Spies during the Second World War were treated brutally if they fell into the hands of their enemies. They were usually executed, but inside of Natzweiler-Struthof Concentration Camp there were four female spies who worked for SOE who were subjected to a brutal execution and one of these was Vera Leigh. She was 40 when she trained to become a field agent for the spy agency who would work with the French Resistance, and she was known for being a good and trustworthy agent.
But after being in Paris a short while, Vera Leigh was arrested and she was then tortured inside of a German prison. Following this she was then sent to Natzweiler Concentration Camp, and after being held for a matter of hours she was dragged into the crematoria, given an injection and was then thrown inside of the crematoria oven.
