When I was in my late teens I demonstrated breaking bricks to a few friends. One of my friends thought it looked easy and tried. The result was a broken small metacarpal and a cast for 6 weeks. After his accident I never tried it again, and I still have a mental scar of that accident. It looked really horrible...

Ouch! Hopefully he has had a full recovery, and that no one else has contemplated it since. Thank you for commenting!

Trial by Wood, love that. I love breaking. Super that you guys always have safety in mind. Sign of a great dojo IMHO. Growing up my first instructor was buying concrete for a breaking event. The owner of the place asked him what his project was, so he told him. The guy said "There is no way anyone can break those with his hands, I cooked them in the kiln myself. If you can break one I'll give it all to you free". Sensei said he never hit anything so hard in his life..drove away with a free trailer of concrete!

Haha! What a great story - these are the kind of anecdotes I live for in the comments! I think it says a great deal about my self-esteem that I'm too scared/unwilling to smash wood/concrete/ice. But also, if my hand shatters, I can't do my job, and that's less than ideal. On a completely unrelated note - I was so, so proud of this video, and it has never done well. I'm glad that it is being appreciated so long after I made it :) - Zoe
