Yeah Taito is sort of like Data East in that they are behind dozens of great games but often get unmentioned or overshadowed compared to Capcom, Sega, and Namco. I love them but I'm even guilty of forgetting about them unless I'm having a discussion about Darius or Rastan lol
@Unquestionable

@@thedrunkmonkshow very true. In the 80s and early 90s both companies put out some absolute classics. Even some of the more obscure games are excellent when you stumble across them. The last few years have been kind to old releases, been wanting Elevator Action Returns to be rereleased and thankfully got my wish last year.

The Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo was why I wanted to play the game. I was very young. I was 5 when the 300ZXTT went on sale and I instantly wanted one. I lost interest years later, but I will never forget how much the 300ZXTT influenced me. Years later, I got to download a ROM. However, it just wasn't the same. When I was 14, I read an issue of Sport Compact Car, where they showed how to get 450 horsepower out of one. I learned what a mass air sensor was and quickly knew I could work on modern cars. I also learned what a Nissan R34 GTR and some rally cars were before American gamers did. The screams of people like me are why you could buy a Subaru WRX, Mitsubishi Evo, or Nissan GT-R in the USA.

This is one of those games where I've heard of the name Chase HQ but for whatever reason I hardly saw it in arcades as a kid. But for there to be this many ports the game must have been really popular. I think I have the arcade version of Chase HQ and SCI in one of the Taito Legends game for PS2 and will give it a shot soon. One game that's unrelated that I used to like a lot when I first discovered it in my early 20s in a Dreamcast emulator rom collection was Battle Outrun for the Master System that was released in the UK from what I understand. Now I see how that game borrows heavily from Chase HQ since that game has the same setup of racing against the clock and crashing into criminals until their vehicles stop. Except in that game after each halfway point of the level you can pull into the trailer of a truck which doubles as a shop allowing you to customize which parts of the car you want to upgrade and depending on those upgrades will help you catch the bosses easier. It gave it a bit of replay value and strategy because if you purchased the wrong upgrade where you don't cause enough damage or you aren't fast enough then you will run out of time losing the game. 😃

The voice acting in these games always cracked me up. It almost sounds like somebody who doesn't speak English as a first language ( most likely Japanese) attempting an American accent. I loved the car games too growing up in the 80s but I never cared for how cruel the timers were because they barely gave you enough to get anywhere. That's why I never cared for original Outrun because I was lucky if I got past three stages. Turbo Outrun at least gave you the option of upgrading your car

Thank you very much for the video, it was very informative. If I may be just a tiny bit nitpicky, there is sort of one game you forgot to mention - Chase Bombers. In this game, you may select Tony Gibson and Nancy teamed up in a police car. I may also add that I have the Saturn collection of Chase HQ and SCi, and unfortunately I must agree the control is rather poor. The problem is, at least in my version that SCI suddenly speeds up to almost double speed, specially during the final stage, making it close to impossible to react to the curves - you basically need to know in advance where exactly to start turning the wheel, and how much. Slightest mistake, and you wont make it. I've done that stage over 100 times, and only succeeded twice.

Some of the speech and the arresting scenes. That take the mick out of the two, (tough) cops being gay. Like, 'let's go Mr Driver', Woooh, and Please, push it more', and the 'Ohh Man'. Then the arresting scenes, at stage 3. When one cop is looking right in the criminals arse. Feeling him up at little too much as well. Stage 4, is great. Looks like the cop has em' put it in the criminal. Maybe it's a piss take out of American police, by the the Japanese. It's really silly, but horribly funny, lol.
