This might sound really stupid but toonami actually saved my life..my friend came over my house and wanted me to go with him to some girl's house, usually I would say yes but I was like "hell no, DBZ is about to come on"..now this wasn't just any episode of Dragonball z. This was the first time in the US that Goku turned Super Saiyan against Freiza. I waited a long long time for this episode and I was not about to miss it..well he left my house and as he was driving, he made a U turn too quick and got hit by a semi..he survived but was in a coma for weeks but the passenger side where I would have sat was completely caved in..lucky me. Thanks toonami

Talks about Sailor Moon without mentioning monster of the week. Calls DBZ monster of the week right after. With the fillers, it felt a little monster of the week sometimes, but even then, it was never one week. Even Garlic Junior took up a fair share of time.
@schribbler15925 жыл бұрын
Yeah I cringed at that. She apparently hasn't seen DBZ in a long time. Kinda shocked no one corrected her. Dragon Ball hasn't resembled anything close to monster of the week since the beginning of Dragon Ball, then it quickly switched to Pilaf as an overarching villain, and kept some of the characters that would have been considered'a monster of the week. If anything GT would fit that formula a bit better in the beginning, but a person would still be stretching to call it a 'Monster of the Week' type show.

Toonami was for me as a teenager what Saturday morning cartoons were for me as a kid.I think with the previous generations before mine there wasn’t much in the way of good cartoon programming aimed pre teens and teens, which is why even Doug’s generation typically stopped watching cartoons and only came back later because of nostalgia or because they started watching it with their kids. While a lot of people I grew up with never stopped because there was enough quality and mature content that we didn’t merely think of cartoons as “kid’s stuff” and grow out of it.

Definitely Adult Swim. Late Saturday nights/very early Sunday mornings were AS's primary spot for anime at that point and these were some of its staples - Inuyasha in particular having a permanent two-episode slot at the tail end of the segment while other series would come and go. Over the years it also notably aired Big O, Samurai Champloo, Paranoia Agent, Eureka Seven, Scryed, and at least two Ghost in the Shell series.

@@marmik961 I just don't know how much I'd be into it. I'm not the biggest fan of battle manga, but the ones that I enjoy have a sense of strategy and smart thinking to them (like JoJo's Bizarre Adventure), but Dragon Ball just looks like "one guy hits the other guy harder because he is stronger and wins" over and over, just with the opponents getting stronger.
@marmik9612 жыл бұрын
@@Jordan3DS While it doesn't have that much in terms of strategy there are bits of it here and there. But it makes up for it by showing the stakes of certain fights the fate of the world or universe is at stake. There's also good animation, funny humor that's crude at times, imagination, and great characters. It's at least worth looking into.

They were also coming up on an hour they probably each picked a couple they really liked as well as the couple of juggernauts that you can't not know or have heard about. Let's face it some of the shows not mentioned are either very niche, are love it or hate it, or fall into the types of shows that take a bit of in depth understanding of anime and the style of story telling to get the best experience.

Nostalgia Critic should have a look back on Adult Swim shows. Now granted, it might not seem like nostalgia due to it being programming meant for late teens/adults but for many kids Adult swim was almost like a forbidden fruit to us.... One Friday night when your parents finally let you stay past 9pm, you just got done watching (insert cartoon here), you then see the screen cut to black, The adult swim warning pops up and you check the guide or flip a channel to see if you’re even still on Cartoon Network. You might heed the warning the first time and switch to Disney Channel or Nick at Night, but eventually you become interested and the next time it happens you ignore the warning. You are then met with bizarre channel bumpers and from the “no children in the pool” announcement, you feel a mix of anxiousness and fear as if you don’t belong there but at the same time you are excited. You felt almost wrong for watching it or if your parents walked in you’d get grounded on the spot. For a lot of us it was a TV puberty, and a turning point realizing that cartoons didn’t have to only be for kids. Some of us probably only started off with the syndicated fox shows and turned it off whenever there was an adult swim original show, while the badasses of our age group stayed up to watch robot chicken. It was part of growing up and it felt like an adventure, and I just spent 30 min trying to detail how it felt like watching adult swim as a child on the Nostalgia critic KZbin comment section no wonder Why I can’t find a girlfriend.

one thing that yall got wrong. the april fools day toonami marathon was not a sneek peek . it was infact originally a joke. the issue was . twitter crashed from the amount of people on twitter posting about it. i myself was part of a petition that started before the marathon even ended. . by the next morning when it was over the petition had over 250k signatures. in only 8 hours. they came back a week later and posted one little 5 second bumper on adult swim when it started saying they were listening so time to speak. by the ned of the month they had over 2.5 mill requests to have it return with new day anime. people evn started messaging steve blum asking him to help get the show back and he started campaigning saying hed return as the voice of tom if we did enough to get it back. then a few months later they said they had over 5 million requests to have the block return and so it did and got a bit bigger of a budget for better anime . in essence . toonami had more people request it come back than episodes of rick and morty get in viewers. as they only see about 2.5mill per episode.
