U didn’t lose 20 yrs of life. Being a doctor thru perseverance and hard work and then serving people and saving lives daily is nothing compared to any startup you are saying. To help people thru ur job is a blessing in disguise, we as doctors feel that, that’s why we chose this profession. Of course in midlife u can incorporate ur knowledge with and improvise it to different fields, that’s what u r doing now.

Namaskaram Dr Nene! From cold, sunny Denver Colorado. This is always an ongoing debate as to what kids ought to pursue , especially in East Asian communities. In spite of what you wanted to do, your acknowledgment that parents worked hard to make you a great doctor. Times are changing, and opportunities are getting to be of varying interest and so kids decide what they want.. but in all that said, even with you as parents would perhaps nudge kids to pick a profession that gives better stability! Right?

Loved the conversation, Doc. My take on your point about wasting 20 years is leaning more toward your parents' viewpoint. They made the best decision at that stage keeping in mind the probabilities of success for their son and, in the long run, it's worked out well so there shouldn't be any cause for regret. The road might have been a lot bumpier if you had tried the start-up route when you didn't have a sound financial background. The financial safety net tends to help in better decision-making and facilitates the ability to stick it out even if the going is tough.

We are grateful for such an eye opening conversation. In this generation kids need to have such a strong conversation and relationship with their parents to achieve their goals. Whatever we learn and gain knowledge is never wasted, in one or the other way it gets useful- the way Sriram Sir used his medical knowledge and started up his business. Thank you Sir and gratitude to elderly Nene family for developing the sensibility in all of their kids to choose the right path.
