Just got my order of slim rib (all 5 colors) and immediately tied some of these. Yes, the slim rib is legit. Really helps maintain the slim profile, which I struggled to do with other flexible ribbing material. Gracias!!

Some of the best tying videos out there, especially if you tie for techy tailwaters.

Thank you. Yeah, I am a bit of a tailwater nerd and I know what they eat on those rivers. All I do is try to replicate what I see.

@@HopperJuan Same. I spend a lot of time on the South Platte during winter.... When in doubt, go smaller!

Awesome fly. Can’t wait to tie this up for Utah tail waters.

Do you ever put a bead on these?
@HopperJuan5 жыл бұрын
I do, but I place them in the thorax area. See the video on the Tungsten Slim Shady. @@brichweb

6.0 -thin coat of Sally Hansens hard as nails on the body/ribbing. This fly takes some abuse and the ribbing can come undone when you need to use forceps. Hansens adds a super-thin finish and adds to its longevity. I also recommend fishing it barbless for this reason as well, AHREX FW531 for a hook. In winter I love this fly in purple
@HopperJuan3 жыл бұрын
Yep, a coating couldn’t hurt. I’ve used both ways and as long as you don’t use forceps on the fly, you should be good. And that hook is a good one to use. Very sharp and strong. It won’t bend out either. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I didn’t catch what size hook you are using? By the way, I really enjoy all your videos and like your tying style- thin and clean!
@HopperJuan6 жыл бұрын
Rich Plecker , I tie them in size 18-22. This is a size 20. Thanks for the kind words.

Juan Ramirez I re-watched and you did say #20, I just missed it, sorry! I have tied a couple dozen of these, but all I can find is UTC midge rib- doesn’t seem to be quit the same. Where do I get your rib?

Rich Plecker , send me an email. I have the Slim Rib used for this fly. Juan@anglerscovey.com

how long would you say the tails are? body length or longer?
@HopperJuan3 жыл бұрын
It’s dependent on what you want. I’d say I tie some with longer tails and some with shorter tails. It really depends on what you are trying to imitate. So, it’s up to you!!!
