I used to have an Acebeam W30 and it was dive rated to 100M. The most fun thing you can do underwater is play with it in a swimming pool in darkness, its an absolute blast! It creates the ultimate fat light saber beam by cutting through the clear water and reflecting a bright haze in the beam from the dissolved solids (chlorine). This NLD is a near exact duplicate of the W30 and the discount price makes it a hella good value.

When I am exploring mines and when I need a thrower I use the ThruNite Catapult V6 that puts out a perfect diameter of light. Anything else would be too bright to be able to see what you’re looking at not to mention too far away to be able to see farther distances. And for that reason, I have decided not to buy a LEP flashlight. Thanks for another great review 👍🏼

1. Delivery services. A courier can use an LEP to check address or unit numbers from the road without using a thrower or flashlight that gets in windows and can make people nervous. Personal Experience: One of the throwers I use in my backyard isn't too bright, but the halo is very wide compared to the hotspot. There are residences that aren't part of our property off to one side that are separated by a chain link fence which is about 15'-20' away from our building side, and the residences over it are a bit farther. The halo of my thrower is so wide, it hits the windows and building across the fence. I had to make a sort of "hood" over the end of my light so the halo would be diminished. 2. Pest Control/Hunting. An LEP (if you don't have thermals/IR) can help you spot what you want to eliminate from a distance and may act as a range finder depending on what you are using to neutralize. 3. Speaking of, Range Finder! If you know what the general range of your LEP is and don't have an actual range finder (If you need one, get one. They are generally cheaper than an LEP lol!) you can judge how far away something is whether you're hunting, search and rescue, law enforcement, security, etc. 4. Total darkness in deep holes. There are some comments about seeing deep into mines and stuff. Imagine you're hiking and you are right next to a drop off but can't actually see what's down it because you don't have proper lighting. Disclaimer: I do not have an LEP. If I did have one though, one use I can think of that would be great is when I'm biking in the dark. My headlights only go so far away and while they hit reflectors and the reflective coating on signs from dozens or even over a hundred yards away, they don't actually give me the same distance in visibility (You can see my lights but I can't see you!) so having an LEP mounted in a downward angle pointed maybe 10 or more yards ahead of me on the pavement would give me advanced warning of people not wearing viz gear, animals, parked vehicles without lights or reflectors, structures such as tree planters or mailboxes, debris, etc.

I think they should try to make a (out) zoomable LEP flashlight, that can be useful even at shorter distances 🙂👍 I think Maxtoch made one, but it is really big and bulky. A pocket sized zoomable LEP would be the ideal thrower!
@stephanrosos4957 Жыл бұрын
I have one! The single 21700 zoomable LEP from Amutorch is the BT55. I got it from Nealsgadgets when they had a very limited supply for a great $230 price. It's much shorter than the W30, hence more practical, but its star feature is its 2-20 degree zoom range. While it creates an unusual beam profile when zoomed wide with the majority of the energy at the outer circumference of the beam... an even faint light in the center (an inverse hotspot arrangement), it makes the light extremely versatile for real world use. Instead of a laser narrow spot one trick pony as all the rest are. Maxtoch makes the LA60S which Amutorch duplicates its design with the BT55. The ultimate zoomable LEP is the unobtanium Acebeam W50. Recently there's a new zoomable LEP offering at Nealsgadgets from a new company Loop, an 18350 compact model with uber cool aesthetics that's $330 pricey. I was tempted until the 1Lumen review sample had major problems. IMHO, zoomie LEPs can be great real world lights. I hope to see more of them.

Yeah, there is no need for led/lep hybrids with a zoomable lep. When will the prices come down significantly with lep's? Anybody know about this lep technology and industry?
@FalconFXICCY Жыл бұрын
WelTool has a bezel cap diffuser that you can use on their W4Pro/W5 and it turns the light into a full on floodlight. It should be easy enough to make a slideable bezel add-on that can allow for slight variations of focus for the beam into a more larger throwspot. Acebeam and MaxToch have done it mechanically in-light. I'm sure the higher end brands like WelTool, Astrolux, NiteCore, Fenix and the like can do the same.

Matt, my absolute favorite throw-in-the-truck built like a tank light, is my Wurkkos DL70 diving light. It's IPX8 rated for 328ft and the color temp from the quad XHP50.2's is about as perfect as you can get. It needed some grip since the body isn't knurled, so I found that using the rubber coupling (yellow uncut rubber band material) for a Flowbee works perfect. Fits like a wet-suit and gives it high visibility. 👍 I'd like to see your opinion and do a lumen-test on this 13,000lumen mid-sized tank.

Yeah Matt, I think those diffuser-covers on 4ft office fixtures would do a better job as diffusing material. Last year I bought 2 diffusers from Neil for my Lumintop GT and GT Pro that kinda look like hard plastic baby-bottle tops. I've tried every way to get them on but they're too big to fit tight around the outside of the bezel and the cone shape is too steep to grip the bezel. Any ideas?? Great review as usual!!
@heathbecker420 Жыл бұрын
If they are thermo-plastic its possible to heat and reform them. If so then all you need to do is heat them a bit with a torch or maybe even boiling water and then stretch them over the bezel, as it cools it will shrink a bit making it a tighter fit so might have to do it again with some tape on the bezel, then remove plastic and then tape and then slip cooled and hardened plastic back over... do this at your own risk of course you may not have success and ruin your plastic diffuser.
@MAGGOT_VOMIT Жыл бұрын
@@heathbecker420 Ya really can't tell from the pics on Neil's site but the tapered angle of the cone, stops 5mm from the end. The kicker is, they made the inside of the cone 2.5mm thinner so that there is a prominent shoulder all the way around. This allows the diffuser to just sit square on the bezel like a loose lampshade. With the end of the diffuser being 5mm in diameter (2.5mm x 2) larger than the light's bezel and having a lip being only 5mm deep there's not enough "meat" to hold it on the bezel, even if I was to heat n' shrink it. I tried using 10mm wide rubber-bands (cut from a mountain-bike innertube), wrapped around the bezel for a tight fit. It held but again, the lip being so shallow made it easy to knock off the light. I'm going to try cutting a 40mm wide band from the inner-tube and super-gluing one end onto the diffuser. If that doesn't work I'm going to make a split-mold out of two different size pvc pipe and make my own diffusers out of silicone.
@heathbecker420 Жыл бұрын
@@MAGGOT_VOMIT You could probably have one 3d printed from translucent or even GitD filament. I have a 3d printer and have printed several GitD diffusers for various flashlights. I even have domes of the material that slip onto standard light bulbs so when I turn off my lights they glow quite bright for a few minutes then fade to near no glow over an hour or so but do glow very faintly for many many hours. I also have some flashlight wall hangers that glow so that I can always find my flashlights even in pitch dark.

A flashlight is a tool at the end of the day that serves a purpose. A flashlight with a decent moonlight mode, adequate spill and throw, is portable and has long runtimes is all I could ask for in a flashlight, and I'm asking a lot. Thankfully, there are plenty of great flashlights that meet these criteria. The Acebeam P17 and the Sofirn SP33S are two such examples. LEPs serve no purpose in my life. They may be useful for hunters, for mounting on a hunting rifle, but I'm no hunter, so that leaves me out of that category. Okay, my rant is over...

Yes, I had the original W30 and it was DIVE RATED to 100M. Many lights can withstand dunking, but it's risky with high temperature lights that are expanding gas internally and stressing the seals. The NLD/W30 is meant to be used continuously at depth making it one of a kind.
