Me myself have bought the horl2 and it does the job easy. It just take a lot of time to learn the correct angle. After this video I went to look up the Hone sharpener and luckily enough they sell an Anglemate where you can set up to 12 angles. Because the block from the horl2 is not satisfying at all. But since I bought also the premium package I will not change totally, but I figure you can use the Hone block in combination with the horl2 rollingsharpener. So thank you so much for this video, unfortunately it was to late for saving a lot of money but I am really happy to have the Anglemate

@@ariehattum7328 that's pretty much what I do now, I use 4 disc (2 on the Horl, 2 on the Hone) so that I'm not swapping discs. Get the Hone angle block though, the magnets are fantastic! Also, you can now get a block extension for it 👍🏻😁

Since your video, I am glad to report that the Hone rolling sharpener now includes ball bearings, so still another reason to go with Hone. Finally, Hone now produces “angle mates” that allow a large number of alternative angled knives to be sharpened.

I finally bought myself 3 beautiful knives yesterday. I’m going to pick up ached knife bag to keep them safe and I’m going to buy the Hone to maintain it. Years of whetstones and rods and I’ve never been happy with my edges

I have the Horl 2 (not pro) and my only compliant is that it only has the two angles. The new work Sharp rolling sharpener has 4 angles 15,17,20,25 degrees. Anyways, thanks your review!

Just so you know the hone, now has ball bearings, if you get it from there site it comes with a ceramic disc for free and the pro kit comes with everything plus 2 Matt’s that can do an extra 4-6 angles and you can also to tiny knives like EDC knives on the hone

Yes, but you will have to pay for shipping to Europe or UK. It is more profitable to buy from Amazon (there is already a new version) + ceramic disc, cheaper than shipping from Canada. And they don't include AngleMate in the set anymore, apparently it was a temporary offer

Very useful review. Thank you for posting. But how do you know whether your knife is sharpened at 15 or 20 degrees. Many thanks.
@CloughReviews5 ай бұрын
The rule of thumb is that the average western knife is not made from the highest quality steel and as such won't keep an edge if sharpened at 15 degrees. If you have expensive knives, do 15. If you are unsure, you can try 15 and see if it keeps an edge
@omerkeidar9526 күн бұрын
To my understanding the width of the knife also effects the angle, with some very wide knives adding up to 4° to you Sharpening angle. so you should really only use 20°with very thin, very cheap knives. And default to 15° for most blades.
@kyroslangen61816 күн бұрын
@@omerkeidar95 Mostly has to do with edge retention, if you have low hardness steel or if you abuse your knives you would probably want to sharpen it to 20 maybe ven 25 in somce cases. But if you have high quality hard steel such as a vg10 japanese steel and you don't abuse the knife for example you would probably want to sharpen it to 15 this will feel way sharper

Thx for the comparison. Just wondering how the Hone does after a year or so of use. The cheap knock-offs that sell for less than even the Hone do well for about 10 sharpenings, then the diamond stone wears out, and you end up spending WAY too long. So, what is your impression after a considerable amount of use?
@CloughReviewsАй бұрын
I understand what you are saying, I actually use both when sharpening because I haven't bought a rough disc for the Hone yet so use the rough disc on the Horl before swapping over. If you want to stick with the Horl (discs are really expensive though), my recommendation is that you get the Hone base and use that. It is so much better than the Horl one, much stronger magnets and the ability to hold and sharpen small knives. In summary, I'm still happy with the Hone and if I had to buy another sharpener, it would be the Hone with the additional Pro disk pack. Hope that helps.
@philipbacani5014 ай бұрын
Just a question. Hone got 2 sided diamond disc. Does it mean it wears off and needed to be replaced after years of use? However HORL claimed on their website that their diamond disc are for lifetime use and does not need to be replaced at all.
@CloughReviews4 ай бұрын
@@philipbacani501 Could be the case. Not seen it yet. In life you do tend to get what you Pay for, I do think you are paying a premium for the Horl though.
@twistedjiji3 ай бұрын
For both the HORL and HONE, have you done comparisons between the discs and sharpening results? It seems like HORL has finer sharpening discs, so I'm curious if the end result is the same or different between the two systems.
@CloughReviews3 ай бұрын
The final sharpening was very similar. Where the Horl disc did well was in the extra right disk that I purchased great on a really rough knife to get it started
@twistedjiji3 ай бұрын
@@CloughReviews Thanks! I've given the HORL 2 Pro a try from Amazon--it does a really good job sharpening, but it was just too expensive with the Sharpener + premium set. The one I received had a walnut handle, and it was attracting tiny bugs. While it did a great job sharpening, I don't know if it was worth that amount of $, so I'm looking at HONE and RUI Rolling Stone Pro. If HORL dropped their price, I'd consider going for a non-wood version.
