It seems to me that the ancients used both physical therapy and medicine; it is safe to say that medicine and physical therapy came from the same root. They diverge in the modern times. PT is unique than medicine because they don't incorporate pharmacological or surgical interventions but otherwise, everything else are within its purview using light, sound, heat, cold, exercise, manual therapy, education, orthotics/prosthetics, etc.
