding. I've struggled with people since I can remember. I have been the weird relative, always set apart. The crazy. I've felt guilt all my life for being different. "I should be more social", always questioning my decisions, my motivations, all me. I think that one develops guilt about his/her sensitivity depending of the roughness of the people around us. It's fascinating how all my life I've thought of HSP related ideas without knowing of it, like that Krishnamurti quote: "It is no measure of health to be well adapted to a profoundly sick society". That wisdom was pure gold to my heart. Now, knowing about HSP just make me feel more confident, more considerate about myself.

I’ve been a therapist and went on a personal journey of truth. Once I saw how we are destroying the planet, our toxic food we give ourselves our children how we mistreat other people and living things it is depressing. Disappointed others don’t follow the truth. It’s hard to enjoy the world when you are aware of all the violence corruption and hate. how we haven’t learned from the past . I need to take responsibility to go forward. I’ve been frozen in what does it matter. I think is like to get stronger and will practice again in this area Love to you all.

I'm an HSP (do a test with 27 questions to find out if you're an HSP, by Elaine Aaron & she's written a book called The Highly Sensitive Person, I recommend it). The HSP's biggest fear is confrontation. Just the thought of it used to give me anxiety and insomnia for weeks, making me depressed & avoid the initial problem completely (the need for confrontation). What helped me was role-playing with a friend, when I needed to practise getting my point of view across in a future talk eg at work with my bully boss, or with my bully of a mother. I've learnt the outcome of the 'real' confrontation (with your boss, your mother etc) doesn't really matter. it's more important to stand up for yourself and get your point of view across & hear yourself speaking up , rather than having a positive outcome or expecting them to be able to compromise. This raises your self-esteem that you can speak up for yourself in a calm, gentle and compassionate way (when both of you are calm). They will respect you more for teaching them your point of view, which they never had a clue about before, as well as teaching them the best way to respectfully stand up for your basic human rights. All my office bosses were bullies who thought it was a good idea to lead with intimidation and fear. Rubbish bosses. What idiots. I left the corporate environment and now I work for myself (no bosses!!) and I do a meaningful job that gives me satisfaction and positive energy. I'm a care-giver to 1 lady and we love drawing and painting together - she's also an HSP. I'm learning a lot about how tricky it is to work so closely with a fussy, slow-thinking, highly curious, anxious, negative person who is also very loving, caring, clever, observant, compassionate and kind to me ie we are exactly the same!! I love her so much and I'm trying to encourage her to be as creative and imaginative as possible - to bring out the real spirit in her - and in myself. HSP's are the BEST.

I related to this SO MUCH! Especially the part about being empathetic to others but not ourselves. It’s almost like something switches in my mind and I can feel my whole self change when I am with others and helping them. I can feel my energy focusing outwards. But as soon as I’m alone it focuses inwards and it’s always so negative and self depreciating. I’m actually scared of my own inner critic 😂 and try to avoid it because it makes me feel so frustrated. It’s crazy how these things happen and how we don’t show the same kindness to ourselves. Thanks for another amazing video! X

As an AA woman, being an HSP never went over well with my family, community, or tribe. No matter how well I did in work, it didn't take long before I either got bored or felt that I was treated less than a human being. I was not just called overly sensitive, but demanding. Personally, I believe that the persons giving me the hardest time were HSPs in denial.

I’m an artist and my sensitivity is one of my biggest assets, but all my life, i grew up in a family that trampled over my sensitivity, and shamed me for it in all aspects, calling me crazy as a nickname. Being sensitive was bad, being creative was bad, sharing your emotions was wrong. My mother was also neglectful and purposely mean, because she thought it would make me change and toughen up, and by mean, she would say things that no child should hear from their parent. When I first was told I’m most likely HSP, my therapist told me I should learn to filter the things that come to me, build a wall to protect my heart, because I got deeply hurt, and it’s true that this past 5 years I’ve improved a lot, I’ve been able to be confront situations of conflict better than I used to, although always shaking and it takes a heavy toll on my body, and I’ve been able to be less affected by my mother and what people say. What I haven’t been able to defeat, however, is defeating that voice inside. It’s like a bad habit that keeps coming back, and from time to time, brings me down to a debilitating and paralyzing point. Also, after some traumatizing experiences in a relationship and some friendships, I hardened myself to a point where I don’t let almost anyone in, I don’t trust mostly anyone, and I will avoid people and situations just in order to not get hurt or abandoned, I fear breaking expectations so much, I have so much anxiety when talking to my superior at work to a detrimental point, even though they’re great people, and after loosing a very dear to my heart pet, who carried me through the hardest point of my life, my emotions where so deep and painful, i simply shut down, to the point sometimes I just forget how to feel anymore. Slowly, while repressing that pain, I also forgot how to be happy, how to enjoy things, and how to find purpose, which has always been important to me. While I know I wouldn’t be able to do what I do for a living without my sensitive trait, and I love what I do, sometimes I feel so lonely. I’m scared of ending up alone, but I’m also afraid of getting deeply hurt. I’m scared of loving so much, that when I loose them, like my bird, It’ll hurt as if I was going to die once again. Only when I write the words down like this, I can realize that it still hurts so much, but when I talk to people and go through therapy, I brush over these things quickly because I don’t want to break in front of them, unconsciously. When I talk about it with others I do in a way I don’t feel anything, but I don’t do that because I want to. So in the end, I’ve been in a spiral where I want to change, I want to heal, but i self sabotage, and can’t seem to open up myself anymore, or more like, I don’t know how. I’m so afraid of feeling, that I can’t even feel anymore.

So I've struggled with the same issue that Alex was making an example of. About being an emotional sponge and letting the emotions of people around me affect me. For me, when I did my own personal investigation it boiled down to feeling unworthy. The reason why I felt I had to absorb peoples emotions is because I wanted to make them feel better, take their pain away so that they could love me. I felt that was the only way people could love me, if I become a servant to them. Also if I knew what they were feeling, I could avoid confrontation. I still need to investigate this further but its a good start.

I'd recommend living on your own, if possible. It makes you think just about you (very important) and puts a barrier up between you and the people you soak the emotions from. when you get home, you are in your oasis of calm and relaxation, away from needy people, noise and over-stimulation.

I don’t agree to this approach. I may be wrong but I’m hap and I’m pretty sure my mother is and my children definitely are. I have slowly seen my mother cut herself off from the world in order to “tune into herself” she now has next to no contact with anyone and is unable to cope with the outside world. Why as an jsp should you live cut off from the world. You should be out there being and doing everything that you are wonderful at. You have just got to put in place some coping strategies and learn to place boundaries. I’m only just figuring this out. However I do agree that hsp really need time with themselves to rest and relax and be creative!!!!

Wu Wei Wisdom , is a little conflicting for me. As a highly sensitive person and having a family who doesn’t have filters or don’t thinking before they speak; it becomes a challenge to try to follow the “ yu” way. It’s more to highly sensitive.; I think this is describing more a stubborn sensitive person , rather than an empath who actually feels other’s emotion and suffers consequences and has no clue how to disengage from that environment.

34:21 : "...Why do you believe it is your responsibility to deal with other people's problems". This is the beginning of make things better for yourself as an HSP, it was an unconscious reflex I used to have and as David says all the time, "STOP IT!!!". You need to distance yourself from this, you need to let people solve their problems on their own.

The floodgate of understanding which has been unleashed since realizing I am a highly sensitive person makes me want to cry (haha!). To feel all of your life like everything is an battle I could never win and that I would be stuck having gotten the short end of the stick from birth, and then to have a profound understanding like this which leads to the acceptance and embracing of all aspects of me, there are no words. Realizing this is the only thing that has truly resonated or struck deep enough to really effect change in my life and make me feel less hopeless about my capabilities. This video is now one of my favorites and my go-to when I need to get back to center and reiterate understanding. Thank you immensely for this. I do want to say that being a highly sensitive person doesn’t necessarily make you empathic or particularly prone to constant displays of empathy. I can show it like the next person, but the thing about HSP is that you project your own reactions to things more than you are truly seeing the world or people for what and who they are, so often, your empathy is actually hindered, not bolstered, of course, you can be both empathic and highly sensitive, but people use them interchangeably too much. I don’t take on other people’s feelings as my own because I am often too wrapped up in my own responses to situations and stimuli. I just wanted to say that, but everything else in this video is SOOO accurate. Thank you!

I love this conversation, it’s like the conversation I have in my head, I’ve tried to develop a logical/critical voice to argue against myself when I start falling into sensitive thinking because I react emotionally to stuff rather than considering the facts. I always hyper focus on when something negatively triggers me, then spend so much energy over analysing why I felt like that and dragging stuff up from the past and connecting stuff from years ago to this one little event that happened. I’ve noticed that when something positively affects me I don’t put as much effort into thinking why, so I’m making a conscious effort to realise what affects me in a good way and let more of that in my life

This has become a huge problem with people being “triggered” by everything and ruled by their own victim mentality. The worst part is when they expect the rest of the world to to cater to their issues and feelings. Emotional intelligence should be taught in school. It would be hugely beneficial to EVERYONE. This is an excellent discussion on the topic.

My definition of sensitivity. A person with fine tuned awareness of subtleties that can be beneficial in the arts, helpful when empathy is required for others, but can be detrimental when empathy is not directed towards the self, or when others’ needs are regarded as more important the their own. Emotions are felt intensely and therefore can become overwhelming or traumatic, and can lead to overreaction. Extra sensitive people can be very creative, but this can be problematic if the imagination is used to catastrophise future outcomes as an attempt to control or otherwise be prepared for the worst in hope of avoiding unbearable intense emotions. The attempt to control others future actions and emotions, comes from an inflated sense of responsibility for others emotional well-being. To stop others from being unhappy, is an attempt to avoid personalised feelings of guilt. The futile effort to control others’ thoughts, actions and emotions in a non-existent future causes anxiety due to a lack in sense of control of that which is impossible to be controlled.

I definitely am going to watch that video again and again till I get it right. I have always taken care of everyone’s emotions except my own. Especially my family. It drives me crazy how out of touch they are. I just want to fix them. But now I am going to follow Wu Wei and take care of my own emotions because truthfully nobody else ever has given me the compassion I give them. I actually went out and bought myself a full length mirror just so I can learn to love my reflection which I hated for so long. I’m pretty cute if I may say so!

For me "sensitivity" means several inter-related things. I respond to the world and other people with feeling and antennae; I am active in various fine arts; I like beauty and touch; I can get hurt easily by hostility or manipulation (are they drawn to my sensitivity but afraid of it and thus "mess" with it?); I can feel overstimulated and exhausted--both energized and tired at the same time (not pleasant); I'm empathic--and very independent (perhaps, in part, a strategy for avoiding others). People close to me have also made the observation: "You're more like a woman than a man." (I'm heterosexual.) Sources of pain for me include: (apparent) disapproval from authority figures (i.e. they have more power than I, etc.); and difficulty sleeping after a day of exercise and creative work (CNS can't seem to calm down).

I understand you too. I'm highly creative since a young child. I was born sensitive and if my parents were alive they would agree. Being creative tho' is when I'm happiest X and most in peace. Even if it can be hard to wind down once the flow starts. But I remind myself I must take care of myself first. Everything else is less important.

I experience myself as highly sensitive with all the troubles as feeling easily overwhelmed etc. Now I learn here I have a CHOICE how I response and til which degree I want to be involved. Next few days I have challenging opportunities to practise and try out. It will be new behaviour for me! Scary but neccesary!!😮😊

Hi @arjaloggers4509, Thank you for your appreciation! It's wonderful to hear that you're embracing the concept of choice in how you respond to your sensitivity. Recognising that you have the power to choose your involvement is a significant step forward. Embracing new behaviors can indeed be daunting, but it's also a path to growth and self-discovery. Remember, every step you take is a step towards understanding and aligning with your true self. I always considered that it's my intuition that tells me what others are thinking and what they are going to do. Everytime it told me negative about others and everytime I believed it and labelled others as wrong or manipulators and avoided them. I'm then left with just myself thinking why people are like this, why they're thinking or doing this while I'm being good to them and being empathetic to them. I always then avoided such situations and people thinking that I'm protecting myself from negativity.

Most people don't realize what's going on with them. Though I was called sensitive, I never saw myself as sensitive. I saw myself as caring. Now, I know. But, that doesn't change the fact that HSPs draw narcissistic to us. Even though we may not ask others to change for us, yet others still expect us to change for them. My family remains indifferent to me after all these years. We are on our own and must stand up for ourselves and maintain healthy boundaries.

I feel extremely cursed with this "asset" as whenever I stand up for myself, confront someone; speak my truth/feelings I get responses like "you are too sensitive" or "you feel too much" or "you need to grow a thicker skin" instead of I can understand why you feel that way (validation) and now as a result of those repeated experiences I struggle with revealing those intimate details which of course threatens my ability to build and maintain healthy relationships bc I ultimately do not feel safe or trust that the person will respect and validate my feelings. I work in a workplace that is toxic and it is taking a serious toll on me. Having to work closely with harsh and insensitive people is so hard and it keeps me on edge all day because I am waiting for the shoe to drop always. Whenever I go out of my home I am always scanning my surroundings to see if it is safe.. PTSD. I have used marijuana as a crutch to numb myself out which of course is temporary. Anytime I talk about my feelings with parents I get eye-rolling like my feelings are insignificant. Many people are very insensitive and have no awareness of it and when you tactfully bring it to their attention they turn the tables on you and make it seem like you are asking for the world when you are only asking for basic respect. I seriously can not deal. How does one deal with this.. I work all day, live in an emotionally abusive household and workplace and there is no space for me to feel at peace and in a state where creativity can rise. How do highly sensitive people cope with narcissistic people?

Hi Jaclyn, Thank you for taking the time and trouble for watching and commenting on our videos we appreciate your support. I would ask you to meditate on the statement "I am the creator of my emotions, not the victim of them!" This is a very powerful statement, and the basis of spiritual and personal freedom. Most of my clients will intellectually accept that statement but, there is a part of their mind that we label the Inner Child that refuses to accept they are the creator of ALL emotions they are experiencing. I see this as a positive situation because then your learning and spiritual growth is completely down to you, no one else! You may consider receiving some professional guidance to get you on the authentic road. But, in my experience the majority of your emotional education can be self-taught and self-experienced. There is a lot of wisdom in really learning that others do not make me feel something, I choose to feel something. That being said, I struggled in a toxic career path for about 10 years, and leaving it was the best decision I ever made. Part of the choice over our feelings is choosing to stay in a toxic environment. And leaving that career was not easy - I was unemployed for quite a while, struggled with feeling lost without my profession, finding a new career path. But I'd take that struggle all over again over staying in a toxic work environment for years on end.

@@elmosalive you clearly understand yes... Im so sorry to hear that as I know how that feels and your feelings make complete sense... the eye-rolling is def invalidating for sure... without saying a word it communicates you are full of shit or your feelings are BS. It is not nice in the least. It is abusive. And then being in a relationship with someone else who basically reinforces those feelings and experiences is not good bc it does deep damage.

Hi guys! 🙂 I recently came across your videos and am currently 29 minutes into this one. I just wanted to suggest something. Whatever follows the words "I AM" is coming to find you. Why do you say, "I am a highly sensitive person" so many times, if you struggle with that reality?! 🤦🏽‍♀️Explore the possibility that you keep watering that plant and growing it. Or planting its seeds and reaping more of it in abundance. An alternative would be to say instead something like, "I am a balanced and centered person". Imagine reaping that in abundance. Wow. It would be heavenly. Anyway, your perspectives help the world so thank you for sharing. I hope what I just said helps you. If it doesn't, there will always be an abundance of solutions to explore in this world of ours! 😊

As a hsp, I appreciate the tenderness in your approach, THE calm rhythm, not hectic, or overwhelming, many people who claim to know and understand hsp, overlook the actual presentaion/ communication factor, The most important communication tool any person can use to convey a message to an hsp, without triggering the hsp to shut down or shut others out, is to use consciousness of words, their meaning and pleasant tones, tone of voice is really important, along with inflection, if the speech is too hurried, or the tone to high pitched, ( trigger warning!!!) skip to next paragraph. it's like nails on a chalkboard. Many hsps immediately look for a way out. My experience as a hsp from birth has lead me to understand that the way I process the environment, is much different, than my peers, what I experience is best explained like this, I'm half in this realm, and half out, I'm able to actually see intentions. Weird right? So, say a person is thinking, only using very subtle body language, that's enough information for me to gather their thoughts, their intentions, their past experiences, and their present state of being from the ethereal realm all the way down to the material realm.and everything in between. And interaction with others doesn't need to be anything other than them just being them, no bells or whistles, excuses or explanations, just them expressing who they truly are by just being present, is enough..from there, and that place, everything will naturally un fold, and blossom.

I work with a 60+ year old OCPD manager and it ripped open a lot of trauma I thought I had dealt with. He has an extreme sense of entitlement to control me. I was living radically open until he came along and I've had to learn to Gray Rock. Because I have PTSD from a similar style of parent it has been quite a journey of becoming MORE sensitive to my needs. I have to flow around him without investing any energy into his personal needs. I threw away a lot trying to navigate his needs and now he is still demanding but doesn't understand why I don't react anymore. I can tell it makes him feel weak and confused, but he would not listen when I told him his actions made ME feel that way. I have dips in mental health habits and I ruminate and have trouble letting the pendulum back towards center. The silver lining is that I don't think I will fall for another person like him again. I am more up front and direct with people and less reactionary towards others, but this OCPD guy is difficult for me to stay relaxed around. I try to Gray Rock his tells, but still be myself like I don't realize he is desperate for control. Maybe he will retire soon, but I want to break the trauma bond now and keep them from forming at all.

Thank you so much! I realize I still have more work to do. Many years ago before and while in therapy I used to walk around feeling and almost believing I was a sponge. I used to say, "My brain is a sponge." I absorbed so much stuff while working on surviving abuse issues and PTSD. I felt as tho' I could read people's minds but it was really energy (vibes) I was picking up from the people in my life. Or comments. Often it was negative energy because they just couldn't understand what or who I was because I was a bundle of jangled up nerves/depression/ like described here, even suicidal ideation. But I could also be deeply empathetic toward like-experienced survivors. People told me their stories and I absorbed all of that too but I felt I was a comfort so it was a bit easier than the negative energy I took in. This video is so helpful in reminding me what my therapists tried helping me with but not as great as your videos in really defining what the problem really is. I always connected everything back to childhood and other abuses, but I'm realizing in the past few months that I allowed myself to be a doormat so often. With many great videos from different sources I'm finally breaking free of this monkey on my back. The pendulum does swing the other way at times in my private alone-time settings, but that's just to get me to learn how to speak up for myself and the more I practice being strong for myself, the more I expect to hit the balance so that I can handle just being in the middle and calmly state my truths and even have the ability to let it go. I have in the past done this very thing often but I seem to keep falling back into this trap whenever a challenging situation arises in my life. This video is going to help me practice being in the middle by just letting go. I do repeat to myself the AA saying, "Let go and let God." That reminds me. One of my biggest weaknesses is worrying what people think about me. That practice goes right to my childhood in so many ways, especially related to a narcissist father. Seems we EMPATHs often get partnered with a narcissist(s).We learned to be doormats thru various abuses and now we have to work hard at changing our thought processes and let go or just finally let that little child cry which it wasn't allowed. We had to be the parent so to speak and now we have to go thru the child development stage we missed by taking care of our child. Thank you for your wonderful video.

Yes thank U .. I like “STOP 🛑 IT” . Good for difficult Boarderline Personality Disorder.. yes THX .. need to care for myself & protect myself because I am sensitive .. only now late in life am I able to turn away from harsh & insensitive family neighbors & others as a way self care .. .. I may not know what others are thinking but I know when I’m uncomfortable .. When my needs are unrecognized .. i use Truth and compassion as my Barometer.. it’s not hypersensitive .. it’s my standards ..

I am so greatful that I have found your channel. The meditations are so powerful, I especially do them before going to bed and I simply fall into such a great peace.. where I can let go of everything. Thank you David! Could you make a video on dealing with body issues? I am struggling a lot with my low self image, but especially about accepting getting bald at my age (30). I know I shouldn't be focused on it but it takes control and makes me feel so down and depressed. I think it is a very important issue to deal with, especially nowadays where social media puts so much pressure on the physical image, giving it to much importance. Thank you for all the love. Thank you for this wonderful wisdom ridge video! I honestly don’t know yet how I put that filter in place, to not sponge up everything, I honestly don’t know anymore what is mine and what is other... it’s only my first video of you both and the homework is waiting already and the golden tread is a wonderful way to see going into myself. Yes I did not learn from my parents how to deal with my sensitivity and often was told to suck it up the world is what it is, and the negative traits of me wehre highlighted or what was believed to be negative p... The world unfortunately still is that way, as I was hoping this crisis will make people more aware of what we do to ourselves and others, but nope nothing yet in my close environment... I will definitely listen in to more of your videos and I’ve started to read into your website. Thank you again and maybe the way you teach will help me learn about myself as much as I know or believe to know about others. Superpowers 🦸‍♀️ I like that...

From an evolutionary Psy point of view, sensitive people are often highly nurturing; with a perceptual system organized to care for the young. So we probably do absorb more energy, which is hard. What’s helped me most there is energetic NLP. But this view of taking full response ability to center with the golden thread, and see ourselves as there to support, not do for- those are jewels too.

Todays journal/message & reminder to myself- just sharing. Imagine every single time I talk to anyone else, there's a mirror reflecting back at me. Imagine they are me. See how my face looks? Imagine if I treated people the way I talk to myself? Imagine I'm on the receiving end of myself during every single endeavor I navigate, person I encounter. How would I recieve myself? See how I'm not responsible for others feelings? See how I'm not responsible for how people receive me?There's really no one else but me bc my body doesn't know that energy I'm vibing through has anything to do with that's going on outside me. It's within me, internalized. The toxic feelings I'm projecting outwardly are the very poison I literally have ruminating within myself. I'm my own best friend/enemy. I'm reacting to things that are outside of me, blaming those things & people for how I feel, emotions I create around the story I tell myself around those experiences. I tell myself it means something or should mean something when it's not true. When in fact, no one else can create what's happening within me, but me. I create those thoughts, I create my emotions, no one outside me has the power to control me...but me. How I try to navigate through life is a reflection of who I am not the story I tell myself about what someone's thinking or believing. I don't lie to myself by saying the situation at hand/past event should/ shouldn't be happening/ happened or things should be anything other, than exactly what it is. Saying it should/n't be is my argument with reality. When I lie to myself I attract people who lie to me too. When I love me I attract people who love me. Those are my thoughts/beliefs. This control I can't have over these things or people is what gives me anxiety, not the people or expectations I had of things/people. I don't & can't know what anyone else's thinking or believing & thank goodness. It's also none of my business. The mere idea what they even think about me, I created a problem that never existed by thinking their ideas or projections, judgements of me are or ever were, my problem or my business or my reality?? I remember, what I think of me is enough to worry about. What I think of me is all that matters. I keep me comfortable bc I don't know you, I know me. No one is angry at me or bc of me. They're angry bc of the story they tell themselves about me or the story they created of how I should/shouldn't be. Their expectations of me to show up any differently than I did, isn't my problem. I don't need to control how they see me bc they're gonna see me from the place they know themselves. I remember that all I put out will be returned. If I'm good to me, I teach others how I expect to be treated. Grand rising. Go create an amazing day for yourself. There is only you.

I am an HSP, but I am a fauna and flora empath. Animals break my heart. I constantly worry about any animal I see or hear about that may be in distress. I sometimes cry myself to sleep over it. I'm 63 and have been like this for my whole life. I used to save ants and give them cookie crumbs! I feel terrible remorse if I accidentally kill a spider. I wish I wasn't like this, it has made life much harder for me. But then I think of all the animals (and bugs!) I have saved and rescued because of it, and realize that someone has to be there for them. I wish I could balance it. I haven't even watched your video yet, so I'll do that now and maybe it will help. 😁

The reason I consider myself (HSP) is simply because: -They seem to enjoy their life easily and don't care too much about anything.(it's like they have zero emotions compared to mine) -I get attached to people easily and struggle to replace them even when they don't want to spend as much time with me as before.(I start thinking no one really likes me) -And when it comes into relationships, my life just turns upside down. I get attached to a girl then get rejected, I then see how another emotionless guy comes and the girl falls for him instantly even tough in reality I know I care about her more than the other ever will. PS: I'm not a skinny nerdy clingy ugly guy, I'm infact a fit muscular intelligent artistic guy and see myself as a good looking person and someone who you can trust for life, I just hate it when others don't really appreciate any of this😔.

Hi Harouto Thanks for your comments. As we explained in the video, being sensitive is a great asset, but you must learn how to control your emotions. Being sensitive does NOT give you a 'free pass' or excuse for not controlling your emotions and feelings (what we call 'Red-Lights'.). You raise a number of issues that would be difficult for me to address here. I suggest you watch some more of our videos... particularly the 'Inner Child' series for more understanding about seeking external validation and love - here are three videos that you may find particularly helpful - let us know what you think or if they raise any more questions for you: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gGLSnYaQZtyssJI / kzbin.info/www/bejne/eH6TnaCcd9F4aKc / kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3q1gWlopcZ6kKc You could also consider joining our free Wu Wei Wisdom Community Facebook Group, where you will find support and guidance on these type emotional issues and Life-lessons: facebook.com/groups/wuweiwisdomcommunity/ If you enjoy our video teachings please feel free to subscribe to our KZbin Channel (we regularly add new videos!) ➜ kzbin.info Thank you again for taking the time and trouble to watch and comment on our videos. My understanding is if you are sensitive, you are also perceptive?? I became aware of this over time. I used this to my advantage with my work and it worked. I like to listen , and often find that one comment from me can sort issues. Because you stand back and watch the agro enfold, doesn't mean you are weak. Let people cool down, and then give your opinion.

Alex sounds like an INFj - Introverted Intuition provides insights into people lives and motives, Extroverted Feeling is the driver that likes 'harmony' and makes us put other peoples needs first, but also makes us vunerable to criticism. Learning to love yourself, being mindful of negative self talk and stopping it (you can), focus on the issue being argued not the person (yourself of another). It requires a lot of concious self analysis but the rewards are great as you mention. So this also begs the question - are INF personality types more likely to be HSP ? seems logical that probably most probably are. Good Video thanks very supportive :-)

When I’m being hypersensitive, I don’t see it like those around me. Then, later, after I’ve made a fool of myself, I see reality, hoping it doesn’t happen again. After doing work on myself and understanding my HSP as an assett I realize why personally I avoided the confrontations. I grew up in a narcissistic parent where the emotions where devalued and sensitivity mocked. As I became an adult my romatic relationships where also with narcs bc its the love I understood. Therefore as I hear this discussion I can't help but mentioning the equal importance to surrounding yourself with healthy people, whenever you can control

I am highly sensitive and battle depression and anxiety. I was gaslighted and deemed weak because I felt things deeply. I find life precious and treat it as a gift, I get triggered all the time at this point I feel like I am worthless. I feel like a piece of shit. I am always tossed about. I am emotionally numb now. I lost my greatness. At this point, I wish I was dead. I don't want to live like this anymore.

32:45 I am an empath that would suck in every negative emotion around me. I would take on others problems as though they were happening to me. I would live it. I have learnt that when this happens.. I have to tell myself... these are not my emotions... I don't need to be burdened by them. It has helped me and I am still able to be there for others.

Hi David I so wanted to answer your question to Alex about why do you believe it's your responsibility to deal with other peoples problems? with, "because that's what I have always done" quite a light bulb moment for me there, thanks for that. Taking this a step further I asked "why have I always done that?" and the answer I got shocked me a bit. I did it because it made ME feel important. It wasn't an act of altruism it was an act of selfishness, I did it to make myself feel better. Amazing stuff.

I am on the calmer side of borderline who is also highly sensitive raised by a narrastic and an alcoholic. Learning to deal with my emotions, it is hard but your vifeos are really helping. I normally can confront people but most of the time it gets pushed down till i blow up, but lately i have been trying to explain myself in the beginning, i still get emotional and defensive, is there advice for controling my emotions while in a confrontation situation. I would love a highly sensitivity meditation, meditation is the thing that has really helped me.

I have a solution. When the external world becomes overwhelming, go into your imagination and create what you want to happen instead. The external is created from the internal. So to stay on a level we have to go inside and balance the energy within. It eases emotions. Sensitive people like me have creative imaginations therefore we can use it in its fullest. It’s a gift. Love that David - Adopt your centre. Practice Practice.

I hope I won't be pointing to your "competition", but in my case, I've reached out internally (inner child) using a psychology method called "IFS" and it's been a game changer. That doesn't mean it's not challenging at times, I've actually gone through a few weeks of being shaken up, but I'm seeing this as a challenge, a milestone in this evolution I've decided to undertake. Moments when I'm going through rough times are not great of course, but they are now seen as a moment to ask this question : What's wrong and how may I address it. What you've said in this vidéo is so true : we HSPs want to take care of others so badly and we need to change this behaviour/view of the world!

@ approximately 26 mins: "Why do you want to absorb other people's emotions?" Answer: In order to help heal the world and in so doing help thyself. Absorption is involuntary, although what we choose to do once the emotions are absorbed is voluntary, in times we're conscious of it. Doesn't consciousness of the external world via absorption lead to idea generation and potential action taken to help others? To me, absorption is fine and wanting to help others is fine, even admirable, as long as when doing so we remain as centered as possible. My guess is Mother Tereasa was highly sensitive, and thank goodness she used absorption as a source of information to help others.

Thanks for your comments Daniel :) I would guess we are going to disagree on this one. As I explained on the video, emotions are not a 'commodity' that can be absorbed. I also don't understand how absorbing other people's emotions heals the world. Nevertheless, if it's something that you enjoy doing and you believe it's helping then good luck to you. Thank you for taking the time and trouble to watch our video and write in. David

@@WuWeiWisdom No trouble at all. I learned and enjoyed it. Remaining centered in the pendulum resonated. Thank you for the thought, work, and effort. Although I've only absorbed this one so far, I plan to watch others asap. I have, personally, grown since first learning about Dr. Elaine Aron's work in Highly Sensitive People a few years ago. I loved learning sensitivity is, or can be, a strength rather than a weakness. Again, I enjoyed the video. Thank you!
