I have seen a lot of people mentioning this topic so I will address it here just for context: I didn't mention Evrima in this video because that specific branch of the game is clearly a new vision for the Isle and since it has such major differences I opted to not include it in the video. The next question will probably be "why isn't the video called The History of The Isle legacy then?", the answer for that is that, to me and many others, Legacy IS the Isle. Practically the entire community started playing the game between 2015-2020, and all our memories and love for the game come from legacy. I am aware that Evrima is the future of the game, and it is objectively more polished and improved to a degree, and once that branch is fully realized, it will without a doubt be superior to legacy. However, I feel that Evrima has lost something, it is hard to describe since it's completely subjective, but I believe most of the community can agree with me on that front. Probably just nostalgia. Once Evrima becomes the definitive dominant version of the Isle I will change the title to legacy, but until then it will stay as it is. Feel free to share your thoughts and opinions, just make sure to stay polite guys, stay safe :)

Hello X Zaguer! , I want to tell you first what a good job. Second thing I want to tell you is you are absolutely right. I think it's great that you have approached the Legacy and the evrima as 2 different topics. Even when my friends and I call each other to play this message we say "do we play the isle?" and when we play the other version we say "we play evrima". So even for us evrima is another game, it can be something visually beautiful with new mechanics, but a certain essence has been lost.

Progression was the best gamemode 100% , every Rex you would come across had FOUGHT for being a rex and survived countless playtroughs to reach it. Every rex was Dangerous, nowadays i find that the quality of species played has heavily decreased in terms of skill level. Because in progression days, if you did not have what it took, you would not reach Rex. The volume of diversity in species was also very rich due to the "forced" format of having to play trough most of them to reach what u wanted to become. AI didnt exist, hunting was challenging , you fail to catch a player, you die. I miss it so much im ngl. Progession was the best stage of this game

Love the video. You did great work. I honestly forgot half the things that were happening early in the game. There are some discrepancies tho, most come from content being unavailable or locked for private hosting it looks like. Ai was in v3 from 2016-2017, it was a awful galli that stood in place and sometimes yelled but still ai, there was also more around the time v2 got its final rework, angry trikes that would chase you to the ends of the earth. I believe v4 was also the largest map before Evirmas Isla Spiro. 2 maps were left out, grim expanse and the stoneclaw highlands (these were though the workshop and were removed just before mods were no longer supported) I remember these being official maps made by a now former developer. Mod support was also removed 2018(?), around the time growth was becoming the major game mode, well before the mod menu option was removed. Evirma's development started 2018, surprised nothing was mentioned further on it seeing how it is still apart of the games history. Im also surprised nothing was mentioned about the Stomping Lands, its where the 1st dino models/skins came from.
@XZaguer3 жыл бұрын
I tried the best i can but sladly the games had 547 updates if im not mistaken, so it was kinda inevitable that something was going to be missed. Grun expanse and stoneclaw were never present in the files and since they were mods i never had access to them (trust me, i wanted to). I was aware of the stomping land's models but i didnt think it was significant information to be added since it was about another game so i chose to not included. Same thing with Evrima, that branch is clearly a different vision for the game so i treated seperately and prefered to just mention it in the end. I appreciate the criticism tho :)

personally i loved the isle because it's a scary and one could say "hardcore" game in the sense that you can lose hours of progress in seconds or because of one small mistake making you start over... but that's what makes the game so replay-able, if you like the game and it's core idea then you can't get enough of it... the feeling of laying in a bush as a juvie or sub in the dark, seeing only a few meters away from you (except if you play the demons.. ugh.. i mean dilos :') ) and hearing tthose stomps and calls around you truly makes your heart race and that's what i loved so much... now evrima feels like it lost much of that, i heard now the newest update they added night vision and made the nights darker which i love and i will download evrima again to see how it is but that's the thing.. i always go back to legacy..... i really hope they make evrima as close as possible to legacy otherwise for me they will ruin the game... if people want to play arcade games there's beasts of bermuda and path of titans and stuff like that but isle was meant to be a simulator more than just a game.. it's supposed to be hard dark and scary .. that's the heart of the isle

This is a great video! Brought back a lot of memories of the older days when I would play this game non-stop for hours on end. I used to play back in the Summer of 2016 all the way up until around to the end of 2017 or early 2018. I got back into it a few times after that but never as consistently as before. I feel like the game was incredibly fun at the start of its lifetime, I'd go as far as to say it peaked around this time. I remember how much fun it was to be able to jump into a game and just see packs of herbivores being attacked by carnivores, having such an emphasis on combat made it a lot of fun for all parties involved. I would say the era of 2016 sandbox was definitely one of its peaks for sure. The early days of progression is arguably its second peak, I remember watching TheGamingBeaver's videos and jumping straight into it on Region 2. What made it work so well is not only the wide variety of dinosaurs to progress to, but also the fact that progression times were long enough to make you think twice about senselessly attacking anyone, but not long enough to turn away casual players. I think during this time a lot of that emphasis on combat definitely dissipated since there was a healthy emphasis on survival. I remember Utah's would run entire servers back then and it was definitely a lot of fun trying to work your way to the top. I think in total it was barely over an hour to make it to an apex, which is nearly nothing compared to what people play now to reach adulthood. I remember staying up for hours on end on school nights just watching the Dev's stream and hearing them speak on their plans for Hypos. Other memorable moments were when Spino's were added, nesting, or when they gave people the chance to work their way up to a Hypo Rex for a certain amount of progression points. It was truly a lot of fun. That being said, I feel like overtime the game as a whole has lost its light, and the developers have lost their spark. What good does a game full of perfectly polished dinosaurs do me when the design of the game is fundamentally flawed? At times, it truly feels like the game is going backwards. I don't know how much time they think we have on our hands but the current play-times they want their community to give to the game is borderline insane. Especially considering you'll be pretty useless for more than half of it as you still reach adulthood, it's currently peak "Go AFK, come back, AFK again, and wait till you're adult." Like, no one should be playing 6 hours just to reach adulthood. Borderline insanity. And on top of that, it's lost a lot of its diversity in dinosaurs. I feel like it's a golden rule of gaming to cater to the general public and not the people who have 9 hours straight to play, because while fan-bases do exist, they'll never be as good as having a fanbase + a casual gamer community. Great job with the video! It was a lot of fun to watch. TL;DR: What good does having a perfectly polished Deino, Utah, Ptero, etc. do us when the game is fundamentally flawed? It's insane that most people can say they had more fun in the earlier days of The Isle than they do now. The game is taking one step forward but twenty steps backwards all at once.

Thank you very much, I'm glad that you enjoyed the video :) sadly I never experienced the isle in its prime, that, and watching how the game is reversing made me want to go back in time and try to experience how the game was back in the day, and I got to say, the difference is night and day. The game changed a lot, and unfortunately, most of it wasn't for the best. But now with evrima, all we can do is to wait and see if the devs show us that they are capable of recreating the charm the isle once had
@ElfainDeLeon3 жыл бұрын
@@XZaguer For sure! I think the devs are incredibly talented people and the rate of progress IS in check with the amount of developers on the team, but like we were saying, a dino that's perfect in every department will do no good in a world that has no diversity and nothing in store for it. I'm obviously gonna hope the devs turn this one back around because I'd like to see them win! It's just sad because it feels like they very quickly removed so much content in an attempt to make the game better but all it did was dig it down deeper.

I don't think it's just nostalgia, but the fact that you can communicate with anyone on the server in Legacy. At Evrima you only go with your fellows (species), which makes the whole thing more threatening and more exciting for me personally. Also, you can no longer just hide in the bushes, just do something else (take a quick look at KZbin or something like that) and then eat and drink a little and get bigger. Because you can now be sniffed out, you are constantly exposed to danger. Especially since the night is not completely dark and the no longer available night vision does not restrict your field of vision. By the way, great work you've done here.

Isle v2 by August 2017 is still the best map to ever hit this game (excluding mods). Providing enough room to find a good location to survive, while not being too huge to where you rarely see anyone. The foliage/colors were really good too the bushes being multicolored and having enough room to hide or sneak around in. Good landmarks and interesting terrain too.

Great video! I only joined the game about a month before Evrima when the hype for it was insane, but I had been following the game for many years through KZbin. At the time I didn't have a PC to play it on, but when I did get one in 2019, The Isle was entangled in tons of drama that kept me away from buying it alongside with many development issues. I am watching Evrima's progress excitedly, even though I wish it would go I bit faster. According to the devs, updates might come faster than update 3 took since Deinosuchus and Pteranodon had specialized mechanics that took them longer to complete. Part of me does wish you covered Evrima in this, but from reading the pinned comment I can tell there are some reasons that would've probably gotten in the way from you covering it objectively. This is your video however, and that was my only criticism besides maybe getting a dedicated microphone. Keep it up! I'll be on the lookout for any other content.

On the begginning when game was young very fast run ups from one update to another and between the last updates a bit slower run ups, musics make their job beautifully. I ve nearly cried on end. Very beautiful video but i don t think it s just about game. It s a bit like a life history - when life begins everything goes so fast and at the end of being all slows down. This video gaved me much to think and i have to say it s pretty mysterious game. Once again really good job!

I remember getting this game in 2016, I think I got it sometime in march, and I played consistently for like 3 years only stopping about 3 months before evrima, which I still have not played, but I am currently downloading it. and I can say my favourite moment throughout all of my time playing (about 2k hours) is raising a T-rex army on isla terra, and taking over the server, we were only defeated after we met with a protection herd, a literal army made by our enemy's in response to our invasion, I in particular died to a camarasaurus, but most deaths were caused by trikes and stego's, but we accomplished our goal, just about everyone was reset as everyone was killed, we owned the server for like 6 hours and we all died, excluding a few who left before the war. fun, sadly megapacking is banned now on most servers, possible because of this event, but tbf I think that's for the best, as watching 30 t-rexs run down a hill after a single shant can look pretty silly
@averytallgremlin20973 жыл бұрын
the reason I say I raised the army, it's because I was the first in the group and the first to pop out babies, the game mode was progression, so we wouldn't have had any where near as many rexes if it wasn't for me

I was searching for a video on The Isle Legacy lore. Couldn't find one, I guess no one is crazy enough to make an eight hour video on in-game hints, Discord and Reddit posts. Tbh, Legacy lore is a toss up. And Dondi said that there would be a definetive end to "the story" (debateble whether or not there is an actual story, I think it's always been and still is very vague). But then I found this video and I was like, "Heck yes!!" So I watched it, and loved it. I missed a few locations that made me nostalgic, but I think you said in the comments that you started playing in 2018, so that's alright. Brings back memories from the old maps which I needed. Good work, my dude. Also.. I just realized how eerily similar the Redwood Map looks.. to the DoD og map. The one made from store assets. Could be just me. I hope you cover Evrima one day after four or five years of *its* development. "... and Dibble" *ominous evil music plays in the background*

now if they'd halted adding more dinos around Feb '16 and worked on gameplay features, netcode and UI, it'd been far better now than as it now stands with the remake starting with Evrima. they had a small but decent roster, all was missing were relatively small interactive features and refinements to the models and anims. that's all hindsight now, and let's hope the game is on the right track now. very thorough summary! I enjoyed seeing what was and how things came to be. TYSM for saving footage of gameplay from 5+ yrs ago!

Even when I didn't play it as much back than, playing mostly after the July 2016 update that gave you progression and the baby and juvi models as well as prog points, prog plants and nesting. And when the Qutz was 'in the game'. Lord it's been a wild ride.. when skins where random, and fun and you dreaded the albino skin lol. I'm really really hoping we get a 'wild card' system for skins again with chances of getting albino and melanistic

This was a pretty great all inclusive documentary on one of my favorite games! Great job detailing the updates in order & what they added/removed. It was an emotional roller coaster that felt crazy reliving in the form of a video. I was there since early 2016. But one thing that seemed very strange/off about the video, was that you completely left out Evrima except for like one sentence at the end. At the time that this video was updated, Legacy was already pronounced abandoned but playable, & Evrima was labelled as the actively supported game version. & the definite future of The Isle. How could you make a documentary about the history of this game without featuring Evrima? Maybe you will just have to make a part 2 =) I will definitely watch it if you do!
@XZaguer3 жыл бұрын
Glad that you enjoyed the video :) really appreciate it. Regarding evrima, that branch is clearly a different vision for the game so i treated seperately and prefered to just mention it in the end, i noticed that a lot of people have been asking the same thing for the past few weeks, but i think for most of the community, the Isle IS legacy, Evrima is an improvement and an ongoing project from the developers, but many (including myself) feel that legacy had something that evrima lost. It is soon to say for certain that thats the case since evrima is so young however. But i will defenitely make a part 2 eventually, hopefully it will end on a lighter note :)

i just finished the video. i'll start off by saying that i appreciate the amount of work that went into this in terms of research, playtime, and editing. i was thoroughly entertained and learned some things about the maps that surprised me and even conflicted with my recollection of past events. i must also say that i was left somewhat disappointed at the lack of context and negative rhetoric surrounding the future of the game that implied an impending doom. a doom, yes, a doom for legacy which was purposely cast aside for its inability to accommodate new and dynamic features that would bring more life to the game in favor of Evrima that has proven that it can. that information has been common knowledge for far too long to have been excluded from a video titled, "The History of The Isle." This video isn't that, this video is a breakdown of all of the important milestones/patches and a good one at that. i'm not defending the games downfalls, but i sorely would like it to succeed so i can continue to enjoy it and share it with friends for even more years to come, i can't help but feel that cynicism may have been too big of an influence on the production of this as well as a lack of revisions in the script that contained errors in terms of features that would "never return" (i.e. flight) (edit: -which leads me to believe that you didn't have the best intentions, though i can understand your grief towards the development of the game.) if you were to post a comment with revisions in regards to recent developments and additions in regards to the remake i would be very appreciative and this video can truly call itself a "History of The Isle" because as of the uploading time THE SCRIPT IS FACTUALLY OUTDATED! 🤥 Thank you again for your hard work, especially your phenomenal editing and by extension your sense of humor, and please don't take my grievances to heart. I look forward to more stuff like this whether it be Isle related or not. peace.

I appreciate a lot the time you put on making this lengthy comments, from what I remember this is not the first time and it always was very well constructive criticism and I couldn't ask for more. Regarding your points, my intention with the video was to report the development of legacy exclusively, evrima is a remake of the isle and I will take it as such, I think it would be unfair to add it to my video since it is clear that these 2 versions are decently apart from each other in terms of production quality, scope and scale. I will agree with the overly negative tone of the video towards the end, I already had a "not so great" perspective of the isle's development, and feeling 5 years of it in the space of 2 weeks and seeing how much it changed was a bit overwhelming. Even tho this was my first time doing such large project, I can't hide the video's flaws behind my inexperience, the best thing I can say is that I did my best, and I hope you and everybody else enjoyed the video. Once again I appreciate your comments, hope to see you around 🙂

the fact the community is so against decent controls still baffle me, tank/car controls are not a good option for a multiplayer survival game with a strong focus on melee combat, its just common sense. The only thing separating these playable dinosaurs from things like street fighter characters or dbz open world characters is the model, thats about it. Just because they are dinosaurs or animals, does not mean they can't effectively move in the environment.

oml this was a trip down memory lane, this brought out memories that I forgot I had about the game so OG 2015 isle player here, so region 2 when it came out was hands down the pretties map in the game and if you disagree I'll tell you now that you're wrong. Misty Valley tho was like my favorite map, it was perfect for carno players (was a carno main at this time), you can just run things down and they had no where to hide. V4 was a ton of fun when it was out, it was big enough that you could have a large player count on a server and everyone could get away from everyone else. The new biomes that the map had where just beautiful. But 2016-17 was when the game was at its BEST, no other time in the games history can compare. From Progression to survival, modding, all the new maps to explore that was the best time to play the game and the part that sucks is I miss this time and I feel sorry for all the new players who will never get to experience that. How they look at the isle now and say how great and amazing it is and I just think "no it was far better". Like I really am remembering all this stuff right now lol, I remember when they released Bary and how op it was, when they did a stress test for Quetzal and we filled the skies, when bleeding was added and the ground everywhere was just covered in blood, how when you broke your leg it would never heal, how legit 95% of players played Allo when it came out. So many memories in such a short period of time. Bro save this video, this is something all isle players need to see old and new.
