Back in the day, we bought two games for our Game Gear- Shinobi II: The Silent Fury and Mortal Kombat. We thought Mortal Kombat was going to be the better game, but Shinobi II: The Silent Fury turned out to be superior. Shinobi II: The Silent Fury is an awesome game and I highly recommend it. As for the Sega Genesis, I can easily agree 100% that Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master is one of the best games on the console. It's what I would call a "perfect" Sega Genesis game. Adjustable difficulty, tight controls, pushed graphics and that amazing soundtrack. PatmanQC nailed it with this review.

This is a great history lesson. I was introduced to Shinobi decades ago on the Spectrum. I never realised that version was ported to the MSX. I had Revenge of Shinobi for Megadrive and a local arcade had Shadow Dancer which I loved. I was always puzzled as to why the master system version was based on the arcade but the megadrive version was completely different. Great work, keep it up!

@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries Apparantly it had been in development for a long time. The guy also has more levels completed, but never released to the public. Sega should just pay this guy to complete the game, then release the cartridge with some special collector items like a t-shirt, posert, etc. I really think that at some point big companies will start releasing new games on old formats like cartridges. We're not there quite yet, but it will happen, or at least that's what I like to think

I have to say Shinobi X from what I've seen looks like a very underrated game that deserves more praise. This isn't quite the complete history however as you forgot to mention not just the computer ports of Shadow Dancer but the Master System version which is supposed to be closer to the arcade game than the MD version. So I guess there's room for a update to this video? 😁

I beat the original Shinobi on PS2 and the final levels are a nightmare. The final castle has almost no floors, and you are forced to jump from wall to wall and dash from enemy to enemy to advance. One mistake and it's instant death.

cool to see the 3DS get some shine on here. I loved the 3DS game once I got the mechanics down. Question Patman: will you ever revisit Outrun? I ask because one of my favorite games on the Genesis was Outrun 2019. I'd love to hear your thoughts on that one.

Hold on a second there. Joe Musashi never appeared in Wreck-It Ralph. Looks like some random ninja from some unknown game. Musashi was many things, but video game villain isn't one of them. Other than that, well done on the retrospective. You think you can do Ninja Gaiden next? That would be awesome.
