This is amazing! I just adore NSMBW but I'm not super familiar with its speedrunning scene, it was really great to get to learn about it like this. Seeing the Penguin Suit in a few clips of other levels caught my interest too - I didn't know it had utility in speedrunning, especially on non-slippery surfaces. Neat!

Great vid, was really nostalgic seeing all those screenshots from back then. For those who don't know why it took me so long to get 5-T, I tried Astix's method for about 10-15 hours with no success (don't think anyone else has even got it by now) and then gave up for a while. Eventually I discovered instant lands were RTA viable and quickly found a much more consistent method which allowed me to get the record without too much effort. I must admit Pidgey kinda flexed on me though...

In the any percent run, I’m pretty sure they rerouted the 5th world from 5-2 to 5-3 in WR runs since the level is barely shorter than the 5-2. It is a small detail for retiming both levels, but to be honest the time save is just not worth it sometimes. Anyways this is an awesome video of how fast the 5-tower IL’s.

534? Wow something happened in a few years when I've been away. And 548 by TAS?? It's really interesting to see people talk about frames in a game played by a Wii Remote haha. Also for anyone who knows a bit about TAS, has anyone tried to create an AI to find new strategies in levels? It could be a huge thing if we knew how to give the map and everything as inputs for the neural network. Anyways, great video Pidgey!

Qr1pt1k tried doing that for a bit, but it's not really feasible at the moment. Unfortunately AI isn't very good at finding new strategies... Scattershot has been used in Super Mario 64, or Radeline in Celeste, for brute forcing a bunch of different input combinations based on current TASes in order to optimize preexisting movement, but that's about it so far.
