Undercover is one of the most important brands in the history of streetwear. In this episode, we’ll be taking a look at the brand’s founder, Jun Takahashi, and how he rose to the top of fashion industry. Among other things, we’ll discuss how he formed a friendship with Nigo, the founder of Bape, the journey to Paris Fashion Week, the mentorship he received from Rei Kawakubo along the way, some of his craziest collections, and also some of his collabs with brands like Nike and Supreme. This is the history of Undercover.

“When I was 20, Vivienne’s runway show with pieces of Sex, Seditionaries, and World’s End was held. I was a student at Bunka Fashion Collage then, and Hiroshi Fujiwara let me join that show as a model. At the end of the show, when Vivienne was about to greet everyone, she took my hand and started walking together to the end of the runway. I was astonished at that moment, but I felt great joy that the mother of punk took my hand. She made a movement called “punk”-connecting rebel music and fashion with Malcolm McLaren-and significantly influenced me. I hope to pass Vivienne’s punk spirit to the next generation in my way, even a little. Rest in peace.”- Jun Takahashi post Vivienne’s passing. AFFA also made a shirt inspired from what Jun was wearing on the runway that day, a bondage button up print on a t-shirt.

It's these types of backstories that give me a new found love for these brands and more importantly the designers behind them. I don't get that from many designers but Jun is definitely one of them. Great video!
