I remember Harris , I helped close it , I told them it would be a big mistake to close it but they were bought out and moved to Redlands mall where they ended up closing anyways

They never should have built this mall in the first place. Back in the 1960’s San Bernardino hired a bunch of consultants to see where downtown San Bernardino was in decline. They determined that 1/3 of downtown needed to be torn down and a freestanding set back mall be built in its place. Brilliant idea Einsteins!! Even a chimpanzee could have suggested that one. This mall was supposed to be the corner stone that would revitalize the whole downtown. Well, we see how well that worked! Meanwhile, downtown Riverside is so many miles ahead of downtown San Bernardino it’s pathetic, seriously!

Decades of corruption in city government in SB. Instead of keeping the city clean, updating the buildings/sidewalks/streets when needed, and running the gangs out of town, they ripped off tax payers and let the city turn into a dump. They won't be able to turn that place around without raising taxes, but with so many people on welfare and living below the poverty line, they will never have the money to do anything. Riverside is a great example of a decently-run city.

📕A retire person from San Bernardino Norton Air Force base told me that closing that base in 1994 hurt the carrusel mall badly, and other “entertainment businesses” 🤔 in the city and surrounding towns did suffer the lost significantly📝

I guess entertainment for the military is part of a healthy mind but after 1994 there is no reason to spend on organizing and other resources

I lived in San Bernardino in the 80s. My own renovation plan was pretty simple. Put a cop on every corner and displace the dangerous populations. Push out the hookers and the vagrants and the gangs. Did they do it? No. But they did put in some fancy street lights. Shocked! Shocked I am that people drove a few miles down the highway to Inland Center.
