The 361, 383 and 413 continued being offered for Dodge's medium-weight trucks until that line was discontinued in the U.S. after 1977. Afterward, the Trenton Engine plant that made these big blocks would only manufacture the 400 and 440 in the Power Wagon pick-ups, but only until the end of model-year 1978; in light of Chrysler's 1979 near-bankruptcy episode, the Trenton Engine plant was overhauled to manufacture the 2.2L "Trans-Four" engine that was used in many Chrysler front-wheel-drive cars such as the Omni/Horizon and Aries/Reliant, among others.

The cross-section view at 0:26 is of a POLY engine. The intake valve with the pushrod going underneath is a dead giveaway.

1965 426 street wedge was also available in C bodies, not just B.

There were no small-block B series engines. The small-blocks were A and LA. B engines were all big blocks, with RBs being the biggest big blocks.

I remember those giant six cell batteries to just crank over high compression big blocks. They were truck batteries.

65 Coronet 273 had adjustable rocker arms. I wanted to do a cam install when I did a head job on the motor. My step dad would have been pissed so I did not. Yeah we are talking big blocks but many were built with hydraulic cams and non adjustable rocker arms. The kid down the street bought a flat tappet cam for his 440 build and forgot the correct rocker arms. He singed his eyebrows looking down the carb. It was funny!

1964-67 273 engines had mechanical lifters. The 273 got hydraulic lifters in 1968-69. All other LA engines had hydraulic lifters as well.

I thought the Red Ram was a hemi and not a wedge.
@1575murray3 жыл бұрын
This is true. Dodge never used the Red Ram name on the wedge engines. The picture in the video shows a Hemi engine.

@@1575murray 0:26 is a Polyspherical engine . This was a 277 / 318 < not the modern LA 318 engine

I have a RB 383 Awesome motor never rebuilt still original still running

@@josephmachado3285 I wish I could find a 59 or 60 DeSoto, or a 61 Chrysler Windsor/62 Chrysler non-letter 300, and put an RB 383 in it. I would have something that is not just like everybody else's.

You never talked about the 440 6 pack
@79tazman3 жыл бұрын
440 6 pack is a 440 with a 6 pack there is no difference in the block it's a RB engine
@1575murray3 жыл бұрын
True but it was a rare option only available in 1969 and 1970. Most 440s had a single 4 barrel carburetor.
@drippinglass3 жыл бұрын
I have 2 1970 V-code cars. A ‘Cuda and a Charger. Both 4-Speed Dana. All 440 blocks are all the same. The only difference is the HP stamp for the different internals.

Still have never even seen a pic of a supposed mopar "350 big block" what where there like 2 made?
@bigblockjalopy3 жыл бұрын
More like many 1000s, as it was the standard motor for every 1958 Desoto Firesweep and it was a popular option for 58 Plymouths.
@MultiMoveman3 жыл бұрын
Cool, never knew that
@billyjoejimbob563 жыл бұрын
The 350 shared the 4.030 bore dimension of the RB 383 engine... both were dropped after two years The 361 was bored to 4.125, and the LB 383 was bored to 4.250.
@paulthain61357 ай бұрын
pretty sure there's no 383 RB
@Troy440Dodge7 ай бұрын
The 383RB was used during the 1959-1960 Chrysler Windsor and Saratoga models. Rare today, most I have seen were 2 barrel carburetor equipped.

True, A great engine series that was rugged and easy to work on too.
