I, too, consider The Lord of the Rings to be one movie. What I don't agree with is the hate that Gandalf says Bilbo hasn't aged a day. I take that to mean he hasn't aged since last Gandalf saw him, not necessarily between the times of The Hobbit and Fellowship. It stands to reason these friends have visited a few times during that 60 year gap.

Jeremy, your reviews rock. Its great to find someone that actually cares about quality, artistry, and story in film, not just "I like it because its what I always like." Keep on! And the Hobbit trailer made me cry. The LOTR films are just. that. awesome.

You are the most entertaining reviewer out there, you review so many things, you are down to earth about it and are just awesome in general. The thing about is that you're like the actual people's critic cause people can actually relate to you, not like peter travers or roger ebert who thinks that they're opinion matters more cause they're "professional". So massive props to you! Oh btw's please review the Prometheus trailer.

@TheDrYes I'm denying what it did for literature and entertainment. just saying I feel oddly disconnected from it. I don't get the huge connection people feel with the films. it's a matter of taste. I'm not dissing what it's accomplished, I respect the films: just don't enjoy them as much as so many others seem 2

My very scant knowledge is that Sauron is only mentioned very briefly/if at all in the Hobbit (as the necromancer in mirkwood). The rebirth/return to power of Sauron was mainly mentioned in additional materials that JRR Tolkien wrote to fit the Hobbit story in with the overall middle earth chronology. Long story short: Sauron returns/reforms as the Necromancer in Mirkwood, he is discovered and flees/leaves to Mordor before the start of Lord of the Rings, wizards are involved.

@Choman i'm pretty sure the elves live in Rivendell (granted it's been 10 years since i've read the hobbit) i would assume that the elvenking's cavern would also be there. i admit i could have easily been confused as a 7th grader at the time. anyway.. quick wikipedia search notes that in The Hobbit, they do stop in Rivendell once on the way to their destination, and once on the way back.

Also, it didn't have that many action scenes (only 4 major fights (Aragorn vs Nazgûl, battle in Moria, Gandalf vs. Balrog and the fight against the the Uruk Hai). The later LotR movies had way too many huge battles that took up the majority of the time. Plus, a major character actually dies in The Fellowship. Who dies in TT and RotK? Theoden, but that's it. Gladiator had one huge battle and a few fights, but that was it. RS didn't go all out with war, which he could've. And it worked fine.

In the books, it says multiple times that Sauron was able to take physical form, but his physical form was much weaker without the ring then with it. The Necromancer was one of Saurons physical forms and he took on that form so he could regain his power without anyone knowing he had returned. If he had gone right away to Mordor, then all of Middle Earth would have know he had returned. Also, even though he was weakened without the Ring,in he was still powerful enough to scare people off.

Who doesn't just absolutely LOVE The Lord of the Rings series? When I was about 6 I seriously was a Lord of the Rings fanatic! Every time I watch one I just feel good. I also get a HUGE feeling of nostalgia. I loved the part in the Two Towers when Sam gives that whole speech of why to keep going and what we are doing this for. The series is very inspirational and anyone who hates it can just dig a hole and live in it!

@WackyFunkMunster Its a prequel. This is based off the book The Hobbit (of course, by JRR Tolkien) which talks about Bilbo's journey with the dwarves that was briefly mentioned in the Fellowship of the Ring. Bilbo will be on a journey with the dwarves to reclaim dwarven treasure currently held by an evil dragon called Smaug. This book introduces the Ring of Power and Gollum.

I have been watching the 10 Years Anniversy of LOTR on Encore. All 3 EE versions & reagular versions of the movie all month long. Howard Shore once again knows how to create great EPIC music. The trailer is visually stunning & the effects aren't even finished. I think at the end these movies will look even better than RINGS.

@jeremalaria Got it all wrong... first, it's Rivendell, not rivendale (felt like Hermione there XD) and second the barrel escape wasn't from Rivendell, but the cavern of the Elvenking.
