A good story to tell would be the Ireland - England friendly match held in Dublin in the 90's, when english fans were place on balkonies above irish families fans out to see the match below proceeded to rip out seats and hurl them at fans below. Along with bats, I think pee pee was involved. After the english fans were escorted by Gardai to the trainstation, whom the also preceeded to abuse. Lads! Those cops kept yee safe!

When i was a kid my uncle took me to my 1st footie match in 89 i think.... I remember it was Chelsea v Liverpool. I enjoyed it but at the end of the match all these fans tried jumping the barriers to get on the field. We were right at the front & i remember being kicked & stamped on & seeing my uncle being pushed further & further away from me. Then i remember these guys forming a barrier or a kind of human cocoon around me & protecting me. I remember looking up & seeing these guys faces in agony as they were taking all the kicks & stamping for me.... If it wasn't for them guys there's no chance my little body would've survived such a beating!... After it calmed down which for me seemed like it took forever my uncle comes out of nowhere in tears (& a bloody face) to get me. All the guys that protected me gave me hugs... My heroes!

@darthpepe2994 some Liverpool fans had been drinking before the match, English football was plagued by hooliganism and Liverpool fans had a reputation from Heysal. I stress, it was a *minority* of fans who contributed to the disaster, not the majority of them. The primary blame must (and rightfully) go to the FA and South Yorkshire Police. 49.5% to the FA, 49.5% to the police and 1% to the fans.

my mother was at the front of the Love Parade disaster in 2010, 21 people died, nearly 700 got heavily injured, 6 committed unaliving due to the trauma later... my mother was 50 at the time, short woman, i didnt even knew she went but i knew about my gf at the time maybe going there and when i first heard about the panic i frantically for hours tried to reach her... she went to mcdonalds after seeing the crowed being too big and then going off with a friend... my mother was at the front lines near the middle of the crush, a tall random dude was pulling her up and holding her, because being quite short, she was about to get dragged down over and over again, after years of therapy, my mother is now capable of spotting him, with her in his arms on pictures or video footage without breaking down in tears... he saved her and basically vanished to help others once they got out, but at that time it was almost over and nothing to save left... the trauma is still in her, she doesnt like crowded places anymore understandably and got away with rather minor injuries... the worst being neck, spine and hip damage, she needed physical therapy that the german healthcare system tried to deny for years ("your fault for going there"... no joke) until she found someone that helped her basically cheat her way into getting what she deserved and these days is a functioning person again... it looks so harmless like, great some people pushing... and then you hear your broken mother with lifeless eyes talk about mangled corpses they dragged out next to her... it was a close call, on her own it would have been 22, so i thank that dude if i would remember his name right now... sven maybe? have to ask her again... shes forever in your debt, and so am i... sry for my bad name memory

I hate being at the mercy of the crowd like that. Worst time it happened to me was at Coachella. People in the back of the crowd in front of this stage start pushing to get closer, everyone in the middle is screaming, to stop and back up, and no way out. The stage luckily had several open side exits along the walls, so most people being squeezed started pushing towards those and we were able to get out. So I ended up skipping that one and went back to my tent to have drinks

He always really struggles to talk about what happened that day, and struggles to fathom having to watch what happened in front of him and his friends. He still goes to Forest games to this day, but as his son I can still see how hard it is for him in crowded places. Imaginably so. He’s such a happy and kind man, but on the 15th of April every year, I can always tell he struggles with what happened nearly 40 years ago. I'm a massive Sheffield Wednesday Supporter. The memorial outside the ground ia forever covered with flowers, liverpool flags and scarves, and notes written for the 96 victims. Souh Yorkshire police actively participated in libelous and slanderous actions against the victims knowing full well they had gotten it horribly wrong. That it took so long to finally convict the key instigators tells so much about the institutional rot and closing of ranks that took place. Hillsborough remains a throwback to the past era of football stadiums. The ground remains subject to close scrutiny by the authorities whenever high profile games take place there.

An important reminder that crowd crushes aren't a matter of individuals or even group psychology. It's almost a matter of fluid dynamics as literally everyone in the crowd is being directed by at least five other people and their own actions direct at least ten others. The only way to stop it is to get the entire crowd to stop moving at once which can only really be done with a PA system.

Anyone who attended football in the 80s will tell you it was only a matter of time before something like this happened there were crushes every weekend that somehow didn't cause fatalities. Probably a painful way to go, and even if you don't die that sure as hell can't be a pleasurable experience even if you're a huge football fan. I was born in 1983 and I'm Irish. I have very little to no memory of this event but this was such a desperate tragedy, so very sad. The trauma from this must have been horrific. To be honest while there were a huge amount of factors in play here I would still consider this to be a very tragic accident. There was a great deal of police adding to the problems here but you have to consider that all this happened in a very short amount of time and they did at least attempt to delay the kickoff. The biggest disgrace about this tragedy in my opinion was the sheer lies and deflection from the police in a face saving effort after the fact. That and the police pushing the people back into the pens when it was obviously a panic and crisis was incredibly hard to forgive.
