Dolly playing Coat of Many Colours was great. Means more when they write the song and just sing it by themselves with just a guitar.

I really enjoyed the series here on KZbin. Country music is so diverse, with so many stories to tell. We got all the way to this 15th part before they found a spot to fit John Prine---about the finest songwriter around---into the story. Thanks for posting.

It's absolutely criminal that Gail Davies didn't have a bigger career than she had. The song she sings here is absolutely gorgeous.

Love Dolly! She and Porter were the first country concert I went to with my parents. Awesome!

What surprises me about these “History of Country Music” documentaries is that there is NEVER (and I mean never!) any mention of the contribution of Crystal Gayle, who kicked the doors wide open for Country to cross over into Pop (or Adult Contemporary, as it’s called today) music back in the late 70’s...and she did it with CLASS! “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue” was played on ALL the major Rock radio stations back then (like WLS in Chicago), as well as Country radio. Crystal’s voice was mix of Country, R&B, Folk & old standards that raised the bar considerably for female Country vocalists, and for that alone she should get credit.

I am, as a rule, a non-country fan. However, I have always been and I shall always be an enormous Dolly Parton fan. I used to watch her show a lot as a kid. And I always loved her voice. So beautiful.

The legends we never got to see: Marty Robins, Jerry Read, Waylon Jennings, Roy Clark, Glen Campbell, Charlie Pride. This series was a bit short and not 100% accurate but very entertaining.

Gail Davies was (and still is!) one of the most TALENTED singer/songwriters to ever grace a Country Music stage...and that also goes for the multi-talented Roseanne Cash! Anyone who says otherwise, simply doesn’t know what they’re talking about, or doesn’t fully understand the history of Country Music. ‘Enuff said!

Please tell me the only glimpse of Vince Gill in this doc wasn’t as Roseanne Cash’s background singer.

Kitty Wells, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, Dolly Parton, Rosanne Cash? Where is Reba McEntire?? She was the next big female artist after Dolly.
