@DBZimran, it's heartwarming to see that Toonami has touched so many lives and memories in other countries as well. It's unfortunate that 1) live action stuff and bad decisions have effected U.K.'s Toonami by 2007 as it did in the U.S. by 2008. and 2) From what I've gathered and understand, Toonami never came back to the U.K. after it originally died there in 2007, like it did for us and Asia in 2012 after it originally died for us in 2008.

Great video! So much nostalgia, it was sad to see Toonami decline in the UK, I'm 30 now and it had a huge impact on me! I do remember for a very brief time in the DBZ fusion saga, it went back to being the Funimation dub but quickly switched back to Ocean, it was very strange lol. I thought i was losing my mind remembering that but forum posts from back then confirmed it.

Glad i could help and thanks for the mention 😄. I remember as a kid when Toonami started airing live action things and being so confused. It’s in the name TOON-ami! Also notice how those gremlin things mistreat the logo Toonami and in one instance they take bites out of it only to look sick after. Almost like a foreshadowing that it’s gone bad 🤔. This was a great video and I look forward to more 👍🏻

This is really cool. As a US Toonami fan who learned about the 24 hour Toonami channel you guys had in the UK I was jealous that you got more than two hours of Toonami a day until I learned about all the mistakes they were making which lead to CN Too. This video put into perspective some of the things I merely had small glimpses of on some websites back in the day. Thank you for making this!

Good video. Had Sky from Septemebr 2002 to August 2009. I watched Toonami block at friends hosues from 2000 to 2002 and the CNX channel followed by Toonami and CN Too until August 2009. Toonami should've stayed as a block never as a channel especially a 24/7 channel.

D-Money In fairness Dragon Ball was very much Toonami’s flagship show, and the channel’s history runs very much in tandem with DB’s run in the UK. It’s no coincidence that Toonami didn’t last much longer after they finished airing every DB show and movie. It was Cartoon Network’s first big anime show that appealed to older kids and teens, so it naturally led to the establishment of Toonami as a channel dedicated to that demographic.

As someone born with Heart disease CNX and Toonami were my childhood and what got me into the anime world. Staying up until 1:00 Am to watch Dragonball Z, Gundam Wing and the Big O on Cartoon Network. I will never forget how much of an impact the Cell and Buu arcs had on me! While I was enjoying DBZ a lot (Goku vs Raditz was my favourite fight as it got me hooked at first), my love for DBZ went through the roof when the Cell plot started kicking in with the spooky 2nd-time machine, Cell's disgusting leftover Bug Shell, and the creepy aura. My little jaw dropped when I first saw Imperfect Cell debut in Ginger Town, my face was full of shock terror and hype (My mind was saying wow! Cell blows Frieza and anything that came before him out of the water from looks alone, what a great-looking monster design!). Then watching Cell become perfect, fight Vegeta and Trunks then his final battle with Goku and Gohan! It was the stuff of amazing TV! Even my mum and dad were watching Gohan's fight with Cell. Then when the Buu arc started airing, seeing Gohan go to High school and grow up hit me (As he was my favourite character in the show at the time along with Goku), I did enjoy watching the High School episodes with him as the Great Saiyaman! Then, when they got to talking about Majin Buu, my little brain wouldn't stop thinking about how Buu was going to look, he is going to look scarier than Cell?. Sadly, I remember being super let down by how Fat Buu looked thinking in my head (Cell was 1000 times better than this pink chewing gum thing) but I was enjoying DBZ still and the cliffhanger where the evil men shoot Buu's dog shocked me only for the next episode to go back to Raditz vs Goku. Little me was like no! Don't do re-runs now! I need to know what happens to Bee and Buu! The hype I felt went CNX was about to air Fusion Saga with a double episode, I couldn't wait to get home from school and see what happened to Buu and Bee (despite little me not being super into this Buu arc so far), I couldn't imagine what was going to happen. The first two episodes not only blew my little brains out, but they changed my whole view on the Buu saga. Seeing Skinny Buu kill one of the evil men, beat up and eat Fat Buu, then kill the other evil man and go off to Kami's Lookout! Little 7-year-old me was jumping up and down thinking DBZ is so back! Super Buu is amazing and this arc went from 5 to over 9000 in less than an hour. Every episode and fight was just hit after hit, Buu vs Gotanks, Buu vs Gohan, Goku vs Buu, Vegito vs Buu. When the final episode aired and ended on a cliffhanger of Goku and Vegeta fighting Super Buu while inside of him, as he was about to absorb Vegeta. I couldn't tell how this arc was going to fully end or how they were going to beat Buu. This was my first time thinking, I think Goku and the gang had lost.....Super Buu has won. Then the next day I put on DBZ at 5 PM again to see what was going to happen only to be sadly disappointed it was back to square one with Goku vs Raditz. After months of re-runs, they got back to 260, and yet again the next day back to Raditz vs Goku (I was starting to hate the fight that got me hooked in the first place). I just give up! However, little did I know this was going to be the final re-run... So, after months again they got back to 260. I put on Dragonball Z the next day thinking I bet it's Goku vs Raditz again (not knowing there was a trailer for Kid Buu saga I stopped watching Toonami as Sky One was airing Transformers Armada and Yugioh while Jetix was airing endless Power Ranger seasons). When the voice-over said, last time on DBZ and I saw clips of Goku and Vegeta fighting Super Buu from his insides I screamed like crazy saying..WAIT THIS IS NOT GOKU VS RADITZ! 261 was so amazing to watch the first time, seeing Vegeta rip Fat Buu out of Super Buu and seeing Buu transform. I was thinking, oh shoot Super Buu is going to become that skinny Buu again and that's going to be the final battle? Seeing Kid Buu for the first time shocked me, little me was thinking, wait that does not make sense, what is this form? Why does he look like that? However, I was so hyped for new episodes that the plot hole just went over my head and Kid Buu turned out to be hyped anyway, seeing him blow up the earth and then going to fight the already dead in the afterlife to try and kill them again. I was like dear lord Kid Buu is unhinged and cool! His final battle with Goku was so good, that I can say for many of us watching that fight as a kid was like an event. Seeing all the past villains watching the fight in hell and the earth giving their support to Goku's Spirit Bomb to beat Kid Buu. After Goku had won, I stood up and clapped saying what a long ride and what a perfect way to end the series. The final few episodes were neat but the real shock came in the final episode as Goku and Uub left with the voice-over going see you next time on Dragonball GT. I was going oh shit there is going to be a sequel to DBZ, can't wait to see Goku live with Uub and his family. Dragon Ball GT aired and while I still really enjoyed it with it being more Dragon Ball, I could tell my love for the show was not the same as with Z. However one funny memory I did have was saying wait.. BABY IS THAT SCARY GOLD MONKEY FINAL BOSS ON THAT DRAGONBALL PS1 GAME I GOT FOR XMAS! I also remember enjoying the Shadow Dragon arc as well. GT ended and while there were trailers for the original Dragonball and DBZ movies, my love for Dragonball (Although, I still loved the games) was not there anymore as I was getting more into stuff like Beyblade, Yugioh and still was into Transformers and Power Rangers plus the big green dub for the movies really killed it for me. However, Dragon Ball would pull me back in one time when I flipped over to Toonami for a bit and there was a trailer for the final Dragonball arc saying this is the final arc of Dragonball to be bought over to the UK TV. I was like oh shoot they going to show the fight with Goku and Piccolo that they tease at the start of Budokai 1 story mode. Despite the iffy dub. the whole arc got me back into Dragonball fully and seeing Goku fight his opponents barefoot really had this nostalgic vibe to it like I was getting into DBZ for the first time again back in 2001 with the Raditz fight (plus the endless re-runs of it) and seeing Black T-Shirt's of barefoot Goku with his Kamehameha at a car boot. After the arc finished, I just had tears down my eyes as not only did I love the arc but I knew this was it Dragonball/Z/GT was done. After Toonami closed down, I just broke down in tears knowing it was all gone. However, I still kept up with Dragonball from 2005-2012 with Dragonball buying BT2 and BT3 and with now a computer, I could watch the Dragonball movies (with a good dub) and still learn more about the world and its characters I never knew back in 2003, like looking up who the hell Hirudegarn was after 10 year old me being so freaked out by him on BT2 due to looking a lot like a bigger more ugly version Imperfect Cell. I used to have nightmares of him and Imperfect Cell eating me x...x. Anyway, sorry for the long comment, hope people enjoyed reading a piece of my childhood.

I feel that CNX may have survived if it had been launched on Freeview in 2003. They had licensing issues so they had to recycle episodes of some series, particularly Justice League. It was repetitive and it needed more shows. The channel could've aired more adult anime as well as the uncensored versions of the Dragon Ball and Z series. The same thing can be said with the Tenchi series. If CNX were to come back they can use blocks but retain the channel's original branding than use Toonami for the children's lineup or don't use programming blocks at all.

Can you reupload these idents individually, and do you have the cnx "lose yourself" promo? Also toonami started as a block on CNX may 5th 2003 6am from 6am - 7pm then from july 1am - 9pm with CNX running for just 3 hours Tom was voiced by Christian Stevenson probably a holdover from when he presented the magazine show trailerpark on cnx back before toonami was introduced to the channel. Apparently most of the CNX toonami idents were holdovers from the later days of tom 2 being used on the cartoon network block before the decision was made to close it down and launch CNX.

In Australia during 1999 to 2004 We had Cheez TV on Channel 10 during the mornings from 7:00am to 8:30am, that is where Pokemon, Digimon, Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, Card Captors, Mew Mew Power, Zoids, YuGiOh and other such series aimed for a younger audience. Often they would be censored 4Kids versions or even Saban's Fox Kids censored versions of those shows. And on SBS just after South Park on Monday night, we had Neon Genesis Evangelion as well as Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 and there was even Cowboy Beebop as well as Ghost in the Shell. All in their original Japanese versions with English dub being the difference. Later on SBS during the weekends there would be Studio Ghibli films that would air at various times. Earlier in the 90s, Agro's Cartoon Connection on channel 7 was the morning show to watch Samurai Pizza Cats, Bob in the Bottle, Bumpety Boo as well as the early Sailor Moon series in it's first few seasons. Of course reruns would occur every time a season ended and it was either a American cartoon or a Japanese cartoon depending on what was popular at the time. An during the 1980s, I would often wake up early to watch Astro Boy on Australian ABC around 6:30am, mostly because I wanted to catch the start of Dennis the Menace during the 80s but watching the 80s Astro Boy was my first experience of Japanese Animation during my first few years of my life I could remember. During the late 80s I also remember watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and during the early to mid 90s I watched Mighty Morphan Power Rangers. Both were American shows with some Japanese reference to the Ninjas from Ninja Turtles or the giant robot footage taken from Super Sentai that was in Mighty Morphan Power Rangers

It’s kind of a shame that we may never see Toonami ever again in The UK, and that it never got the same treatment of the block returning, unlike with the US. Especially nowadays, with Cable Television starting to phase out of consuming media and most cartoon TV channels in the UK starting to shut down in favour of streaming services. While nowadays, there are plenty of ways to watch Anime in the UK, part of me does miss simply just watching Anime and action cartoons on a channel specially made for them. But at the same time I am glad that Toonami sort of had the same impact it does in the US, with many people of the UK stating they got into many Anime shows because of channels like Toonami.

I have collected adverts since 2010 and a few fans have been kind enough to send me their old tapes of UK DBZ recordings to back up.

I'm not messing around or joking but I do remember seeing on Toonami UK when it became a channel a promo of the official Intruder where tom 1 got devoured by the red stuff. Would you know anything about that because I seriously do remember that promo.
@DBZimran5 жыл бұрын
The UK had intruder promos and showed the US intruder episodes.

The archived cartoonnetwork UK and toonami UK sites have the exact air dates. If I remember they aired in summer of 2001.

You’re so lucky I wish toonami was still around when I started watching Cartoon Network but it ended in 2008 here in the US and I didn’t start watching Cartoon Network until two year’s later and it was the channel I always watch when I got home from school I wish I’d seen the original naruto anime on toonami so I could have nostalgia for the series like most naruto fans do and Pokémon as well that one is my favorite anime and also one piece and even bleach too despite being more for teenagers/adults but it ended and before I even watch Cartoon Network it and bleach was airing on adult swim and one piece had a rough start here on the US and naruto was remove from Cartoon Network before it finished it American run and shippuden started airing on Disney XD at least Pokémon was still on Cartoon Network and toonami did return in 2012 but it was on adult swim I wish I’d had the same experience you had watching toonami as a kid it’s so unfair!!!!!😫 At least I’d had adventure time, regular show, the amazing world of gumball, and steven universe.

I don't know if Toonami has a likely chance of coming back, considering how Adult Swim is now on E4/All 4, but if it were to come back it would need to be a whole other channel.

That is true and also cus of the fact All4 has most anime shows now.

Just watching this now, and its cool to get an in-depth into how Toonami was on the other side of the pond. That said, hearing those dub voices for DBZ threw me the hell off with my American ears and all, haha

Apparently Channel 5 own the Toonami name in the UK now according to an old 2007 article. Can anyone confirm this to be true?
