Surprised they didn't talk about how andrew Jackson nearly beat his attempted Assassin to death with a walking cane after the attempt failed
@sanuelkessler84355 ай бұрын
If I remember that correctly, it was only after both of the guns jammed that Jackson beat the guy with the cane.
@SighNaps4 ай бұрын
@@sanuelkessler8435 They didn't jam. Richard Lawrence tried to kill Jackson with a derringer. He fired it and the cap went off, but the powder didn't. He then pulled a second derringer and the same thing happened. These were single shot pistols that used percussion caps to ignite the powder so jamming wasn't a problem. Moisture was though and the weather that day was unusually damp and humid. Jackson then proceeded to beat the man with a walking cane until the crowd intervened and saw to Lawrence being arrested. He had a history of mental illness and was acquitted due to insanity. He was behaving so erratically at his trial, the jury only deliberated for 5 minutes before rendering a verdict. He eventually ended up in a place called the "Government Hospital For The Insane" where he stayed until his death in 1861.

Just a minor point on the Ronald Reagan assassination attempt. John Hinckley was obssessed by Jodie Foster due to her role in the film Taxi Driver, not Catcher in the Rye. In which the anti-hero Travis Bickle considers killing a Preidential Candidate before going off to free Jodie's character from a brothel instead.
@dwn060clownman5 ай бұрын
Wasn't Catcher in the Rye the obsession of the John Lennon shooter, Mark David Chapman?
@666johnco5 ай бұрын
@@dwn060clownman Yes their right on that one. Hinckley started off wanting to kill Carter to 'impress' Jodie Foster but 4 months in an asylum from mid October 1980 put a new target in his sights. BTW there was no comment by Jodie Foster about Reagan involved in this.
@infin8ee5 ай бұрын
@@dwn060clownmanyep he carried a copy around . Also paranoid schizophrenic .
@666johnco5 ай бұрын
@@dwn060clownman That is indeed the case, another correction on the discussion on that case. Hinckley did not target Reagan for anything Foster had said against him. When he set off initially on an attempt to kill a President in the fall of 1980, he was after Jimmy Carter. After trailing round the country following Carter 's re-election campaign, he ran out of money in Mid-October 1980. He returned home and his parents put him into a mental health institution for 4 months. Thats how the target became Reagan.

He forgot to mention the attempt on andrew jackson's life. That one was nuts, partially because it was a british guy who tried it, and he was taken down (partially by jackson himself, but also) by none other than congressman from Tennessee David Crockett.

@@eyeroll5060 there's an interesting thought. We now have video of POS running around on the roof in plain view.
