It always makes me laugh how passionate some folks get about Poison’s gender. For Capcom it’s all money though because it made her into a fan favorite and with them being a little bit vague about it fans can see her how they want to. For people that prefer to think of her as a biological female they can and for those who prefer to see her as a trans icon they can too. Hentai artists have already proven she can be whatever fans need her to be and that’s the real magic.
@DarDarBinks19863 жыл бұрын
Please don't use "biological" when you really mean "cisgender". We trans women are biological, too. We're just misidentified at birth. "Biological sex" is far more complicated than what high school biology classes make it out to be. Gender dysphoria is a medical condition that scientists and doctors have known about for over a century. People can be born with chromosome combinations other than XY and XX (Klinefelter syndrome (XXY), Turner syndrome (X0), XXYY syndrome). People with XY or XX chromosomes can be born intersex depending on how the SRY gene activates during the embryonic stage of development (i.e., Swyer syndrome, De La Chappelle syndrome). A trans person's brain behaves like their identified gender instead of their assigned sex even before receiving hormone replacement therapy. Genetics plays a role in transness, too; a twin is more likely to be trans if their twin is trans.

Oh, so Poison really is trans, it was just "covered up", because it's too "controversial for us "western audiences". Now it makes sense. It'd be interesting if Roxy was included in games as a playable character too. All they'd have to really do to make her different is arm her with a riding crop and give her Poison's moves from SF4 (with a few alterations). P.S. Lore is important in fighting games, because it's what draws us to the game, & makes us interested in the characters. However, after a certain amount of time, it doesn't become that important, because we basically know the characters & the general concept of their quests. So at that point, it becomes more about playing with the character than anything else.
@DarDarBinks19863 жыл бұрын
Trans erasure strikes again. Capcom should have just come out and stated that Poison was trans right from the beginning, even made her a playable character. Representation matters. Fuck the whole "too controversial for Western audiences" bit. Hell, we trans and nonbinary people have existed worldwide as long as people at large have existed. All over the world, there have been people who've lived as genders different from their assigned sex and in many cultures, nobody batted an eye. There've been whole communities of us trans and nonbinary people, in fact. Examples of such people include the kathoeys of Thailand; the hijras of the Indian subcontinent; the baklas of the Philippines; the yinyang ren of China; the koekchuch among the Itelmens of Russia (specifically Siberia); the akava'ines among the Cook Islands Maori of New Zealand; the māhūs of Hawaii, the fa'afafine of Samoa; the ashtime among the Maale people of Ethiopia; the muxe among the Zapotec people of Mexico; various trans and nonbinary identities collectively known as two-spirits among tribal Amerindians in the U.S. and Canada; the femminielli of southern Italy; the Gala priestly class among the ancient Sumerians; the Galli of ancient Rome; the five-gender system among the Bugis people of Indonesia; the sworn virgins of Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Montenegro; the androgynos, ay'lonit, tumtum, and saris recorded in old Jewish texts; the mukhannathun of the Arab world (recorded in Islamic texts); the fakaleitis of Tonga; and the enarees among the ancient Scythians. As for notable individual trans and nonbinary people throughout history, examples include: -Elagabalus, Roman empress who reigned from 218 to 222 C.E. She insisted on being addressed as "Lady" instead of "Lord" and put out a ransom for any doctor who could perform sex reassignment surgery on her. Historians still misgender her today. -Marinos the Monk, Eastern Roman "Byzantine" Christian monk and trans man. -Chevalier d'Éon, French soldier, spy, diplomat, freemason, fencer, and veteran of the Seven Years War. She transitioned at the age of 49 and lived the remaining 33 years of her life as a woman during the 18th century. -Public Universal Friend, American preacher who came out and lived as nonbinary during the 18th and early 19th centuries. They shunned gendered clothing, names, and pronouns. -James Barry, British military surgeon and trans man who lived during the 19th century. -Albert Cashier, Irish-American trans man who fought in the American Civil War (on the side of the North). -Harry Allen, American trans man who was the subject of sensationalistic newspaper headlines about his string of petty crimes in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. -Lili Elbe, Danish painter. She transitioned with the help of Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld, who ran one of the first dedicated medical facilities for transgender patients in the early 20th century. In 1930, she became the first trans woman to undergo vaginoplasty. -Karl M. Baer, German trans man who underwent reconstructive surgery (the details of which are unknown) in 1906 and was legally recognized as male in Germany in 1907. -Dr. Alan Hart, American radiologist who pioneered the use of x-ray photography in detecting tuberculosis. In 1917, he was the first trans man in the U.S. to undergo hysterectomy and gonadectomy. -Dr. Michael Dillon, British physician who updated his birth certificate to male in the early 1940s and became the first trans man to undergo phalloplasty in 1946. -Wilmer "Little Ax" Broadnax, American gospel quartet singer who performed in the early 20th century. -Christine Jorgensen, American World War II bomber pilot and trans woman who transitioned with the help of Dr. Harry Benjamin, an endocrinologist and early advocate for trans people. Her vaginoplasty in 1952 attracted attention from the medical community. -Sir Lady Java, American transgender activist, actress, singer, exotic dancer, and comedian. With the aid of the ACLU, she was instrumental in getting Los Angeles ordinance Rule No. 9, which forbade cross-dressing, struck down in the late 1960s. Her 1967 case didn't strike Rule No. 9 down on its own but it was used as precedent in a separate dispute in 1969. She retired in the 1980s and has mostly kept a low profile since then.

They should've already changed her to Roxy. Fighting games do this quite often, it makes no sense a dedicated craft like a martial art is suddenly different, so they'd make it a sister or disciple or something who has their own path if they want to make signifacnt changes for the sake of gameplay balancing. @RPGeenius3 жыл бұрын
It's not so strange when you understand what was happening in the gaming scene in America at the time. Congress was clamoring for gaming regulations and threatening to rate games themselves if gaming companies couldn't do it themselves. Thus the ESRB was born. The Sega game 'night trap' was used as an example of violence towards women as well as mortal kombat. So capcom changed poison to Male on SNES home consoles which parents would see there children play. But the arcade version remained female. I owned the SNES version and got the point. But for me, if the creator says she's female then no one else can trump him. That second guy just made things more confusing after the creator went out of his way to clear things up.
@sboinkthelegday38922 жыл бұрын
A company doesn't do these decisions character by character, they do it release by release. They didn't "change" an existing character, they just declared the roster would be something with no violence protections, like robots, aliens, or human males, and slapped the characters they had on top of it. I think If you pay close attention, you'll notice she empirically seems to be a woman. Unless one is blind or mentally impaired, she simply appears to be a girl. She does not seem to be a male at all. And I say that on the basis of female anatomy. One example easily noticed is her hips. There is simply no way a male could have hips that large relative to his shoulder frame. Women's hips are naturally larger to support childbirth. Another example is her breasts. One could even point to her voice, among other things. Realistically speaking, It would be rather impossible for a man to have those features unless they were taking estrogen hormone injections since they were a child. And it has never been implied or stated anywhere that Poison did that. So... I think she is indeed a woman.
@pollymars37762 жыл бұрын
You want to talk about intellectual disability. Look at yourself and reflect! If you're debating about a FICTIONAL character it just seems rather mindless and absurd to apply REAL. WORLD. SCIENCE. Reality Check! The reason Poison looks like a female and has the physical characteristics as one is because she was DESIGNED that way. You intellectually, bankrupt, mindless, twit! But no way does that indicate Poison is a biological female. But FYI, Poison is trans and was created that way from the beginning. Get over it, Karen
@marionhope7506 Жыл бұрын
You can think she’s a woman all you want. But the fact is, Poison was designated as “newhalf” (trans) in the original Japanese game’s concept art_ That’s a FACT, you can read/see for yourself! Whether you, or me like it, Poison is transgender DEAL WITH IT, friend.😌
@jared5200 Жыл бұрын
@@marionhope7506 And your free to think she's transgender all you want. But I'm not willing to disregard basic human anatomy here. Capcom has given the implication that she's female from her design and proportions, and that's enough for me to assume she is.

@jared520011 ай бұрын
@@aniiii_wxs Poison is not trans, and was never intended to be trans originally. They needed to somehow censor the North American version of the game she debuted in because pile driving a woman through a telephone pole would have been considered bad, and violence against women. So they claimed she was trans in order to avoid that sort of criticism. It was simply a way to censor the original. Originally poison was designed as a cisgender woman, so canonically Poison is not trans. Trans was simply used as a way to censor it for that market. And since then, Capcom has left it rather ambiguous when asked about her gender, and has never confirmed her as trans when asked about this.

@@Felhate I believe Chun-li was suppose to have a win quote about Poison hitting like a man. I think it was removed. I believe at least one other character was going to say something similar.
@wingbeck45633 жыл бұрын
@@Felhate Both Ryu and Chun-Li had scrapped quotes that pointed to Poison being a man it was scrapped cause it look like a mockery to the LGBT community but Ryu and Chun-Li quotes to Poison were "I'll be careful not to fall into your trap." Chun-Li then said, "You're not very lady-like at all! Chun-Li had another quote saying Poison looks are deceiving.
So if I'm understanding correctly. Because they omitted the quotes this would canonically make her female from birth. So then it would make since that the creator would say she's female. What id like to know is were these quotes in the Japanese version of the game and if so, were they removed. Because if it was never a quote in Japan then she's female. Interestingly I also collect the manga and I never got any hint of her being trans. In fact it was always people here in the west who would say that. That's why I've always been interested in what the Japanese say about poison because my experience with Japanese games, anime e.t.c is that if someone is trans they let you know in their speech and mannerisms. You NEVER have to guess. And the fact of the matter is. If you've played games with her in it any thought of her being trans came from other players, not the game itself. I think that's why they removed the quotes. Because the creator has decided she's female.

Poison's gender is female. She presents as female, identifies as female, she lives her whole life as female, she uses her feminine appearance to get a psychological advantage, she's female. Whether she was born female or transitioned at some point is what's up for debate, but she's a woman as much as anyone else who puts that much effort into being and feeling female. I find Poison and Roxy to be endearing examples of character design as they incorporate a lot of 80's style with the jean shorts and narrow top, the hat and other accessories are nice as well. The flowing and bright-colored hair adds a certain image to them of taking pride in their appearance as well, since washing that much hair must take at LEAST an entire bottle of shampoo each time they wash their hair, not even mentioning the brushing and styling they must have to put up with, and that's not even counting the amount of hair dye they go through (Roxy might not need to dye her hair if that bright orange-blonde is her natural color, but Poison obviously has to dye her hair hot pink since that's not a natural hair color).
