That’s how I got into One Piece about ten years ago. One of the episodes in the 200s just happened to be on Toonami one night, and I thought “this character sounds like Krillin, that’s neat. @LainK19787 жыл бұрын
Eh, really by the time DBZ came around I don't think most people cared about the article more probably looked at it because of the two of them. The whole "violence in cartoons" blah blah blah had started back in the early to mid 80s culminating in shows like GI Joe and Transformers getting the little PSAs added to them at the end. After 10+ years, there wasn't really any factual support for the argument but DBZ was getting really popular so those who want to blame cartoons, games, and the like for kids and young adults misbehaving used that as an excuse for it while ignoring other more likely causes.

Great documentary that not only touches on the sheer exhilaration of DBZ's explosion in the mainstream, but also the awesomeness of early Cartoon Network in general. Thanks so much.

I remember when I first saw the show- I was only 6 and I was seeing Goku versus Full Power Freeza. I was so hooked that- in the years following I would become such a big nerd of it. Problem is- being a child can also catch up with your attention span. So I grew up- not watching DB DBZ or DBGT until the late Highschool years, when I remembered Vegeta's Super Saiyan track done by Bruce Falconer. After that- it resparked my love in Dragon Ball, and is now STILL one of my alltime favorite animes and shows. All because of Toonami...

Geekdom shows more love to CN than CN does.
@sirmel117 жыл бұрын
how so?
@thrillking72287 жыл бұрын
Sirmel11 Cartoon Network barely acknowledged their 25 year anniversary. They did the same schedule of Teen Titans Go and didn't even try to air any of the old classics that put CN where it is today. Geekdom acknowledged EVERY aspect of CNs past and what made them one of the best places to watch cartoons...or used to.
@sirmel117 жыл бұрын
You're not wrong on them not acknowledging it. Sorry about that. I was wrong for that. lol Cartoon Network is still the best place to watch cartoons. I don't see why that's even a debate these days. Disney and Nick are more live action than cartoon. It's usually the people that don't watch cartoon network that talk about stuff like this.

Ironically DBZ debuted in North America two years before Pokemon did. Pretty sure I saw DBZ and Pokemon around the same time. Early 1999. Sailor Moon was actually my first anime. Saw that on the USA Network late 97 just before it moved to Toonami the following summer

Thank you for this. I have very vague memories of watching Z on toonami (I'm only 16) but I remember how it felt like each episode was a movie, the most lasting memory I have of toonami is Goku flying into Piccolo Jr. to win the budokai. My introduction to being a hardcore fan was watching nicktoon's kai and then watching the uncut blu rays but I still look back and think I had the privilege of watching the greatest shonen manga/anime of all time in it's fullest edition.

I remember back in Jr. High, when I would break out the VHS tapes and set the timer to record an anime show that was scheduled to be on Cinemax, Showtime, or HBO in the middle of the night. This was all pre-Guide button and pre-internet (or at least before it was widely and easily available), so had to go buy the TV guide or sit and watch the one cable channel that used to just scroll through what was on all of the channels.

Ahh Toonami - what great memories i have of it being on UK Television - i only seem to remember DBZ/Tenchi Muyo (Then Universe and then In Tokyo) and Gundam Wing when i ever watched Toonami I did watch ALOT of Cartoon Network as well but i remember Sailor Moon & Cardcaptors were on CITV and then Pokemon and Digimon on SM:TV (CITV and SMTV were part of a channel called ITV here in the UK)

I remember the transition felt weird to my ears when they transitioned to the funmation dub . Couldn't picture what the ocean dub even sounds like now lol. ToonAmi block after school was an everyday routine . Coming into middle school the next day and talking bout what was going on in dbz with my friends, damnnnn. . Wish I could go back to 99, the peak of modern civilization.. great vid. ToonAmi was a huge part of injecting anime into the American maintream .

This was incredible to watch. Thank you for this, I watched the original Dragon Ball when I was 7. I was so excited to see Dragon Ball Z on WB when I was 9, but got so tired of the limited episode run from the first 2 seasons on Toonami. I also remember renting the uncensored Tree of Might from the ghetto video store. I love the nostalgia, a nice trip down memory lane. Again, thank you.

I met C. Martin Croker less than a year before he passed away. He came to a local con where I live and I bought a print from him. Since it was a smaller con we were able to just chill and talk about old school Cartoon Network and Adult Swim, and he was just the coolest dude. Rest in peace, good sir, and I hope the afterlife is as dope as you.

I remember the restarting of the series so many times. Only here in Canada, it was on YTV, around 5-6 pm, 2 episodes back to back every weekday in my timezone. I actually ended up spoiling the episodes for myself by going online and reading about it. I robbed myself of some epic moments in the show that way, but it didn't matter as a kid. This content is so well-researched and well-produced. Great job.

As a 90s baby growing up watching many of the classic boomerang cartoons that they don't show on the channel now smh, this means so much to me. Coming from school with 4 bags of doritos back when they were 25 cent (miss those days) cartoon network and wb were the channels to watch. when I first saw Dragonball Z I was astounded. this was when Ocean Dub was showing on Cartoon Network. the Original Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball, Batman Animated Series, Batman Beyond. so many great shows of the past. I'm a proud 90s baby growing up in the 90s. The nostalgia

Cartoon Network: We're not gonna celebrate our anniversary this year except for that Museum we have that you probably won't see. Geekdom: I'm gonna make a video of the History of Dragon ball Z on Toonami while also giving a good history of Cartoon Network. Anyways I love this video. This and the Bruce Falconer video is one of your best yet.

Retro Gamer actually there was a surprise and possibly more surprises in store as we got a new clip of the 25th anniversary today
@retrogamer64037 жыл бұрын
A bumper doesn't mean much of anything especially when the 20th anniversary went above and beyond this one was a fucking snore feast and at this point Cartoon Network can't afford to surprise people when their viewer count is rock bottom.
@PkmnTrainerEmerald7 жыл бұрын
Retro Gamer well no if you take a look of their line on what's being shown I'd say they are making an effort to have variety because teen titans go is not being the main show that they're focusing on as there are other shows like Clarence, Ben 10, Ok ko. To name a few being in this week's schedule just sit back and enjoy. One other thing there is a movie of Billy and Mandy coming up a classic one and you should know that it's a real treat to see any of the earlier shows now a days.
@retrogamer64037 жыл бұрын
No Teen Titans Go is still their main focus Clarence is dead, nobody gaves a fuck about the Ben 10 reboot, and showing a movie doesn't mean jackshit when your own birthday was pretty much another typical day at work and since Cartoon Network's old fans has pretty much jump ship only peaking in just to see if it recover or not and CN's viewer base is still the lowest the company has faced in years Cartoon Network can't afford to not only do something on their birthday but give out halfasses surprises.
