I did not know that, I thought brotherhood of arms was refined into TFC, and then TF2 was made after. At least when I researched it, that's what I read

@@stellarr1 The initial TF2 was announced not that long after TFC release. At first, it was supposed to be released in 2000 as "TF2:Brotherhod of Arms", with the previews shpwn in your video. These were even presented as such at E3 2000. All TFC players were super hyped back in the days. But this project fell into limbo and no one heard from it for years, until Valve suddenly announced TF2 as we know it.

The TF team were making a stand alone game called Team Fortress 2 when they were contacted by Valve to make a port of Team Fortress in the Half-Life 1 engine (Which at the time was not called GoldSrc and actually had no official name in house). When the TF team was brought over to Valve, they were tasked with making Team Fortress, but knowing that they were already in the process of making Team Fortress 2, decided to call this remake Team Fortress: Classic. I presume this is because they thought theyd have their version of TF2 finished quickly, which history shows is certainly not the case LOL

The TFC models shown here are the second generation of models (post TFC 1.5). In the early (first year and a half) days of TFC, older models were used, as well as a wat old menu system (Half-Life 1.0 like)

Kind of a shame Valve ditched the OG TFC models from the TF2 lore, i like to think those were the 2nd gen of mercs from 1890 to early 1900's while the mercs from 1930 (the actual TFC models) were the 3rd gen and the TF2 mercs from the late 60's and early 70's are the 4th gen all according to the 1st gen of mercs wich were from 1850.

Anytime someone mentions team fortress, I immediately envision the classic soldier mode with the beret. So much time I spent playing it as an adolescent. There were so many different maps and game types used back then. Now it’s mostly just 2fort, not that it’s a bad thing. Seems like spy doesn’t work anymore, everyone is just too canny

I love your content and all man, But as sombody who plays TFC for hours a day This video sucked. You failed to go over Grenades and how they function. Contrasting gamemodes from TF2 and TFQuake How the classes changed, How their Play styles Differ, How the games flow, The History of Valve in the project. Things like unique Demo-man Destruct spots, Specifics of engineer buildings. Hell you couldnt even stay consistent on if it was a Half-life or CS mod. I suspect you played barley and TFC for this video. As the game is very unique with alot of History behind it. And its a shame to see such an important game Be swept under the rug like this. (Also TF2: Brother hood of arms was a working title for TF2. Not TFC. TFC was supposed to be a straight port of TFQuake)

I find it a bit hard to take away from a comment that says 'I like your content', but then proposes criticism in a way that makes me seem like a lazy and unenthusiastic content creator. In my position It's a bit strange. The truth is I understand my content and I understand what you mean as someone who is a hard fan of TFC; but my channel isn't featured around Team Fortress, and I try to do everything in a relatively nice summery. That's why a video I knew wouldn't perform greatly didn't lengthen up to 20 minutes of extra information -- thing's most people wouldn't really care about to hear. Though that doesn't mean I don't care, I want best for whoever watches. Why cover things that aren't particularly unique like grenades when they're featured in every Half Life game, functioning completely the same. What specifics could I pick up from barely recorded info on the Engineers machines if they weren't shown properly in game, besides their general usage? My problem is that if you cover anything as a novice to a game, but you still wanna cover it, I understand diehard fans are gonna nitpick sometimes -- but there's still no reason for every detail to go noticed. I hope you don't read any of this in a spiteful way, I'm not trying to sound like that, just clear up why this video is like this. It's my fault as well for publishing a video so rushed, but I really wanted something out after not uploading in continuance to just do something for people. I'll try to do better in the future

There really have been a lot of changes, even going down to gameplay that modern TF2 players may not know about since TFC. I believe Engineer being able to move his buildings was first implemented in around 2009-2011. There's an old PC Gamer UK magazine that had an article that focused a lot on Valve, from Portal 2, to TF2 and even Alien Swarm. And one mention was that Engineer being able to move his buildings would have made him an offensive class (how right did that turn out to be). Here's a couple of general strats that may seem wildly different from modern TF2 that the classes in TFC had: - Scout: You are not a damage giver and you shouldn't even bother doing damage. If you have to kill use your nailgun. Your only objective is to steal the flag. Use concussion jumping and bunny hopping to steal the flag. Touch teammates if you can to spy check since scouts remove disguises merely by touching them. - Medic: Don't bother healing teammates. Again like the scout you should only focus on capturing the flag. Use your Double Barrel and Super Nailgun to take out anyone in your way and to shred sentries respectively. Use concussion jumping and bunny hopping to steal the flag. Medic is literally just better than scout because of his damage output and survivability, and conc jumping outweighs the negative trait of being slower than scout. - Spies: Your disguise doesn't break when throwing grenades. This gives Spy some offensive capability and he can destroy sentries pretty easily because of this and cause undue chaos with hallucination grenades. - Heavy: Engineer's dispenser is your best friend. Don't bother being out in the open because Sniper very easily counters Heavy, especially since uber doesn't exist. Scout and Medic are the only 2 classes that are worth bothering with flag capturing. Everyone else is generally going to be geared into playing defense, especially by spamming doorways and corridors and even dropped flags with grenades.

If someone justt made a new version of TFC with the stock CTF maps and even dug up some old community made CTF maps , I'd easily give up every game I own to play. The balance and intense play of CTF was so good and it made for a great spectator spot as well to shoutcast with HLTV... This Era sadly is lost , fingers crossed it comes back at some point.

When youtubers talk about old games people hardly play, they ALWAYS bring up TF2 and bizzarely ignore the first one and nobody EVER says a peep about it in the comments. This game broke my multiplayer PC virginity back in 1999.....🤣 Here in the UK we had to use BT Wireplay portal over a 56k modem or 128k ISDN line if you were rich, it cost 2.5p to dial in and 1p per minute to play. My monthly phone bill was horrendous. As I'd spend 4-5 hours a night playing. And even more at weekends. Getting together over mIrc with friends and chatting over Rodger wilco... It was so different from doom, and Quake, had that iconic class system and with free downloadable maps!!!! Soo good!...

ALL the models on this video are older versions of TFC models. Valve have updated the models and they look, neater. Example, the medic looks like he has a black facemask ...which makes him sort of look like a ninja!

I really want to see someone who is really familiar with the game and what they can do. Watching people play it who are used to TF2 must be the equivalent of watching someone who only plays Call of Duty play TF2 with default settings, so I'm really curious to see what potential is there and what people who are good at the game can do.

Team fortress classic was not developed for quake or counter strike.

You're half right. TF was originally a Quake mod, then TFC was built as a pretty simple Half Life mod, as was Counter Strike, but the 3 games shared so many assets that it's understandable for people to confuse them. He sounds pretty young, so it seems fair to say he probably wasn't around back then.

I think maby the Medic of TF2 is also the one of TF Classic only that in between he has grown a crazy from PTSD and lost his medical lizence in the process. But there is nothing supporthing that theory other than the TF2 medic sayed in the comics that the classic team were his old experiments.

hey a tfc video in 2020. nice :) the games hella fun once you get into it. even if some movement things from tf2 dont exactly translate over to tfc, theres plenty more to mess around with, like (better) bhopping and conc jumping if you dont want to play tfc or cant buy it, theres always fortress forever. its a good sourcemod, and its in the source engine so there's still source shenanigans to deal with. one thing that could be explored more is community shit (like the whole Rasp situation), but other then that good video! hopefully thisll help bring more players in XD

I grew up playing HLDM and when they came out, CS, TFC and DoD. My best gamer memories are in those games. I love the TF2 remake, but the remade maps feel smaller.. 2fort's bridge is a shorter run, and the halls are also shorter. I prefer the larger TFC version. Some of the best maps old school maps like cz2 are forgotten. I used to love working with a demo as a spy and getting them into the control room so they could blow it. I'd do it as much as I could when the map came out. I've only played TF2 a few weeks now, but I don't see matches like that. Yet to see demo's blow open new tunnels either. If I can see it, let me know.
