@@Pewnhound112 For me, it was Andrée's arctic balloon expedition. He used a rapidly deflating balloon that he had to refill in secret several times, and expected it to keep him flying over the Arctic for 30 days straight. Didn't listen to all the criticism handed to him by international balloon experts or even his fellow crewmate, and neglected to at the very least adequately prepare for a worst-case scenario. How could things have ended in any other way? He could barely keep the thing flying right after it lifted off. It was heavily reminiscent of the sinking of the Vasa ship.

I just have to point out that I've been here since the beginning just about and Shaun (sp?) has always had an absolutely *masterful* grasp of sound. Those notes that play in the beginning prior to the intro? Perfect. I didn't even realize it was creating brand recognition or whatever in me until I noted the joy I felt hearing them because it meant another Scary Interesting video had arrived. The sound effects within each video are subtle yet perfectly placed. I can't help but wonder if the channel owner used to work in some form of music production or marketing or some other field that heavily utilizes sound. And yeah, I know my comment isn't about the video itself but I wonder this every time I watch one of these so I figured it can't hurt to ask. Maybe someone out there can sate my curiosity. I'd love to start a channel but sound and how to effectively use it has always been the thing that has stopped me.

The story of Sir Wilfred Grenfell is also another great survival story from Newfoundland and Labrador. Don’t know if you’ve heard of it. He got stranded on the Ice off of Labrador while running to get medical attention for a young boy. The ice broke up and he started drifting out to sea. He had his dog team with him and had to butcher and skin several of his dogs and used their fur to stay warm through the night. Later he used their bones and tied them together to make a flag pole. He was seen and rescued. I believe he spent 2 or three days on the ice. He was very sorry about his dogs, and I believe he later set up a memorial to them. Great story. He is somewhat of a hero in Newfoundland. Cheers from BC, Canada. Great channel.

I'm from Newfoundland.Thank you for covering this. I started watching your channel recently and I just finished watching you video about the Hokkoda Mountain disaster and it made me of the sealing disaster. In another video you said you were Canadian so I wondered if you had covered this and if not I was going to forward you the email about it I sent fascinating horror. I searched your channel for the word seal and you are already ahead of me.

25:37 35000 seals 🦭 how is that sustainable
@mrs.h2725
@mrs.h2725 9 ай бұрын
It's not lol, humans have caused extinction of many populations and entire species of animals. That's why organizations have worked so hard to fight for conservation efforts to try to reverse some of the damage we've caused. Many shark populations are down 75% in the last 50 yrs thanks to over fishing for fins and sport. But it's harder to get the public's support to protect apex predators like sharks than it is cute fuzzy seals.

Two members of the crew who froze to death were a father and his son. They died in each other’s arms and were hoisted off the ship still frozen together, the father shielding the son. It was a heartbreaking sight for the thousands who witnessed the unloading of the dead from the ship’s deck. The statue at the end of the video was dedicated in 2014 to the sealers lost in 1914 and depicts the father and son, Rueben and Albert John Crewe.
