In the video, I noticed you called them "Master Rules" for each singular rule change. I'm glad that you fixed this mistake in this comment down here. "Master Rule" should be used for one of them in singular, while "Master Rules" should be used to describe a group of them in plural. This was something I just noticed recently myself, and wanted to spread awareness of this.

Link monsters are not a bad thing, it's good to have a monster that you can summon just by having 2-3 monsters on the field without caring for levels or Tunners. The problem was making your beloved old decks unusable, that was a bad call, and even pendulums(That i don't understand to this day because i never cared) didn't made all the old machanics obsolete. You could keep using any deck ignoring the mechanic. Link changed that and the new Master rule corrects it.
@kenzofromtheyu-gi-squad26014 жыл бұрын
José Manuel Konami created link monsters in attempt to slow down the game, but after a couple months when so many more good link monsters were released, it made the game even faster than before, so then, they created the new master rule to return back to before while still nerfing pendulums. The real problem mechanic

The “going first is advantageous” thing is always surprising to me, but that’s because I only play the duel links format where turn 2 is significantly stronger than turn 1. But it makes sense in the tcg format where there’s more life points and more options for negation and disruption.
@Ed-17492 жыл бұрын
The thing about going first is that you dont have to only rely on handtraps to interact with your opponent because you can set up your board with traps and monster effects, which generally undoes any advantage of going second if you play it right.

I'm sure other people have said it, but Magic the Gathering has always had a "15 cards or 0 cards" side deck, and it may be that yugioh followed this simply because "That's clearly what card games do". MtG's side deck rules include that you can be DQ'd from official games if your side deck doesn't contain 0 or 15, but they eventually changed it to allow people to add basic lands (which you may have any number of) to their side deck if they accidentally register an incomplete side deck at a tournament.

When Synchros came out I actually really liked the idea of Tuners being required for a summoning mechanic, Xyz is where I started to have a problem, Xyz just felt like Synchros without Tuners and if they were more generic and then Konami proved me wrong by making Links which were VERY generic to a game-breaking point and you cannot deny that considering how many Links ended up banned. Synchros and Pendulums are objectively the most unique and balanced Extra Deck mechanics added (Pendulums were NOT balanced at the time they were added, but they are now).

Synchro is actually a big part of the reason why I stopped playing. I was 13 at the time, and basically no one I knew still played the game, but I still liked it and went to local tournaments occasionally. Then, syncrhos came out, along with the new anime that I really didn't like at the time (and still don't, playing yugioh while you're driving a motorcyle is both the edgiest and the dumbest twist to the formula I can think of), and thats where I was like "yeah, ok, maybe yugioh isn't for me anymore".

When it came to synchros I only really used Stardust dragon when they came out because I always used a primarily dragon deck. Whether it was Blue-Eyes or Red-Eyes I always tried to build a deck that best complimented them with what cards I had in middle school. Which Stardust was not one but it was still there for emergencies with the broken trap card Scrap-Iron Scarecrow
@___i3ambi1264 жыл бұрын
I was only a kid at the time, but i remember synchros being beyond busted when they came out. This was the first strategy type that didnt have to draw or search very specific cards to get out a specific board, and could even use the same cards in hand to get out different options based on what you needed for the situation. So where old decks would need to play as many of their core strategy cards as possible to hope to draw into and would need to draw counters/outs every time they needed them, these new decks could just run a full list of tuners and non-tuners that combo well together so they could practically always open their best ending monsters and perfect outs. This inherent advantage meant synchros/tuners would have needed to be complete garbage as individual cards to not completely outclass everything else at the time. I personally like this shift now since it made yugioh so much more consistent and gave the turn player so many more options, but id say that masterrule change is the largest shift yugioh has ever had.

I've always liked Yu-Gi-Oh, but never actually had the cards to play it. Hearing about the "change" to Field mechanics had me scratching my head, thinking, "wait, that's not how it always was?" Season 1 of the anime had some bizarre situations and rulings for sure, but just look at the duel between Yugi and Mako. Yugi's half of the field was rock, Mako's half was ocean. Seems logical to me, since both players have a field card zone. What EXACTLY was so hard to comprehend about that?

I think MR4 was meant to slow the game down, and it succeeded at that, only until they started releasing Link monsters good enough to act as combo tools and endboards on their own. That meant Synchro, Fusion, and Xyz strategies were left way behind in terms of speed and versatility. So MR5 isn't necessarily a better designed ruleset (like how pendulums zones were fixed in 4), but it was a necessary change nonetheless.

I think the problem with MOST and emphasis on the word most not all pendulum monsters/cards is that Konami made them work not as a new mechanic but as one big very synergistic archetype Look at Pepe's and pend magicians or mythical beasts and endemion and cards from metalfoes and Qlis and Zefra cards somehow some way ALMOST every pendulum card was good in almost every pure pendulum deck and decks that didn't synergies with the all of the rest it wasn't good enough to be competitive especially compared to its tier0 counter parts And the only good "pendulum" deck that strayed away for the crowd was DDD and it's entirely pendulum focused however it shows what pendulum should have need ( a supporting mechanic to help main mechanics ) And that is what I think the problem with pendulums was .

I wouldn't say 'all'; most get ignored, like the entirety of the Dinomist archetype, or every magispecter besides Unicorn. But enough to make a deck. One single deck, that is the only competitive deck to use the mechanic.

One thing I found strange about the tcg's approach to master rule 4 was the card pool. The ocg released the link vrains pack to help older decks keep up. The tcg released most of those cards years later in duel overload. By then, master rule 2020 had come into effect so there was no point

I really enjoyed this video d! I came back into the game a little bit before MR5 and or I finally stopped playing like way before the first elemental hero cards came 😂 but now I understand yugioh today. But with such a time gap between when I stopped and got back into a lot had changed and I was always curious about when certain changes took place, for example that each player could have a field spell active at the same time. So I really enjoyed this video because it filled me in on all the master rule changes and when new gameplay mechanics came into the game. This video is a 10/10 and if I ever come across someone that’s curious like I was I’m definitely going to show them this video 👍🏻

Trap Monsters not tying up their originating S/T Zone also didn't come up

The easiest way to explain synchro to people that thought it would kill the game was to tell them it was like fusion summoning but without needing poly.

Im a kid and i started yugioh in 2015. I LOVED the game and i learnt all the summons very quickly. Master rule 4 is ok i guess but it really takes the fun out of the game. I miss summoning my extra deck cards anywhere and setting the pendulum scale without havjng to worry about my spell and trap zones. Im still into yugioh but i really prefer master rule 3 and i play causally at home with that format. I remember when i got yuya's deck and duelling my brother (he had a deck of cards thrown together) and i just had a blast. Im not gonna say Link summoning ruined yugioh as a whole but i will say it took some fun out of the game.

Dzeeff, I watch long form stuff on KZbin all the time. 30 minutes was fine. Still, the timestamps are appreciated.
