This clip is a fully edited composite of very rare footage of the Hollies recording "On A Carousel" in the legendary Abbey Road Studios in 1967. This was cut from a 20-minute piece which features each of the band members recording their individual parts on that historic day, when in the next studio the Beatles were recording pieces of "Penny Lane". The Reelin In The Years Archive contains hours of live performances, interviews, b-roll and more from many of the great artists of the British Invasion incuding the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Kinks, the Animals, Gerry & the Pacemakers, the Searchers, the Zombies, Dusty Springfield, Herman's Hermits, Freddie & the Dreamers, Billy J. Kramer & the Dakotas, Manfred Mann, and many, many more.
This clip can also be seen on our British Invasion: The Hollies- Look Through Any Window 1963-1975 DVD. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005...
Reelin' In The Years Productions houses the world's largest library of music footage, containing over 20,000 hours of material covering nearly every genre from the last 60 years. We have live concerts, TV appearances, interviews, in-studio segments, b-roll and more. In addition to music we have thousands of hours of interviews with the most recognizable celebrities, comedians, politicians, athletes, artists and authors of the 20th Century. I spent the 90’s living out my obsession with the 1960’s. I was 16 in 1990. From 1990 until 1999 i grew my hair , walked about a town in Scotland called livingston wearing mostly vintage clothing, paisley shirts , beads cords , flared jeans of different colours and velvet trousers, beatle boots, suede jackets , velvet jackets … the list goes on . Lots of denim shirts from the early 70’s. My basic look was based on 1967 . I still love all this music deeply age 50 in 2024. I was still rocking the fashions in the early 2000’s polka dot shirts ect . Now i’m just short haired boring and sometimes i miss those dazes. But i’ve got the music. Straight to heaven in 67’

Man, Nash gave them that extra vocal dimension. A gifted voice as we would find out with CSN&Y.

CSN wouldn't have been successful without Nash, both Crosby and Stills realized this right from the start when Cass Elliot introduced Nash to the others. They were having difficulty with a certain song, and Nash jumped in with the harmonies and that solved everything. Still, The Hollies did quite well for themselves when Terry Sylvester came in to replace Nash.

I keep coming back to this video. Just how much talent was in that group is often underrated. Bobby Elliott, up there with the best drummers of all time and Tony Hicks who could play anything with strings. I also think that Bernie Calvert doesn't get enough recognition. A piano player who switched to playing bass.

This is definitely my favorite Hollies song. This song always reminds me of Spring. Putting on a windbreaker and go to Kiddie Land with my parents on the weekend. God, what fun. Fun fact: The Hollies, at one time, had a fanzine called "The Carousel". Perhaps that's why you can hear Allan, Graham and Tony sing "On a carousel" and "on the carousel" during the chorus. Love Bobby's drums on this track as well.
