As an owner of a v85tt I believe that I would miss the cruise control, shaft drive, tubeless tires and Italian style more than 16hp. The Guzzi has more torque, and that torque is available out. The Guzzi has no trouble cruising all day at high speed and is very comfortable for my 6'1" frame. The Transalp I think would have the advantage off-road and have an extensive dealer network. While Honda has a great reputation for reliability, my experience with two Moto Guzzis since 2017 has been completely trouble free over 27,000 combined miles. Most will choose the Honda but Moto Guzzi has my heart.

Honda, you have a huge opportunity here. We all know Freddie should buy this bike. He loves it and it fits his usage almost perfectly, but we also know that Freddie is drawn, however irrationally, to a more classic aesthetic, which might be the final hurdle preventing him from laying down the cash. Now, Honda, imagine if somehow you just forgot to ask for the bike back. You would then have one of the best, most charming, most characterful, and most likeable Moto content creators featuring your bike in his beautiful, nearly cinematic creations, for years to come. Think about it, Honda, think very long and hard. ❤

Hi - I’m sure you already know this but in case you didn’t- maybe try standing up on those pegs more when off-roading. You can do slight turns by pushing down on the pegs with your feet in the direction you want to go while using your knees as shock absorbers- especially over bigger rocks, sand areas, ruts or through steams. When you sit, all that energy from bumps travel up your body from your butt into your shoulders, arms and hands which can cause you to fight the bike more or lose control. Just a suggestion. Really enjoy your videos and always look forward to your next one!

The V85TT Travel edition additionally features heated grips, panniers, large screen, center stand, TPMS. You know, stuff that Honda didn't include in the "adventure" pack.

Great review! Can I just say that I really appreciated the offroad portion of the video. No professional rider blasting down single track doing wheelies and power slides, but rather the kind of riding I do - somewhat slow and cautious. That's no reflection on Freddie or his riding ability which is no doubt above mine, but it's refreshing to see compared to many other review videos. I've been very interested in the new Transalp ever since I first saw it in the press two years ago, and this review has done a wonderful job of reinforcing my decision that it will be my next bike. Thank you for all Transalp content! I have Moto Guzzi V85TT and I think it is a superb bike, but also very different. Biggest difference is not weight, because V85TT has very low center of gravity. Biggest difference is chassis and suspension. Let me quote few words from Bike UK adventure bike mega test about V85TT: "its chassis is the highlight. Quietly sneaking into this gaggle of 21-inchers with its 19-inch front wheel, the V85 could never be called quick steering but rolls into turns with measured ease, surprising accuracy and pleasing road-holding. It's not sharp, but it's definitely fun. And the Guzzi's suspension is wonderful too. It's not just got the best ride quality of the bunch, but some of the best I've ever sampled." They rated V85 TT the second best middle sized adv bike, after Ducati Desert X saying: we’d take the Moto Guzzi V85 TT for long trips and huge miles - it’s got glorious comfort, surprisingly effective handling and flexible thrust, in a touchy-feely package that makes you smile. 1. Ducati Desert X 2. Moto Guzzi V85TT and Tiger 900 Rally Pro 4. Yamaha Tenere World Raid 5. Husqvarna Norden 901 6. Aprilia Tuareg 660

Great film. What a team you both are! Have no mainstream producers approached yet? If not it is only a matter of time. Love the Transalp but.. Guzzi is not an academic exercise. Honda might be all things to most people but Guzzi is artisanal in a mass produced world. Guzzi is an exercise in soul, character, romance, simplicity and they are evocative in ways which are not easy to express. Certainly not on a spec-sheet or in a game of top trumps. Guzzi is analogue in a digital world, it is vinyl in a world of streaming. The world is better because Guzzi exists. If you have access to the digitally designed universe through your presser bikes and contacts then you owe it to yourself, to your soul, to make the bike you actually own one that speaks to the artist inside you both.

I can see you having some fantastic adventures on it in the coming years, and think a lot of us would like to come along for the ride. There are plenty of "new bike test riders" on youtube, which is great, but I love your "living life with a bike" style of films. As for people saying you`re more of a retro guy, well retro is just a matter of perspective really. The transalp has it`s roots back in the 80`s, and it gives me the retro feel but with a modern look, (although I still wish they`d given it the twin round headlights). That would have been the icing on the cake for me. And don`t forget, tomorrow`s brand new bike will be retro one day. Keep up the great work, can`t wait for next episode. Cheers Freddie!

You left out that those of us in the Western Hemisphere not only miss out on this beautiful color as an option (even though I think I would prefer the black.. they may be right on that assumption), that our version is apparently 70 something horsepower, not the rest of the world's 90+! I don't understand that. I am hoping some of the woes with this bike get ironed out in subsequent models the next few years. At this time I'm pretty convinced it'll be my next/second bike. Much different than what I currently have but it's the next step I'd like to take in my riding journey. Great review, big fan. I think you were reasonably honest with the downsides of this thing, and you describe the beauty and perks of it so well, as always. Thank you sir.

Excellent ponderings as always, Freddie. Personally, unless i was genuinely going to tackle an around-the-world , largely off road journey, i'd still go for the Guzzi 85tt. At a practical level, it offers cruise control and shaft drive. At an emotional level, it has soul, a sense of pride of ownership, great looks (imo) and an overall appeal to my senses. These things matter. Sometimes.

Great review and wrap up Freddie. I've got a Transalp, it's a brilliant bike. But I only ride for pleasure a couple of times a week, and the heart isn't into it. If I commuted daily, I would keep it forever. But I think I'll be selling it this year and picking up an inferior, but more desirable Italian bike.

Great film Freddie, but so far over the top it's got snow on it. It's a fine bike no doubt, but as you pointed out the lack of heated grips, centre stand (and cruise control) would be a concern. More subjectively, I prefer shaft-drive and for this reason the Moto Guzzi looks more attractive.

Great video and review! I'm just taking my license lessons and test. And obviously I've spent endless hours considering my first bike (being 187 cm tall, old, with sore back and wanting to do longer trips, many of bikes are out of the question). At first, I was very keen on the NC750x. Then I discovered the MG VT85TT. And finally, the Transalp. Not sure if any of these would be a good beginners bike but it made me happy all of those actually are listed in this video (two of them in the top answers!) :). Plus, I'm still very much in love with the Transalp, although the VT with the prop and tubeless tires is right behind.. This is a tough choice. Thanks for the video!

Great video. I owned the 2020 africa twin DCT Adventure sports until my car was Tee boned. I was insured, but I decided to let it go and buy an AWD Endura with the lot. I kept my HD Ultra limited as my bike. I think the Africa twin has more presence than the Transalp, but that lighter weight would be more fun. Thank you for a great review.

Freddie another great review for people who may want to own a bike long term. If possible can you add the service costs when reviewing a bike, keep up the good work.

Nice video mate with Beautiful countryside. Understand you may not be an experienced off-roader, but that Gravel mode is really quite useless. It is far too harsh and intrusive. You did omit talking about its closest competitor being the New Vstrom 800DE, now that is a tough call. Hope you get that Transalp in your garage soon. Has the making for some great travelling and touring content.

Whenever Mr Dobbs says it needs ”minimal maintenance” I always wonder how he’s come to that conclusion. All bikes with engines need maintenance as the current trials of the bonneville should prove ^^. Great review of a very interesting bike. I’ve only sat on one in the showroom and while it’s incredibly comfortable for me I fear the tubes (and my riding habits) would lead me to the Vstrom 800 RE instead. Slightly better pricing and seven years warranty also helps.

Great review of a great bike and a bike I would have if I have the funds. Common sense aside many people including myself do go for a bit of character too and this is why the roads aren't full of Transalps, or one particular bike. I think it's that happy medium of heart and mind coming together in agreement over something which has to stir the soul and also do the job. Thankfully we all differ.

Great Review Freddie! Anyone that has ridden the previous models will know what they are getting, you summed it up nicely! Honda should provide the bash plate and hand guards as standard, just for the looks! (hope you have given the norman wisdom suit jacket back😅). I would love for someone to offer you a free off road motorbike riding course and get you popping a wheelie or two!😜

Great review Freddie. I have the old 1998 Transalp and would upgrade at the drop of hat should the the finances permit. Honda should at least include the bash plate at the standard price.

I tried a 600 transalp in Portugal, early 90’s. I was very impressed with it. I would buy a second hand 600 or 650 transalp. (That’s all I can afford😊)
