"And It was my daughter's idea to have the Nimon's beams cut straight through the co-pilots body. She's 7" Your daughter's a genius.

Oh lovely, this story is one of my guilty pleasures, rather panto but enjoyable, loving the use of the asteroid, and you’ve made the spaceship shots look positively filmic. Thanks!

I’m so sad that these won’t be on the upcoming blu ray release. I just hope someone at the BBC takes notice of your incredible work. We’ve only been getting one official VFX update per blu ray set, meanwhile you’re here doing practically every single story! You’ve got such a perfect balance of updating the FX without it becoming too distracting or out of place, something even the official releases don’t always manage.

Great work! Love that effect when the Nimon kills the co-pilot.

Sardor was the co-pilot's name according to the target novelization of the episode and Sekkoth was the pilot's name.

@@duncanshaw1256 I always re-read the novelisations for the stories before, or while, I'm doing the effects to help get some extra context and inspiration, and I thought it was weird that the pilots aren't named in the TV version. It's especially odd that the co-pilot isn't named as he has quite a big role!

The Horns of Nimon is one of my favourites. A brilliant retelling of Theseus and the Minotaur. I never got it on DVD. I wish I had.

brilliantly insightful - and slightly scary - 7 year old. I really liked that shot of the beams cutting through the co pilot.

The Doctor's comment at the end is very personal (like, he speaks from personal experience), and more-so in hindsight.

The interesting thing about this particular story is that everybody (myself included) hated it when it first aired. But, looking back, it really wasn't all that bad, except for over-the-top acting from Tom Baker and Graham Crowden and a few ill-advised comedy bits. I very much enjoy the concept taken from the Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur; it fits quite well in the science-fiction genre. Lalla Ward really shines as Romana in this tale as she is given a lot to do and she does it well, with Romana behaving exactly as the Doctor himself would do in certain situations. The Nimon costumes seemed to be a bit cumbersome for the actors wearing them, with one poor actor nearly falling over as he turns around. There is, however, a note of real-life tragedy. Simon Kent, who was 21 when he portrayed Seth in this serial, died 8 years later from morphine poisoning at the age of 28.

is there a CGI to blue-ify "The Co-pilot's" Rip Torn pants in the laser blast scene?

I watched this recently and was shocked just how bad it was - Tom Baker clearly regards it as a joke at this point, which doesn't help.
