The sound effects within each video are subtle yet perfectly placed. I can't help but wonder if the channel owner used to work in some form of music production or marketing or some other field that heavily utilizes sound. And yeah, I know my comment isn't about the video itself but I wonder this every time I watch one of these so I figured it can't hurt to ask. Maybe someone out there can sate my curiosity. The story of Sir Wilfred Grenfell is also another great survival story from Newfoundland and Labrador. Don’t know if you’ve heard of it. He got stranded on the Ice off of Labrador while running to get medical attention for a young boy. The ice broke up and he started drifting out to sea. He had his dog team with him and had to butcher and skin several of his dogs and used their fur to stay warm through the night. Later he used their bones and tied them together to make a flag pole. He was seen and rescued. I believe he spent 2 or three days on the ice. He was very sorry about his dogs, and I believe he later set up a memorial to them. Great story. He is somewhat of a hero in Newfoundland. Cheers from BC, Canada. Great channel.

These stories remind me of how tough our ancestors were and how incredibly weak we are these days.

My great-great grandfather, along with two of his sons passed in the sealing disaster. Thomas Jordan, Henry and Bernard Jordan. I read Death on the ice in school, not knowing at the time, that I had a direct connection. I've spent the past few months doing some digging on the tragedy.

Imagine how many people throughout time have died needlessly based on the orders of someone whose "reputation" was too big to question.

I must say I find "sealing" appaling. Maybe nature took her revenge on the murder of innocent creatures.

Two members of the crew who froze to death were a father and his son. They died in each other’s arms and were hoisted off the ship still frozen together, the father shielding the son. It was a heartbreaking sight for the thousands who witnessed the unloading of the dead from the ship’s deck. The statue at the end of the video was dedicated in 2014 to the sealers lost in 1914 and depicts the father and son, Rueben and Albert John Crewe.

People back in the day were just built differently. If not for these brave souls. We would not be where we are today. And for that, I am grateful for their sacrifices!

Those sealers hardly got any pay in order to feed their families....Only the ship owners made the money. So educate yourself before you make an idiotic remark.
