Sam, I admire your self driven obligation to keep these trucks on the road. Do not ever be discouraged when deciding to upload 2nd gen dodge, any dodge cummins truck content. We have a very similar passion for these trucks. Im in the east in alabama but saving for a LRG NV5600 rebuild. I have a ext cab 02 24v HO NV56 4x4 drw 4wheel disc truck with almost 400,000 miles on the original drive train. Bought it during peak covid pricing from a chevy dealer in muscle shoals alabama w/ 364,xxx miles and ALL original down to the hoses, hydroboost, dealer relocated block fuel pump and original vp44.... Truck was a disaster operation wise but it was all there and all trying to function. I have resealed most of the engine and put clutch/hydraulics/flywheel, rear main, engine seals, hydro boost,vacuum pump, ps hoses and pump, ac compressor, belt drive accessories, brakes, rotors...and who knows what other small wear and tear stuff. But i wanted to say the HX35W turbo my truck has factory is very impressive for a stock 2nd gen. Ive driven a 01 auto with the hy turbo like yours and it was such a gutless turd i dont comprehend how they ever sold an automatic late 2nd gen. Im thinking about making a few videos and seeing if any interest in the history of my rigs. I buy to keep and dont have but the 1 aforementioned cummins so far but i have 5 other gas 2nd gen dodges i want to restore and show progress on. Look forward to more of your dodge content. Thank you so much

I really like the 01 Sport, and especially with that trans in it! Only a dually would be cooler! I'm 72 now and partly disabled, so there is no more building trucks for me. If I found one, I'd put a bed rug and matching glass cap, so I could use it to haul guitars to and from guitar shows. 8) Shhh, don't tell my Silverado!! LOL 8) Peace --gary

Just bought a 96 Dually 12v back in August. Living in Wisconsin, this is a Montana truck- zero rust. Will keep this gem in the garage throughout winter. Cloth intact, no dashboard cracks, AC functional. Love, love, love this truck. Only 9k at 240k miles.

Undercoat it with something like Fluid Film, even not driving in winter you'll still fight rust over time.

You could still get a non quad cab extended cab through 2001. The quad cab was always an option. It’s not common but they are around. I’ve seen quite a few for sale on marketplace. I also remember seeing them new on the lot. My mom was the dealership comptroller for our local Dodge dealer my whole childhood through the early 2000’s.

Between the 3 “holy grail” trucks you got, my fave would have to be the ‘01 24 valve truck. One thing I’m dying to know about your grandmother’s truck is this- did you ever find out what was causing the 24v engine you had put in it initially to keep malfunctioning? If not, I’d love to see you do a teardown of that engine and see if you find out that way

The 12 valve is the one that everyone wants but I prefer the 24v. I have a 2001.5 H.O. with a 6 speed, Dana 80 rear end and rear disc brakes hydro boosted. I put in a FASS lift pump and a fuel pressure gauge, 275 HP injectors. Bought it new, later 2nd gen trucks have things that earlier ones don't.

Why does everyone like the 12 valves more? Im new to diesels and trying to figure out which to shoot for
@oscarbear7498Ай бұрын
@@Grant3758p-pump. 12v has a mechanical pump 24v has a electronic pump which has bad history to fail.
@Bloodbain88Ай бұрын
Like the guy above me said, the 12 valve is sought after because of it's legendary reliability. The mechanical fuel system also allows it to run on waste oils like old engine oil, transmission fluid, vegetable oil, and many others. The engine itself literally cannot have electrical failures because it doesn't have a computer, it doesn't have an electric fuel pump or electronic injectors, no cam sensor, no crank sensor, no mass airflow sensor, no manifold pressure sensor, no O2 sensors ect. If you keep them stock (or close to stock) and change the oil and filters regularly, the engine WILL last a very, very long time. Driving one on a long trip gives you great piece of mind too. You just know it's not going to break down and leave you stranded. Probably ever. This isn't a dig at the 24 valve Cummins though, they're great too. But nothing compares to the reliability of those 12 valves.

She's pretty much my daily driver and can STILL pull a freight train. Hard to believe no one has made an aftermarket dash assembly that is NOT plastic.
