They are the last remnants of the once great kingdom of Arnor. They would dwell and operate in secret, protecting the inhabitants of Eriador while kindling the hope that one of their line would one day bring the kingdom back to its former glory.

Then you must Be OK with non-canonical writings like RoP is receiving a lot of undeserved heat for - because someone will have to do a lot of fleshing in as Tolkien only gave bare outlines concerning those days and the conflicts.... Which BTW does not bother me, I adore RoP and enjoy it thoroughly (just posting this too stir up the pot, ha ha)
@TheSuperappelflap

@fueledbylove 17 күн бұрын
@@TheSuperappelflap That's an astute observation, neither of those is ideal. But I do not see the "problem" because RoP is entertainment and a huge fanbase is delighted with watching it. The relationship between Elrond, and particularly his sons, and the Dunedain of the North is an extremely interesting one. Elrond commonly is referred to as an Elf. And he indeed, forced to choose, took the Elvish side of his lineage. But he remains "mighty among both Elves and Men." And his sons may look like Elf lords. But they have not yet made their choice. And clearly are very close with the surviving Dunedain.
@neil999ish
@neil999ish 28 күн бұрын
The Dunedin of the north were survivors of the down fall of Numenor. When Numenor fell some of the survivors landed to found Gondor and some Arnor. They were seperated by the cataclysm of Numenor's fall. Thus, they were related to Elrond through his brother who took the choice of men after Morgoth's defeat.
@agent_orange925
@agent_orange925 22 күн бұрын
Dunedains are are noble bloods because they are the descendants of the numenorians. Elros who chose to be a man founded the kingdom of numenor which is also the twin brother of Elrond. Lord Elrond also fostered every descendants of Isildur so that one day they could unite the kingdom of arnor & gondor. By the way Isildur is the son Elendil who led the survivors of numenor to middle earth and he founded arnor & gondor together with his sons.

Dude, I’m not gonna lie, you’re probably one of my favorite KZbinrs at the minute. I’ve always loved Lord of the Rings, but I never really knew much about it other than what happens in the movies. When I found your channel I basically instantly became in love with it, so whenever I’m bored I just go onto KZbin and look for an interesting video to watch, and usually I end up watching one of your videos. The editing style is smooth and clean and the way you show characters on the map is awesome. About a week ago I had to go to the hospital, and it was like 3:00 in the morning and I was bored, so while I was in the room I showed my dad (who absolutely LOVES the movies, I can’t even articulate how much he does) your entire 40 minute Morgoth video, since he hadn’t seen much about the time of Baleriand and all that. We were both solidly entertained for the entire runtime of the video, and it was an awesome way to brighten the mood. Awesome content dude, keep it up.

This just makes me wonder why these guys weren't in the movies. Having them show up to help Aragorn makes more sense than elves at Helms Deep, and kind of fosters the overall narrative thread of men taking over as the last of the elves leave Middle-earth.

Because the people making the movies made an effort to slightly reduce the massive amount of characters in the story. Which is why they changed Glorfindel, the elf who rescues Frodo and brings him to Rivendel, to Arwen, for example, and combined or removed a bunch of other characters like the hobbit Fatty Bolger (or was it Bulger?) and of course Tom Bombadil. If they hadnt done that the movies would have had even more named characters and it was already a massive cast even with these changes.

A lot of pretty hardcore Tolkien fans don't realize that after the war of the ring is over and Gondor is sorted out King Elessar returns to the north and rebuilds the capital city of Annuminas. So he actually rules the reunited Kingdoms from very close to the Shire, and Sam's children frequently visit there.

@@Enerdhil various sources like the dropped epilogue to LotR where Sam's daughter Eleanor refers to him rebuilding his house in Annuminas. And various references in The History of Middle Earth. Annuminas is also where the council of the North was held. It also has to be assumed that King Elessar ruled from Minas Tirith and his son was in Arnor, remember Eldarion lived 120 years before he took the throne. He did stuff. He almost certainly looked over the complete reconstruction of the Northern Kingdom while his father finished pacifying the South, dismantled Minas Morgul and the rest of Sauron's realm and his former vassals. There was an entire lifetime needed to repair middle earth. Recently I've heard the third age referred to as a post apocalyptic setting. I think that the best way to think of it. It's a depopulated ruined world.

How? There's little to no information given by Tolkien about him. Just that he was Aragorn and Arwen's only son and he took over after Aragon gave up his life. The only other detail I can think of is that he didn't live as long as is father... The long life of Numenorian's faded after Aragorn. Which I find interesting, as the pairing of Aragorn and Arwen should have restored some degree of longevity to his line, seeing that Arwen was of elf blood.

@NerdoftheRings has it ever been explored why the Rangers didn't; Regroup in Tharbad or Bree ? Tharbad was a Numenorion City? Why communication with Gondor was ceased? Why they guarded Eraidor in secret? Surely Bree and Shire would have been interested in helping to keep their own lands safe.

I think it was because they finally had to acknowledge that the Witch-King had a major hard-on for all things Arnorian, and and after being so thoroughly crushed by him that any attempt to officially "assemble" would simply bring wrath and ruin on them, and anyone who was seen to be supportive of them. Their best hope was to decentralize, and bide their time until conditions changed.

Man the kingdom of Arnor is so fascinating to me cause we know less about it. Gondor gets all the hype of course cause of lotr, but it's wild to think that Arnor was just as glorious once upon a time, so much so that the high kings chose to live there...

After the Return of the King, things in Eriador were remained pretty disorganized for quite a while, and people were pretty scattered. For over half a century after the end of the War of the Ring, the Arnor Rangers were the Law in those parts...

Hey, quick video idea. You should do a video on the cosmology of EA. Like, the outer void, the universe, the door of night, the timeless halls (Whatever that is, I saw it somewhere). I think that'd be an awesome video.

Sucks that they're not all seen in the films (though the 1981 radio dramas compensate). These guys are absolute brave lads for still going strong after a harsh fall and not having any dissident elements as is expected of remnants like them. Would have loved to see their lives outside of the duty though. Am curious to have wanted to see their bedraggled families and communities, who should also be part of Arnor's remnants. I really hope the Dúnedain gave good tidings for Bandobras Took after his fine defense of Hobbitfolk. 6:51: Didn't he still have the steed in the Jackson-verse films? You know, if there's a Multiversal defense force out there in time and space, I bet they have some Dúnedain members on their ranks, because they're that good at fighting and also quite a pure intentioned folk. However, that also means they probably would have faked their demises, so to join a bigger cause and not be swamped by double duty.

It would be interesting to know how many humans actually lived in Eriador at the time of the war of the ring. I don't think there were very many of them. We know of Bree and its surrounding area of course, but other than that it seems there are only a few settlements here and there like fishing villages. The number of the Rangers probably wasn't higher than a few hundred. So I think the resettlement of Tharbad, Annúminas and other places would have required a rather substantial colonisation effort from Gondor.

One thing I am very interested in Is the question, can Uruk-hai be good or become good? I got the idea of a Hobbit or a young elf falling into the mud in isengard and turning into an Uruk-hai. That's cause I way more familiar with the movies then the books though. I am sort of aware of that difference between how Uruk-hai are created in the books compared to the movie. The idea I had was the mud basically having a strange effect on either a kid elf or a hobbit as of yesterday lol. The Hobbit becomes a little Uruk-hai but does not recognize Saruman as his ruler. Saruman attempts to destroy the Uruk-hai but he escapes and wonders around in the wild. He first tries to return home but his people think he is the enemy and try to kill him. He ends up being hunted by men, elves, and Saruman's army. But he manages to survive and meet the fellowship of the ring. Who luckily end up accepting him into there group after he helps them fight off a group of orcs.

Gollum didn't so much the Ring as much as the Ring abandoned Gollum. There's part of a conversation between Gandalf and Frodo that talks about this although I don't remember off the top of my head if that happened at Bag End or in Rivendell.

I agree with you. There had to be scattered homesteads around Bree and the Shire to protect those areas, unless the Rangers were separated from the families and friends for years at a time. Also, during that time, we know that there were Trolls in that region and, as it turned out, Orcs too. Not a smart place to settle down. South of Rivendell would have been much safer. Or even further west like you suggest.

Since I dont know anythinng about the lore. U should make a insightfull video about the mechanics and nature of the magic in Arda, or why the elven rings lost their powers. I cant understand the logic since the elven ring were never made by the dark lord or why elf if they stay in the planet they will start to fade away after the rings lost their powers.
@user-ui3dv5ek7l
@user-ui3dv5ek7l Ай бұрын
The rings of power were made using Sauron's ringlore, even though Celebrimbor made the Three rings without the direct help of Sauron. Therefore, when the One was destroyed, the Three lost their power too and the elves could not stop the decay of time anymore. For example, Nenya was used by Galadriel to preserve the beauty of Lothlorien. When her ring of power lost its power when the One ring was destroyed, this was no longer possible.
