The Hopper Juan

The Hopper Juan is my signature pattern created in 2008. It's a great attractor, hopper and stonefly pattern and can be tied to match most insect colors you need. Its very buoyant so you can hold up a good sized dropper or two under this pattern.

Very nice pattern. What size foam cutter do you mostly use?

Mostly using the medium sized cutter for the foam.

Would it be possible to use a TMC 2302? They have a slight hump on them.

Hi. I am not a fan of that hook for this pattern. As you mentioned, there is a hump and down turned eye on that hook. This pattern is designed to sit flat on the water with the foam creating a flat platform to float on. When you change the hook to one that has a hump on it, it takes away the flat surface and makes it more prone to wanting to sit on its side to make up for that lack of a flat surface. Hope that makes sense.
