Here's the two lovely mischievous Dublin Ireland born angels of song The Holohan Sisters singing a medley of two songs from the Irish folk canon" I'll Tell Me Ma" & "Mairi's Wedding" Jane is a singer and Jenny is a singer and guitarist and together they create harmonies to die for.At the time I recorded them for my archive in the summer of 1996 they were both living in West Hampstead London working as Nannies. I haven't been able tio contact them much since then, but apparently they now both reside in Belfast Northern Ireland and are still singing together.Alas no more up to date information about them apart from my own entries here at youtube etc seems available via google. Jane's daughter Emir Holohan Doyle who is half Jordanian won the Miss Ireland competition in 1999 she is a chip off the old block in the beauty department with her mother Jane.
I'll Tell Me Ma" (also called "The Wind") is a well known children's song. It was collected in various parts of England in the 19th century and again appears in collections from shortly after the turn of the 20th century.[1] In Ireland the chorus usually refers to Belfast city and is known colloquially as "The Belle of Belfast City", although it is also adapted to other Irish cities, such as Dublin.[2] English versions refer to the "Golden City" or "London City". This song is Roud Folk Song Index number 2649.
The song accompanies a children's game. A ring is formed by the children joining hands, one player standing in the centre. When asked, "Please tell me who they be," the girl in the middle gives the name or initials of a boy in the ring (or vice versa). The ring then sings the rest of the words, and the boy who was named goes into the centre.
Mairi's Wedding (also known as Marie's Wedding, the Lewis Bridal Song, or Mairi Bhan) is a Scottish folk song originally written in Gaelic by John Roderick Bannerman (1865--1938) for Mary C. MacNiven (1905--1997) on the occasion of her winning the gold medal at the National Mod in 1934. In 1959, James B. Cosh devised a Scottish country dance to the tune, which is 40 bars, in reel time.

Lyrics I'll Tell Ma: Tell me ma when I go home The boys won't leave the girls alone They pull my hair, they stole my comb But that's all right till I go home She is handsome, she is pretty She is the belle of Belfast city She is a-courting one two three Pray, would you tell me who is she Albert Mooney says he loves her All the boys are fighting for her Knock at the door and they ring that bell Oh my true love, are you well Out she comes as white as snow Rings on her fingers and bells on her toes Old Jenny Murray says she will die If she doesn't get the fella with the roving eye Tell me ma when I go home The boys won't leave the girls alone They pull my hair, they stole my comb But that's all right till I go home She is handsome, she is pretty She is the belle of Belfast city She is… Maris wedding: Step we gaily, on we go Heel for heel and toe for toe Arm in arm and row on row All for Mairi's wedding Step we gaily, on we go Heel for heel and toe for toe Arm in arm and row on row All for Mairi's wedding Over hillways up and down Myrtle green and bracken brown Past the shielings through the town All for sake of Mairi Step we gaily, on we go Heel for heel and toe for toe Arm in arm and row on row All for Mairi's wedding Red her cheeks as rowans are Bright her eyes as any star Fairest of them all by far Is our darling Mairi Step we gaily, on we go Heel for heel and toe for toe Arm in arm…

The real Mary too was to commemorate her winning gold at the National Mód with the exception of it being written originally in 1934 by John Bannerman entirely in Gáidhlig, was least by the 1960s translated into English (forgot his first name) by Sir Robertson this is Mary for real though kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2LapYlqgJyBb9U
