Love the Efteling and love this coaster! It's so smooth! They actually changed the translation of 'witte wieven' from 'white women' to 'wailing women' on the ride, because the warning "Beware of white women" was a bit confusing to some tourists lol

I love the whole theme of "hoogmoed" in this ride. This word translates to "pride" but carries the negative meaning of that word (arrogance). Of you translate it literally the word says "high courage". One of the wailing women screams at you before you climb the lifthill "Hoogmoed komt voor den val" this saying means something like "arrogance will lead you to failure". But the literal translation of it is "arrogance (hoogmoed) comes before the drop (val)". A great way of adding Dutch sayings and folklore to a dive coaster. Efteling is full of this type of Easter eggs. Your best way to experience this park is taking a designated dutchy with you. We are very proud of this park and would all love to translate everything for you

DerAllesKommentierer The start is great indeed and i love the atmosphere but Taron in Phantasialand is the best themed Coaster ever for me since it is themed trough the whole ride and not only at lunch or first drop like most coasters...and also much more intense. I love De Efteling (was there just yesterday) but all coasters there are a bit too lame (beside Joris En De Draak but it almost hurts too much and isn’t smooth at all) and very short and the coasters itself are not completly integrated like f.e. Taron.

Efteling's marketing is very clever. Everytime a new sensational ride is introduced like this there is even a TV show made about it to tell the story. It's in Dutch naturally and is aired on one of our children channels. They are often pretty good. It shows how much they love fairytales themselves and it's a clever way to make children wanna go to the Efteling. Parents are no problem usually. It's not that expensive and who doesn't wanna be a child again for a day.

Loved the vid. I was actually one of the actors, kompels in the short movie about the background. Two tays of shooting was quite fun. First half in the inn was shot in the restaurant in Ravelijn. And the second part was at the attraction itself. It was really hot that day. But loved every minute of it. You can see me several times, for example when the mineworkers (kompels) are fleeing from the mine elevator. I am one of them.

Me and my friend both had a day off of school on a rainy fall monday. So bought tickets that weekend hoping that because of the rain it'd be quiet. Turns out we only had two ten minute showers and yet the park was desserted, we rode all rides atleast 10x oftentimes the attendants would ask if we wanted another go since noone was waiting. We spent the rain riding the indoor coaster, walking around and immediatly being able to get in another ride. Best theme park experience i've had. Spent maybe 5mins waiting the whole day and did prettymuch every ride multiple times. Attendents are super relaxed when it's quiet too.

A lot of people seem to miss that the word (and character name) Hoogmoed literally means 'hubris' in Dutch. A term that is key for Gustav's character. The wailing women even say right before the lift takes you upwards: "hoogmoed komt voor den val". Which means, "hubris comes before the fall".

I've been going to the Efteling at least once a year since I was born and the park itself is absolutely gorgeous. I love how they have multiple "main themes" (Ruigrijk, Anderrijk etc.) and within each main theme, they still manage to give each ride their own theme as well, without completely ruining the vibe of the area you're in. When this ride opened, I was so excited to ride it even though I had to wait for over a year (due to my family being scared or injured at that time) but it was 110% worth waiting for. It amazed me how the story managed to really give you an understanding of what the ride was based on. 11/10 would recommend to check it out if you ever have the chance.

It's one of my favourite rides ever! Before Baron, I didn't really get the point of theming - most rides have really superficial theming that makes you think "what is even the point if you're going to do so little". But the whole queuing experience in Baron 1898 legit gave me chills, I was starting to wonder if maybe there really WAS a curse! The music and singing is so carefully timed and pitched, halfway between mysterious and eerie. It adds so much to the ride experience, the thrills really do start even before you go up the lift. And then after the drop it's just such a smooth, perfectly crafted ride. Just bliss. Looking forward to going again!

i live quite close to Efteling (30 minute car ride) and literally came back from a 3 day visit to the park today and i can assure all of you guys, it is the best rollercoaster there in terms of just thrills. hanging for 2 seconds over that big gaping hole when all the people from down below are looking at you and then suddenly falling through the hole and making a loop is just amazing. although my favorite rollercoaster in Efteling is still Python because of its history. and just for the sake of it my top 5 efteling rides: 5 - fata morgana, a moroccan styled boat ride through beautifull enviroments. 4 - Droomvlucht (Dreamflight), a hanging experience like fata morgana only now with dream like enviroments. Regarded by many as the best attraction in Efteling because of its sheer beauty. 3 - Joris en de Draak (Joris and the Dragon), a wooden coaster where 2 trains race against each other to see who is the fastest. 2 - Baron 1898, the video explains why this one is so awesome. 1 - Python, a coaster with 2 loops and 2 barrel rolls 20 seconds apart from each other, this one is my absolute favorite because it has been around since the '80s and seeing the coaster back then is just reaaaaal cool.

It made me scream at the top of my lungs but it was SO short. Worth the 40 minute wait though.

I didn’t know you where a channel that tells the making and the story behind the rides in the Efteling, I must say: GREAT WORK!!! I probably learned more about the story here than on the actual rides and site

When Baron 1898 is a fantastic experience. When I was at Efteling in December. I when on Baton at the end of the day as the last ride and had 5 laps of the coaster with out having to get off the train. Had to move from the front to the second row though. Also it was in the night to add to the experience.

I love the Efteling! It's a very relaxing park and there's something for every age. I chickened out of going on the Baron (we call it 'de Baron' for short) on the last moment, but I'll definitely go on it next time :D

I love the Efteling so much de Baron 1898 is one of my favorite attractions in the Efteling. And if you are scared to get in a rollercoaster you can also only listen to the instructions before the ride, so then you know the story too. There is a also a book with the same name in the Efteling shop written by a famous children books writer, and it tells you the whole story. And btw some Dutch people believe there are Witte Wieven here. And they're supposed to hang around in "heides", and these are also in Brabant where the Efteling is so it is kinda realistic that de Witte Wieven are there 🙃
