I give Broly's backstory some credit. It's actually very good when you think about it. Paragas hated Vegeta for what his father did to them. King Vegeta's fate would be ironic as hell. The side affect is the fact that Broly's psychosis is based on Goku's constant crying shattering his already fragile mind, implanting a sort of trigger to set of his crazy side. It was always my belief that Broly didn't know who Goku was until he 1st met him & match Goku with the crying baby who drove him mad. For the Broly fans out there, he is a cool character that's insanely strong, but with a terribly weak mind. Notice how he grew even more crazy upon his return. I don't see that as a flaw or boring, but quite good when you think about it.

He didn't say it didn't happen, but he thinks it would be unlikely that that's the reason Goku beat him because Goku didn't know where Broly got stabbed. It's likely that Goku did punch him in that same area, because that's what it looked like and it wouldn't matter if Goku knew about where Broly got stabbed or not, but Broly was defeated because Goku powered up and not cause he got punched in the stomach.

Just noticed something. The control device that is on Broly's head is very much like the magical headband worn by Sun Wukong in Journey to the East which Dragon Ball takes it's influence from. The head band was used by the priest Xuanzang to control Wukong much like Paragus used the crown he had made to control his son. So is this connection just a happy coincidence or intentional? It just makes perfect sense to me.

Fun fact. Broly's SSJ form is blue because of the suppressors. You can see this really well in the raging blast games. His alt costume from the second coming movie his head band is broken, so his SSJ form is normal and his LSSJ form his slightly less green.

How can a non cannon character be "impactful"? He had no influence on the main story whatsoever, seriously, Yamcha and Raditz had more impact in the main story. Even if we take his movies into account, his impact in the movie continuity wasn't that great either. He pretty much has the same fate as any movie villain. He shows up, kicks some ass, gets defeated and we never hear of him again. He was "impactful" or more like popular enough to give him two sequel movies, but they all pretty much follow that pattern, the third movie wasn't even the real Broly, just some copy. The way you speak of him one could think that he changed DB history forever and the characters would be afraid of him forever. Yet the only one from the first movie that made it into the second one was Gohn, and Goku for some seconds. In the third movie, even they weren't there anymore and some normally sidecharacters like Goten, Trunks, Krillin, Android 18 and Mr.Satan took care of the spot. If Broly had an impact on one thing, it was the fanbase who to this day either love or hate him, but aside from that, meh.

I still think that Goku's punch wasn't exactly what defeated Broly. In the Japanese dub, Broly says "My ki is rising...overflowing..." and he then proceeds to unleash ki blasts from his entire body. His ki was constantly growing, to the point of being unstable, that's why he had to release it in that scene. When Goku used everyone's energy to deliver the final blow, it tore Broly open, (No, not his scar) and we saw all that green seeping out of him. With that nice new hole in his stomach, there was nothing holding all that ki back, as shown by the cracks forming all over him, and he exploded.....but still survived.

I honestly think that Broly died in the first movie because he quotes "My power is rising, overflowing", and when Goku punched him, my theory is that that punch went through Broly's stomach and because of that he's body couldn't countain the energy and that's why we see Broly start falling to pieces. The reason why broly is so popular to many is like u said, he a tank. Big Hit Movies from the 80s and 90s were movies like blood sport, commando, kiss of the dragon, cyborg, universal soldier, Terminator, Rambo, Rocky....etc. movies with main actor that are in shape & can kick ass. The cool thing about broly was the fact that he was so god damn traumatized by Goku is that vengeance was his only motivation. The hatred went down to such a primal level that he could not be even reasoned with as a regular sentient being, he was almost a beast, a brute, an animal, almost an Ozaru in human body. That was coooooool as fuck, he was the sayian, THE sayian Vegeta would always brag about (you know, the culture revolving his legend). That was an actual story, and a cool one too. I mean, the guy crushed his father inside a capsule , how "evil" is that? PD. Broly would have gotten a bit of a power boost due to zenkai, but not that much. The reasons why he was knocking ssj2 Gohan around (yes he was in SSJ2, there no reason for him to NOT be. There's even a clearly defined moment where he powered up), is because Gohan had gotten WEAKER since the cell games. Adult Gohan's ssj2 form would barely be on par with regular perfect cell, let along Broly, who required the combined power of EVERYONE (including TEEN Gohan) to beat the first time.

I still have a lot of questions:. 1. Why does Broly move so gracefully. I don't think he's ever needed to train but the way he fights and powers up has a certain elegance to it. I guess Paragus could have taught him more disciplined movement while under his control. 2. How smart is broly. I for one think he's a prodigy. He's proven this in terms of fighting ability but while under mine control his speaks very well spoken. While unrestrained his a really good trash talker and has at least common sense. 3. Does he have a tail. He's shown with one in concept art and it could easily hide under his skirt. He has never been show to lose his tail as a child and who would be strong enough to remove it when he's an adult? 4. Can Broly regenerate?... Seriously how can he survive being stabbed in the chest as a kid and being blown up by goku in the second movie.

Why would he even remember that? We was like a few days old back then, no matter how good your memory is, it's very rarely to remeber anything past before you gained cognitive abilities and selfawearness which is at the age of like 1-2. He didn't even see Gokus face back then and his voice has changed a lot since. Even if he somehow linked being stabbed to Gokus crying and got a trauma from it, how did he remember it by just seing Goku? One can like Broly or not, but his reason to hate Goku is one of the most retarded and simpliest reasonings ever. It would have been way more logical for him to hate Vegeta, but Toei somehow had to get his attention on their beloved Goku, so they came up with this bullshit. I can understand Broly hating Goku after he was defated by him, but him hating Goku more than Vegeta in the first movie is just bad writting at its finest.
