Reflections of my Life...1970 53 years ago....To listen to the song now in 2023....Very reflective of my life, the people I knew that are now gone, the places I have traveled, so many memories...I am so thankful for what KZbin has available for us. I spend so much time here listening to memories...so many reflections...for a fleeting moment I am back with all those memories....Rest In Peace Dean Ford...You are sadly missed...

I was in my late teens when the song came out . My high school sweetheart had passed away. I joined the military and end up in Vietnam. This song haunted my heart for years to come. I later married and the song still haunted me. Last week I buried my wife And the song continues to haunt me. This song should be a pledge to all the persons friends family loves that we've lost in our lives to keep their memories alive within us.

@@haydnharvey3800 there is one gimmick on the studio recording at the 3rd bar you will hear the guitar solo is recorded backwards for 3 bars The Beatles did this this on Revolver I'm only sleeping George took 2 days to play and record the solo in reverse. No tape gimmick there. Marmalade just did a reverse edit hence a gimmick. 😜 Still an awesome tune by real musicians.

The guitar solo on the single was done by backmasking, i.e. recording it one way and then playing the tape backwards. Actually, I did miss the strings and the horns.
@Trans909 Жыл бұрын
@@fj40sjc79 Yeah, me too. This is very stark and open, not lush like the record. I've heard acoustic versions that are even simpler--but they still have a terribly wistful quality, that sense of loved things gone forever, opportunities vanished like mist. It breaks my heart when ever I hear it, regardless of the version. One of those songs that came from deep inside, y'know? There's always that ONE song that absolutely captures the perfect snapshot of something we can't describe in mere words.

Hola.

Great live rendition with exquisite vocals. Have to say, I prefer this version of the song pared down without the strings and horns -- simpler and cooler. If you like this, check out the 2015 version with Dean Ford/Joe Tansin. Dean Ford's voice is amazing and it's a beautiful arrangement.

I love this song. I was 10 years old when it was on the radio. These guys were so talented. Please notice that the left handed lead guitarist plays totally upside down. Most left handers followed J. Hendrix and played left facing but they almost all invert the strings, but this guys plays completely upside down. I think it lends a bit of originality because note choices will necessarily be different when the standard patterns are not in play. What good memories.

15 dislikes is 15 heartless and stupid people! They do a remarkable job capturing the spirit of this song in concert and Junior Campbell nails the guitar solo! Very hard to do as on the record half the solo is backwards tapes. Dean Ford is an astonishingly good vocalist his real name is Thomas MacAleese and Junior is William Campbell. They wrote this song for a lot of reasons most of them centered around Vietnam and the start of the tragic war in Northern Ireland. War is not a necessary evil it's a plague that has swept over the earth since the beginning of mankind. We may never learn to end the vicious cycle, but we have songs like "Reflections Of My Life" from people who care like The Marmalade!

+Benjamin Blake Mitchner My favorite line in this song is "the world is a sad place, a bad place, a terrible place to live but I don't wanna die. I was about 13 at the time and immediately thought about Vietnam when I heard that line. I didn't know at the time if I would end up there or not. As far as those 15 dislikes I guess they're entitled to their opinion and we're entitled to tell them they're stupid and heartless.
@SuperBenblake9 жыл бұрын
***** Yes that's right an opinion is just an opinion and they can have it. When I first heard this song I thought of Vietnam too and what was going on in Kosovo when I first heard it back in 1999.
@MichaelCrutcher9 жыл бұрын
+Benjamin Blake Mitchner Campbell had a distinct unique style of guitar playing, whereby he played left-handed, with the strings upside down, right hand strung - tuned to "open E".
@SuperBenblake8 жыл бұрын
Michael Crutcher Just added you to my friends, mate! Campbell got his sound that way- wow! I never got into weird alternate tunings and you make me think I should have. I wish that I had stuck with more melodic playing that later years where it all became about playing so fast that it was incongruous sounding. Marmalade is special, but no Dean Ford means not real it means diluted Marmalade! I don't mind those songs, but with Dean and Campbell gone and Sandy Newman I was disappointed by their material.
