This song holds so much emotion for me😪 Four beautiful men who died in their prime. God bless Pete, Johnny and Mike🌱😔💗🙏🕊🙏💗😔🌱🇦🇺

I have loved this song and its message since I first heard it in 1969. I taught it to my third graders at Holy Ghost Catholic School in Albuquerque for the 1992 Christmas program, and as we were leaving the front of the church, the parish priest took me aside and told it was his very favorite song. I'll be 78 this November, and "He Ain't Heavy" is still on my rather long list of favorite songs.

When I was young getting to "there" was quite different and mostly short sighted. Now that I'm older and have realized what "there" really means, the responsibility we all have to each other in this life becomes truly necessary. Thanks to Allan Clarke and the Hollies for such a beautiful soul wrenching message.

I too did not understand the meaning of this song back in 69 but as I spent more and more time in my 20 year Air Force career, the meaning became as clear as a bell. Whether you are in the military, police force, a firefighter or just have fought for justice where tyranny needs to be overcome, you bond with others in a common cause to the point where you become that close, as close as brothers. When you are in the middle of a bad situation and you have a wounded member, you have no problem carrying your brother to safety. You'll do anything for your brothers and that's what this song means to me.
