Would be an interesting quest opportunity to start with a non-noble genie as a patron and at some point you have to help him gain power to continue leveling up. Id love some elemental intrigue.

I rolled a female warlock “desert elf” based on the look of Leetah from elf quest. I made her a dancer/ entertainer. Her patron is a lady effreeti lord. I love this type of patron for warlock.
@krispalermo81333 жыл бұрын
3.5e, .. CR system in regards to would be desert animals. Red wolf/ American coyote or African jackal follow by wild boar and mountain lion, Rayek would be a multiclass 12th-level character, .. ranger something level and Psionic hand book Psion/ Psychic warrior. Maybe a few levels of rogue. Favorite enemy jackals after getting his arm maul for a few centuries before Leetah was born. Ran many games where Elf Quest elves being halflings and trolls being dwarves. My major hang up when I first started reading the graphic novels back in the late 1980's, the start of the second novel humans travel up to Sorrows End on a pony, by the time humans were traveling on ponies, we were already scouting locations for ... wine. And there is Cactus Juice, and trading of smoke shell fish. But as it stated in the opening statement in regards to the story, the World of Two Moons is not Earth. AD&D2ndE, a peasant farmer or a starting PC begin the game as a farmer militia member just killing/ clearing out giant insects & rats out of fields and the barn will be a 2nd-level fighter or a 3rd-level rogue" scout." In 3.5E, a commoner spending five to seven years doing the same thing will reach 7th-level single class commoner by the time they were 24 years old and be a parent at that point. Or a sorcerer able to cast Plant Growth subconscious without really being aware of their power. The reason I put Rayek at 12th-level is cause he actively hunted predators outside the village " and a few centuries old.". Now if you factor in 3rdE DMG option on training for skills & feats to Star Wars soldier class compare to real life training of military personal. A PC just by training time alone without factoring XP award will earn/ gain two to three levels per years. At best or lest Cutter would be at 7th or 8th-level character at the time he met Rayek. Rogue/ranger/fighter and showing having Spring Attack when drop on troll's snow mountain just before getting stab in the gut. As for Leetah class level bard 4th, cure light wounds or a psion/bard and crafted a psionic item to boost healing " her bracelets," then factor in her aim with a throwing knife in killing scorpions. Most of my game shop Elf Quest games fifth teen years ago played humans as comic relief, stone age coastal humans trading smoke shell fish, smoke fish, and wines for other wines, cactus juice, and animal furs. Just remember, the Go Backs ate trolls .. so .. humans are on the menu. It was mention Bear Claw had low morals in regards to getting drunk with the trolls during trade gabbling, who to say Bear Claw didn't have drinking buddies with pony nomad herders and still got the forest burn by the local human tribe ? Base a campaign around psionic power stone age items over divine/ arcane steel items.

@@krispalermo8133 good thinking on the elf quest characters and what classes they would be. I just wanted to use her look 😊I also liked the look of moonshade, shen-shen, ember, nightfall, and Venka for future character looks. Maybe winowill also. Lots of of cool looking elves to make characters of 😊

The DM's Guild Adept product Xanathar's Lost Notes to Everything Else has a Noble Genie Warlock that was based of the Sha'Ir that even has a Gen servant and spell fetching feature, it was released in 2017 but I think its still a great product with a lot of options.

In response to the Service level up mechanic, I think the 3rd party Grim-Hollow Campaign has a mechanic similar to that in response to the Vile Transformation mechanics that work like milestone leveling at the DM's discretion. Another thing you could have done, and I've seen this on a DnD stream called Nat19, is have the patron give the Warlock certain milestone goals such as a list of tasks, and each time they complete a task, they receive a reward. These could range from minor (such as learning a new spell/Invocation in addition to your ones already known) to major such as additional spell slots (with a caveat that they are once per long-rest slots instead of short rest)

This genie pact makes the most sense for creating a warlock. I mean, it is not edgy as hell. Genies are greedy creatures, and granting a mortal a few spells in return for recieving gems, or magical treasure seems like a good business.
@krispalermo81333 жыл бұрын
AD&D2ndE and 3.5e spell Wish stated to provide a .. limited .. amount of gold treasure or magic items base on gp/Xp value, .. so .. If you could make contact with a noble genie or fire genie and pay 3x the stander treasure which a Wish could provide, then a PC could buy a Wish off of a given genie. This is away a wizard/ sorcerer could up their ability score to cast more powerful magic in the long term till they could cast Wish on their own. One time I started up a game where every one was part of a lesser noble house hold with a skill craft specialty, and after a few epic level games I let them find out they were fire genie and they were in a contest to find the best human .. pet.

I like to explain mechanical differences between additions as like refinements in the art of spellcraft or changes to how magic flows from the weave. Maybe the process of a genie familiar brining magic to a Sha'ir has just been refined and streamlined as the bond between the prime and the elemental planes has strengthened
@JustinTotino3 жыл бұрын
I agree and this is how I've viewed it as well. Magic, at least in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting, is a science that can be expanded on and perfected. So it makes sense that as each edition goes on that magic became simpler (using the word loosely) became easier to use. It's also a good way to explain why bards are a default class when they used to take a lot of effort to become, or why even fighters can now use magic if they wanted to.
@StateBlaze19893 жыл бұрын
So I'm pretty new to DnD. Only know a bit about 5e. But from what I've seen of official released adventure modules, all but one stay in Faerun, with one taking place over in Chult. Is there a reason fifth edition pretty much ignores the rest of the world of Toril? There is so much lore and so many great settings to places adventures into that it amazes me how little any of the source books or adventures I've found even mention any country or continent outside of the Sword Coast. Hell, I had to search up a dnd wiki just to finish a character's backstory because they came from the island nation of Lantan, and fifth edition treats that place like it doesn't exist even though it's the main supplier of firearms in the Sword Coast.
@Jorphdan3 жыл бұрын
There is no word from Wizards of the Coast on why they ignore the rest of the Forgotten Realms. I personally believe they wanted the brand to be more recognizable by using smaller regions recognized from books and video games.

Gens can be used by using the Imp stat block, giving different alignment, movement, and powers by elemental type. Example an air gen would be Neutral (Good tendency), Flight, and shocking grasp as an attack. Also, Tasha's gives new Invocations that mod pact items so I suggest Spell Fetching as a Warlock Invocation that allows a Familiar to, during the period of a short or long rest, go a fetch a spell of a level that the warlock can cast though from *any* spell list. The spell is "stored" by the familiar's spirit and can be cast as an bonus spell by the Warlock but if the familiar is killed before it is cast, the spell is lost. The chance of fetching is a base DC on the Warlock's Arcana skill check (the Difficulty would be 10 + level of the spell + 5 for a Cleric/Druid/Paladin spell). In the case of a roll of 1 on any DC 20 or greater (DMs if so chooses) something follows the familiar home who is annoyed at the Warlock's request and might attack the Warlock or demand some sort of bargain (again covered in Tasha's chapter 4 "Parlaying with Monsters) over the Warlock's request. Also from the 2nd ed Shi'ar's Handbook that can find a home in 5ed is the Spellweaver mage and Clockwork mage which can be re-worked as Artificers. Spellweavers are mages who specialize in making magical cloth and can manufacture magical robes, bags of holding, etc. In our campaign the Spellweaver can weave spells into his clothing, making his robe into a set of wearable scrolls that recharge after a long rest and can later on gain abilities like pockets that the artificer can cause to act as mini-bags of holding or give the robe resistance to damage types (immunity at 15th level). The artificer can at 5th level create a rug that can be, at the will of the artificer, either a 1 man flying carpet or a rug of smothering. The Clockwork artificer gains the ability to make mechanical golem, starting off with small sized mechanical beasts (animal stat block but add construct and immune to poison, disease, psychic, and necrotic damage) that gains two skills (Stealth, Athletics, Perception, or Thieving Tools) and one magical attack (d6 damage Poison, Shock, Fire, Piercing or Blunt). He gains additional mechanical pets of increasing size and can spend money to increase their AC, skills, or damage by upgrading their shells and power cores. At 15th level he can build an iron golem that smarter that the usual manual golems because it can follow his commands; it also can be moded out with different attack types (fireball instead of poison gas for example), added skills, and increased AC by investing into a mithral or adamantium shell over time.

@@Jorphdan The backstory I have so far is: The son of a Sha’ir from the land of fate called Zakhara and his Gen, a djinni bound within a lamp. His father had immigrated into the desert kingdom of Calimshan but fell ill on the journey, resulting in Gale being orphaned in a strange land with no one looking out for him as his mother had given up her physical form in the process of siring a child. Thus he grew up as a street rat while holding onto a crystal orb that contained his mother’s essence in the form of moving smoke. When he reached the age of adulthood, his mother had regained enough strength to reach out with him and thus formed a contract. In his homeland this would make him a Sha’ir, but in this place such pacts were considered that of Warlocks and so he is recognized as such.
