CORRECTIONS: - Apparently, there have been several Taiko maps to make it to the popular beatmap tab after Capu's map. I didn't know about them simply because there isn't an archive of that that I could lookup. I'll research this further.

Interesting video, I'll leave this com as a bookmark (will complete it later). 3:10 Luigi did even more things for a game: he invanted 1st legacy Beatmap Packs and Fanart Contest, but thie most important - he is thought as a Deflaut skin designer (and that's why he have Resident Skinner title). 3:33 Believe it or not, but that's estimated origin of 4-key Input Overlay and possibility of using keyboard and mouse imputs in the same time in Standard - it HAS TO be possible, because Taiko was mod at a beginning. 3:52 It happend in past from time to time, and weirdly - very often with Kharl mapsets. The most (in)famous example here is his Standard Sakura Kagetsu mapset, that got its current max diff [Pasonia's Insane] half a year after becoming Ranked. (And yes, that's this map that WWW later FC'ed for one of 1st 600 play in Standard mode).

Wow, that was hella interesting to watch. I was a player during the old days of the taiko era and pretty much erased myself from the community in mid-2015, didn't know there was still load of stuff happening after my departure. I greatly appreciate the emphasis on preservation of the history of that mode as well as the notable people who worked to make it better, this is more important than we might think.

I recognize the Obra Dinn soundtrack, truly a fellow man of culture. On another note, would also love to see the history on how the SR and the community's discovery of the SR's shortcomings affected mapping and ranked maps along the years.

Overall, it is a pretty good video. I just expected something more related to how map ideas have changed like pishifat's videos rather than a 20 minutes long story of BAT and QAt and NAT. Never got in touch with members of the taiko community and I still remember how applres was the best player until he isn't. Time has flied lol.

The history of the mode itself and the people involved are precisely the underlying flow on how the style shifts. Comparing with other modes taiko is even more complicated due to huge influence from community active inside osu but stayed away from the ranking part. Much of such information isn't trackable anymore.

@@OnosakiHito Back in the days NatsumeRin regularly draws me to MP room to practice actual taiko gameplay :P He always start with the original Kokoro because there is a 1/8 5-plet in it lol

agree, this was more a list of official changes taiko went through rather than a history of mapping itself. he focused a lot on people and not the actual maps being made which didnt help w understanding the meta or vibe during that time

it kinda came as a shock to me how uninvolved and irrelevant japanese players are throughout osu!taiko's development, considering the game originated directly from japan and a staple in the otoge scene there

osu!taiko has a large japanese playerbase as well, with like 2/3 of top players being japanese lol. however the mapping community is its own separate thing. the mapping community is and always has been dominantly english-speaking. most people in japan don't learn enough english in school to be able to comfortably communicate in english afaik, so they have a hard time getting involved in the mapping community. out of the 30ish nominators right now, only 3 speak japanese.
