@@haydnharvey3800 there is one gimmick on the studio recording at the 3rd bar you will hear the guitar solo is recorded backwards for 3 bars The Beatles did this this on Revolver I'm only sleeping George took 2 days to play and record the solo in reverse. No tape gimmick there. Marmalade just did a reverse edit hence a gimmick. 😜 Still an awesome tune by real musicians.

Dean Ford - Wikipedia Dean Ford (born Thomas McAleese; 5 September 1945 - 31 December 2018) was a Scottish singer and songwriter best known for his tenure as lead vocalist and frontman of the beat pop group Marmalade from 1966 to 1974. "Reflections of My Life" has sold more than two million units globally, and in 1998 the writers were awarded a Special Citation of Achievement by BMI for attaining radio broadcast performances in excess of one million in the U.S. alone. Death Ford died in Los Angeles on 31 December 2018, at the age of 73 from complications relating to Parkinson's disease. His death was announced by his daughter, Tracey McAleese-Gorman, who described him as 'a gentle soul and great father'. His daughter died less than two years later in November 2020 in London. I am a 51 years metal-fan. Listens mostly to all melodic metal from the 90's, till new stuff. Pop-music now a days has no soul like it had in the 60's and 70's.

I have read so many interviews with famous songwriters who have cited this song as one they wish they had written. This is such an easy song to screw up live and this incredible band from Scotland (YEAH!!) just nails it! Bless all of them and thank you for sharing your incredible talent.

Wow, excellent vocals. Love it. And the guitarist on the left is playing a right handed strung guitar. All is down strums are done in reverse, strumming up. Very interesting.

Great band. The guitar solo is spot on except where it is recorded backwards on the studio version but he still makes that part sound almost as good. Kudos.

15 dislikes is 15 heartless and stupid people! They do a remarkable job capturing the spirit of this song in concert and Junior Campbell nails the guitar solo! Very hard to do as on the record half the solo is backwards tapes. Dean Ford is an astonishingly good vocalist his real name is Thomas MacAleese and Junior is William Campbell. They wrote this song for a lot of reasons most of them centered around Vietnam and the start of the tragic war in Northern Ireland. War is not a necessary evil it's a plague that has swept over the earth since the beginning of mankind. We may never learn to end the vicious cycle, but we have songs like "Reflections Of My Life" from people who care like The Marmalade!

+Benjamin Blake Mitchner My favorite line in this song is "the world is a sad place, a bad place, a terrible place to live but I don't wanna die. I was about 13 at the time and immediately thought about Vietnam when I heard that line. I didn't know at the time if I would end up there or not. As far as those 15 dislikes I guess they're entitled to their opinion and we're entitled to tell them they're stupid and heartless.
@SuperBenblake9 жыл бұрын
***** Yes that's right an opinion is just an opinion and they can have it. When I first heard this song I thought of Vietnam too and what was going on in Kosovo when I first heard it back in 1999.
@MichaelCrutcher9 жыл бұрын
+Benjamin Blake Mitchner Campbell had a distinct unique style of guitar playing, whereby he played left-handed, with the strings upside down, right hand strung - tuned to "open E".
@SuperBenblake9 жыл бұрын
Michael Crutcher Just added you to my friends, mate! Campbell got his sound that way- wow! I never got into weird alternate tunings and you make me think I should have. I wish that I had stuck with more melodic playing that later years where it all became about playing so fast that it was incongruous sounding. Marmalade is special, but no Dean Ford means not real it means diluted Marmalade! I don't mind those songs, but with Dean and Campbell gone and Sandy Newman I was disappointed by their material.

Came across this gem of a song while searching for a rap song called marmalade for my young son. I was -1 when this was recorded and it resonates and haunts me with nostalgia for the 1970’s a time that I barely recall. Beautiful song, I hope others continue to discover it in decades to come.

Great live rendition with exquisite vocals. Have to say, I prefer this version of the song pared down without the strings and horns -- simpler and cooler. If you like this, check out the 2015 version with Dean Ford/Joe Tansin. Dean Ford's voice is amazing and it's a beautiful arrangement.
