Oh, I thought it would go all the way back to the Principality of Polotsk and of course the Grand Duchy of Lithuania - the multietnic polity in which the lands of modern Belarus were for the longest period of time in the recorded history, and Belarusian patriots are very much looking back to it, as the historical funndament of their identity. I think that Belarus is now more important than most people realize. Belarusian volunteers are currently fighting on the Ukrainian side in the Kastuś Kalinouski Battalion and other units, which are constantly gathering new recruits. The Belarusian democratic opposition in exile led by Svetlana Tsikhanouskaya is also supporting Ukraine. Belarusian hacktivist collective 'Cyber Partisans' is doing its part. Railway workers in Belarus have been sabotaging Russian Military's logistics. Lukashenko's troops haven't took active part in the invasion, probably because of their low morale. The possible Ukrainian victory in the current war will be crucial to the fate of Belarus and the fate of Belarus will be crucial to the situation in Europe in the comming years - democratic Belarus, free from both its own dictator and Moscow's influence, allied with Ukraine and the West, would be the ultimate nail to the coffin of Russian imperialism. Жыве Беларусь!

Belarus has a great history, had all 3 Abrahamic faiths living in harmony & many people tragically died by Nazism in ww2. 25% of the population, maybe some of the highest depopulation numbers ever recorded. It's a shame such innocent people the Belarusians are experiencing such racism again by the west now, banning them from sports events, services, when The west & US has the most blood on its hands by far. Lukashenko also was also one of the only leaders, barring some in Africa that did not sell his country out to the world bank & other elite cretins, & did not lockdown. As for this conflict, I'm seeing so much lies from the west & even Slavs are falling for it. Does not mean I think Russia is good either, but Ukraine is being used by very evil forces, from arming Banderite fascists, conducting bio experiments, that could be used to target anyone in that region & other shady stuff going on. They desperately want a world war & to also make Poland the battleground for some stupid war with Russia, when I have nothing against Russia. They've even admitted that they just want to destroy Russia since they hold so many land and resources so the soulless corporatists can get their hands on it. I've also got Polish roots in me but I kind of ditched the Polish label la while ago and I rather just revert to the Slav label, since it's just causing too much division between the people there.

@SuperExodian2 жыл бұрын
basically true for a lot of eastern europe. it's pretty hard to defend your borders when the best defensive positions are MAYBE having a river. otherwise eastern europe is steppes and then you're easy to conquer by a bigger nation (mongols, russians, poles, etc etc.)

But where is Great Duchy of Lithuania?
@bloodkelp Жыл бұрын
Lithuania is Lithuania, whereas so called "belarus" is actually made-up thing.
@alexey_nieskladovy Жыл бұрын
@@bloodkelp but we don't say that Macedonia of Alexander the Great it is today's Republic of North Macedonia, right? A historical fact, that it was a Greek country, because slavics weren't in Balcans in the times of Alexander the Great. In GDL an official language was old-belarusian. Then he was called as ruthenian or lithuanian. Also, first Princes, as Mindoŭh (Mindaugas) and Hiedzimin (Gediminas), they connected precisely the lands of today's Belarus, because there were big towns, writing and Christianity. In today's Lithuania (then she was called as Samogotia) there were only tribes, paganism and there were no big towns, maybe only Kaunas (then Koŭna) and that was it. Today's Lithuania, i.e. the former Samogotia, as a contry with her official lithuanian, which baltic, not slavic, language was made only in 1919.
@bloodkelp Жыл бұрын
@@alexey_nieskladovy the other way around. Belarus was invented only in 1918. Before 1918, "belarusian" lands were inhabited by poles, lithuanians, ukrainians and russians respectively. Its still not clear by whom and for what purpose they were invented, though. Some say it was made by germans in order to justify breaking russian territorial integrity. Others say it was made by jew bolsheviks. But truth is still unknown
