I think it's safe to say that 1.9 was one of (if not) the most iconic update, and also the most controversial. It forever split the community into 2 halves. There were people that liked the new updates better then the "sweaty" old combat, sticking to modern updates. On the other hand, There was one side that loved the old combat better, switching to servers that supported 1.7.10 through 1.8.9.

Still remember playing CTF on MCPvP then the closed beta of MineZ where you had to donate to get in. Overcast or Project Ares was so much fun as well, still remember everyone being pissy when you "targeted" them. I remember my friend who was a 1.16 nerd said 1.9+ pvp is more fun, then I played some casual private bw duels and decided to limit my cps to 10 so he woudnt get mad and so he can get better and after like 10 minutes he started to tell me how 1.9 is actually a lot less fun because its very slow pace and is very reliant on a single meta while 1.8.9 has many metas and different ways at going at the game (for instance im a rod pvper while my friend like snow balls, and my friend dislikes speed while i like speed) also n e r f a x e pvp 1.9+

1.16 is pretty fast paced and you can say that swords are better than axes Understand it as stone papper scissors. Swords do more dps but shields can cover swords axes do less dps but sheilds cannot help to protect against axes and with the edition of crossbow you can show of some serious skills Like zigzag Leftright left There is somany type of combat

MCPVP CTF still exists very similar to how it was years ago and there is a small but dedicated community on there. It's a great pvp gamemode, i'd honestly recommend people check it out

It's worth noting that 1.12 is no longer pretty much the highest version for modded Minecraft. I don't know whether it's the changes Mojang have been supposedly making to make the game more easily moddable or just boredom due to the lockdowns that've been happening everywhere, but Minecraft modding has, miraculously, for the first time in years, caught up with the latest vanilla Minecraft version.

The new combat system looks very different from 1.8 which is why I don't think most severs will switch. if you spend a lot of time getting good at a combat system like it means you really like that combat system, and might not be interested in many others. Me for example, I love 1.8 combat so even if new combat is really good I'll only switch if it is an improved 1.8 because I'm not really interested in any other combat.

Great video. I did want to say that you completely skipped over or perhaps don't know about the quite small but interesting 1.9+ "Meta" PvP community, who take use of end crystals and respawn anchors as weapons. I think a video on this community would be really cool, although there may not be enough content for a video. And no, they don't use hacks. 2b2t isn't the only place where end crystals are relevant weapons.
