The history of Khom Script can be traced back to 6,657 years

Note: Muang can mean a city, capital or center city which was the center of government, city-state, kingdom, depending on what the context is.
When delving deeply into ancient history of settlement, Tai-Lawa people had settled and continued living in the central, northeastern, and southern parts of present-day Thailand for over 8,000 years according to Ka Buang Jaan inscriptions which have evidence traced back to their origin. They developed themselves from living in caves into living in small houses, bigger houses, communities, small towns, big cities, city-states, and kingdoms.
After the Tai-Lawa ruler of Muang Paen named "Khun In Khao Khiao" had married Nang Kwak Thong Ma, he established a new era by designating the year he and Nang Kwak Thong Ma got married as "In Era" 1, which was considered the first time that Tai era was coined to be used. In addition, he changed the name "Muang Paen" to "Muang Maen" in this year, hence Muang Maen was started in the In Era 1.
In the In Era 1250 (6,657 years ago) Khun “Khom Fah Tai” invented Tai script and named it “Khom Script” after his name. The Script was first invented to be used in recording the birth dates of their children, and other important events, yet later the Khom Script was reinvented to be used in all public administration. For example, the king’s royal orders were written in the Khom Script and people under the rule must have accepted and acted accordingly. In the same way, the teachings issued by great teachers were also written in the Khom Script and their disciples must have obeyed and followed accordingly. This custom was set over 6,600 years.
When Khun Tawan Taab Fah Atiraj, the king of Suvarnabhumi Kingdom was requested by King Pee Rook Raja, a son of King Ashoke the Great, the king of Maurya Empire, to help suppress many city-states and kingdoms in India. Khun Tawan Taab Fah Atiraj marched his army along with Buddhist monks who were knowledgeable about the Buddha’s teachings and Khom (knowledgeable officials) who were knowledgeable about the Khom Script to Muang Pataliputra, the capital of Maurya Empire. Khun Tawan Taab Fah Athiraj and his army spent many years in India for this mission.
When the mission of suppressing many city-states and kingdoms had completed, King Pee Rook Raja asked the Tai-Lawa Khom (knowledgeable officials) including Khom "Pan”, Khom "Chim" and Khom "Sai" to teach the Khom Script to Buddhist monks, novices and common people in all classes of Maurya Empire by giving houses and wives to them in return. King Pee Rook Raja said that although women in the Brahman class of Maurya Empire were considered to be in the highest class in India, Tai-Lawa men of Suvarnabhumi Kingdom were also considered in the highest class, thus, they can marry women in the Brahman class.
The Khom Script had spread over central and southern India ever since by the name of the team chief, namely “Pan”, followed by “Lawa”, his ethnic, becoming “Panlawa”. Afterwards, the Panlawa script was found all over southern India and all territories in Southeast Asia by western historians, yet they called it “Pallava” and claimed that it was named after the Pallava dynasty. Thai historians adhering to the western historians also called it “Pallava” despite the fact that their ancestors have invented the Khom Script for 6,657 years.
The Khom Script had not only spread over central and southern India but also appeared on castles of Maya and Inca Empires.
“Sak Yant” or “Magically Tattooing”, the unique Thai culture that has been around for thousands of years, required the use of Khom Script to make it powerfully magical.
