I'd live to know how thick the saucer section is? It looks very flat. But with being over 2 miles long and very wide. Thst saucer could be 5 to 10 decks deep. It's just that we've never gotyon right up close to the edge of the saucer section to look st it very good.

That curvy, interior corridor of Enterprise-J (from where one can see the bottom of the saucer), doesn't make any sense when it is compared to the actual ship on the wall.

To much Temporal and Alternative Universe crap.one Timeline, one Universe. Let DrWho do the time and Alternative Universe stuff. It shows the writers have run out of ideas. Thats one reason Enterprise lasted only 3 years. Did the Enterprise D ever do time travel? And there was never any mention of the Lizard guys from Enterprise in TNG. I know Voyager had Temporal adventures especially The Year From Hell.

@billtree526 жыл бұрын
Can you explain how any starship design makes sense compared to real life space travel?
@MrPobanz6 жыл бұрын
Sure, no problem, though its gonna be rather what makes the least sense: While one doesn't have to care about air resistance in space which makes aerodynamic constructions unnecessary (aka Mass Effect's Normandy with its cute rear spoiler makes no sense for example), there are still inertia related structural issues, which means that every unnecessary extension from the center of mass is a weak spot. In other words: the Borg sphere would be the best design to endure changes in velocity without structural failures and the more you depart from that design, the higher the strain on the whole structure especially the parts farther away from the center. Taking that into account, designs like the Enterprise D are worse than the Voyager with warp gondolas being the worst offender, though explained as necessary, thus excusable (while the Voyager variant is far superior to the Ent D one) and the Enterprise J with its incredibly thin structure being just ridiculous without even taking into account other practical factors. There's also a logistical reason why a thinner disc shape is less favorable to one with more volume (more possible vectors of movement improve deployment speed, to make it short). Surely it's not about being as realistic as possible, hardly any design in Star Trek comes even close to being a "good spaceship" (and i have no problem with that, "rule of cool"), still the designs have to be "believable" and I'd argue that none have to take even a semester at engineering to simply take a look at the Ent J to know something doesn't look right.

Very well put. I thought the Borg cube would terrible in an atsomosphere , but I guess it is like an 80's semi truck?

Yeah, it probably wouldn't break any speed records with that frame but it would easily beat any Formula 1 counterpart when it comes to endurance!
