I was abused as a child and was suffering from mental problems since young age. I recall it like yesterday that my brother would comfort me and sing this to me! An amazing man he is 😢 no matter what he goes through in life, he continues to be there to support me and lift me up whenever I’m down. I love you so much big bro - truly blessed to have u in my life! 💓

Dusti, I can totally relate. My brother and I were the only one left out of our family. His wife had passed 4 years earlier and they never had children. I was the only one that he would let help him. He was a brittle diabetic, besides the fact that he was 6’10” and 425lbs and pretty much had given up after losing his wife of 19. He was my little brother. Mom always said he was my present for my birthday. I have had so many panic attacks over the the last 2 years (his memorial service was 2 years ago yesterday) waking up in a cold sweat thinking what would he have done had I gone first. He had no one to help him with anything. I know it didn’t happen but I still have the ‘What if’s?’

Angry Cat : I fully agree my friend a very meaningful and moving song. A friend once said he didn’t like it because he didn’t get along with his brother but I said it didn’t necessarily have to be about your actual brother. It could be about a friend or maybe a teammate. I think he walked away with a different perspective of the the song after that.

I sing this song to my brother whenever I am with him when he's down and weak, see my brother is dying of leukemia and bladder cancer and he has a wife that is 8 weeks pregnant and 4 children living at home and 2 that are in their late 20's and early 30's . My brother is trying to hang on to see all his children graduate high school and I'm so proud of my brother for everything he has done with his life. That's why I sing this song to my brother whenever I can. I love my brother so much to the Heaven and back.

My brother had a bad accident. He is in the hospital, not doing good. He is my baby brother, the kindest soul you would ever want to meet.his wife left him while he is struggling to survive.his two sons never went to see him. But I will never ever leave him. I was there everyday for him, feeding him caressing his hurt forehead and telling him I love you brother. People couldn't find time to see him. I cried the first time I saw him there but I caught myself, so as he wouldn't, notice. His own family abandoned him, but I never will, just as God, our sweet Lord Never will leave his side or anyone. And no, he ain't heavy! Love to everyone who is going through the same thing.

I took care of my sick Brother and then my precious very sick husband with unconditional love, as my Lord gave me His strength. Sadly, when my husband passed, I had to pick up my husband's ashes. The Director put his container on the table. When I went to pick him up, he told me that it was heavy, be careful. I looked at him and said: He ain't heavy Sir; he's my husband. 😢 The director then sat down and tears came down his face. We need this same type of unconditional love in our Country; today.

@@josephcallahan1208 She needs counselling, or some realistic way to get a grip on the loss and go through the grieving process. Religion only offers a fantasy that people don't really buy, even if they're clinging to it, because otherwise death would be the best possible thing that could happen to a person, and there wouldn't be a reason to mourn.

Lost my best friend of 50 years on Dec 21 2022. He passed immediately after heart surgery. We met in 1973 when we were 14 years old. Did alot of stuff together during our lifetime. Partied like crazy during the 70's. Ha. His name was Dave Bryan. God blessed me with the greatest friend anyone could possibly have. He was more like a brother than a friend. This song is for you Dave. See ya when God almighty takes me home, buddy.

You could say it's Taoist if you like. A true master dwells within the Tao, the dark enigma, the mysterious generative cycle that rises and falls without regard. He is nobody, and is therefore available to everybody. Use him. He is never depleted, for there is nobody to deplete. I'm roughly paraphrasing, but you get the point. A strong person or master would not consider the suffering of mankind a personal burden, because he has conquered his ego. Thus he is able to truly help.

When my baby brother was dying, his doctor said, to me: "I know you're a nurse ,but, family 's different, can you handle it?" I knew it was trite, I knew/know, what people would, and will say ,because I said the same to myself. ...but It was the only thing to say. I said "He's my brother!" For the first time in my nursing career I saw a tear run down a doctors face. I tried to block this song from my thinking mind because ,well,a pop song !!! Then I remembered the picture which inspired song . This song is iconic because it speaks to a fundamental truth within us all.

It was never a burden to have a big brother with special needs. It was hard, cause I learned the world was cruel, and I learned what worry really was, long before the kids my age. But he was never a burden. I learned more from him than anyone else. I wouldn't be who i am without him. Its been 8 years since he passed away. Its harder to walk this path of life without him. I miss you brother. Every day. Love you Dannyboy.

My Sister, Brother and I played this song in his funeral and we meant every word. I miss him so much and wish he was still here with us. Miss you big bro, I hope all the pain has now gone and you are happy once more, till we meet again xxx

Such a beautiful amazing song I fell in love with hearing it at work, my coworker was chopping veggies and she’s playing this on her phone, a few of us were in the back since we had downtime and just started dancing and laughing and talking. It was fun and beautiful. I’m thankful for this amazing and fun wild life I have even with all my downfalls I still shine.

I can see how this song reminds people of someone they lost. I think that might have been the artist's purpose. When I hear this song, it reminds me of the days before social media. It's about a genuine sense of community and obligation to the people around us. Our community and social circle used to be the people who.were sitting right next to us. And if we needed them, they were there to carry us no matter how long the road was, or the uncertainty of where it lead. Try messaging one of the million friends you have when you need a ride to a chemo session and see If they show up. And the worst part is that we miss out on time with family and real friends because we're too busy posting to the ass circus on Instagram. I've seen mothers walking their kids to school while they're clicking away on the phone. This was a time when my mom and I used to have thoughtful, funny conversations. To me, this song is about human connections and it reminds me of a lack thereof today. There was a time that even when you wanted to hurt someone, you had to look them in the eyes to do it and it trested your compassion. Now we do it anonymously from miles away and we feel nothing so we keep at it until we drive the poor souls over the edge. Or we leave our spouse and kids because we connected with an old flame from high school and see a few faint sparks. I was in my late 20's when social media reached its ascension, but I never really saw the point. I'm technologically savvy but have never had a FB, Instagram, Snapchat, or Twitter account. I only want to share my life with the people in it so I am satisfied with email, texting, calling, and that ridiculous thing we used to do, before we were glued to our couches like they were command centers, where we knocked on somebody's door and paid them a visit. That's what the wistful harmonica at the beginning, the vocals that rise above the music, the simple tune, and the soulful singing style remind me of. I hope I don't sound elitist, because that was not my intention at all. I was just observing a change that I genuinely feel has had a negative effect on our civilization/society.

bwanna23 the music was written by Bobby Scott, who also wrote A Taste of Honey. The lyrics are by Bob Russell, who had a long career writing songs for movies. Probably his most famous collaborations were with jazz great Duke Ellington, “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore” and “Do Nothin’ Til You Hear From Me.” In my opinion, though, his finest collaboration with Ellington is the lesser known “I Didn’t Know About You.” Listen to this exquisite recording of it by Ella Fitzgerald: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oV68Yqtqq5uNfK8 “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother” was the last set of lyrics Russell ever wrote. He died of lymphoma shortly after finishing the song.

Brenda Ruscigno Amen! All the glory to God. Jesus told us to love each other. If only we would all listen and follow Him. This song, though I know it is speaking of brotherly love, was dedicated to me around 1975 when I was ten years old by my oldest brother who is ten years older than me. It was the one time he ever spoke sentimentally to me in my life, really. He was driving me somewhere in his truck and this song came on and he said "I dedicate this song to YOU, Rick.". I thought about it maybe a few times since then, but these past couple of days I've been pretty tired out. I recently developed some skin issues that make me itch greatly and one that is contagious, a staph infection. I am the sole caretaker of that brother I mentioned and our 88 year old mother. Both are crippled, my mom is bedridden and my brother is in a wheelchair. I've been really nerve wracked over it having the skin problems, afraid to give them a staph infection!! I don't get paid, exactly, to help them but my basic needs are met, so that's good enough for me. But God brought this song to my mind yesterday (and today) and I think it was to encourage me but also to remind me that my brother would have done the same for me, if the shoe had been on the other foot. He is reminding me BEFORE I get to thinking the wrong way, like being unhappy with the situation or something. It's been four and a half years since her stroke that made her crippled. My mom certainly deserves all the care in the world, she hallways been so good to us all. And they both are great patients, except my brother is a picky eater, having eaten in restaurants so much in his life! 😬 Anyway, your comment was the first I saw that mentioned Jesus, and I appreciate that. People wonder why this world is the way it is, and it's simple--they ignore God or do worse, actively behave opposite of His ways. Lately, I've been putting on most all of my comments the statement in the quotes below at the end of this reply. It's my way to present what I've learned to others. IF they want to hear it, they can click on it. Thanks for your comment. God bless you. ☺️🙏 "Want to know who REALLY runs the world? Check out this playlist. It's a series and should be seen in order but one can skip around and hear one that appeals to their particular curiosity first. All that is said is supported with verifiable documentation as it is presented. ☺️🙏. kzbin.info/aero/PLdbXyyVfVp-6TTHXK9aiIoFcBWWH59esb. "

DAMN, THIS SONG brings me memories of my faithful dog, BLACK, who died out of age related complications two years ago, he began to lose control of his limbs during some strange seizures in which he walked around the house, as in a trance, until i stopped him and laid him to rest...i used to walk him in a big place i have with trees and grass he loved since he was a puppy along with LAIKA and CANELA, but at the end of the walk, we had to climb a big stair upwards, so i carried him in my arms, and this song came to my mind and i sang it for him, he laided his head on my shoulder and together got home, this lasted for two months until he could not sleep because of the seizures, vet could not do much to hel him, so i had to put him to rest for good... days later, i found myself climbing those stairs again singing this song again and, for a moment, felt his presence in my arms ,which were in the same position that i carried him home and for the fist time since he died, let my feeling of loss to show...thinking to myself, i never felt his weight when i carried him , i was always eager to do it, just for him, for both of us... thanks for sharing this masterpiece, man....

Beautiful thing to write my friend. Very symbolic meaning some music has!! And to add to the person, and there life experiences which can make one relate to a certain song or music. And to personally harness those feelings and emotionally engage them to a time when it resonates in yourself is a special feeling. I too am an animal lover, (especially a dog lover) And I get it. Was nice nearly finishing a beautiful bottle of red, listening to this, while reading a beautiful but heart breaking story.

Always reminds me of my older brother. As a kid he took the blame for my younger brothers accidental vandalism(he kicked a stone and it smashed a window) and because he was older than us and had a job he paid for it though he was only about 16/17 himself. Sometimes he would take the blame from our dad when me or my little bro where too terrified (he was a scary guy) and take beatings for us. Three of us shared a bedroom and he would make us laugh as we fell asleep lol. I should appreciate him more, maybe that's why this song makes me sad?
