Kia's Telluride has been such a success that Kia literally can't build enough of them. Hopefully that will change for 2023 as Kia is upping production in Georgia by 25% to around 120,000 a year. That'll likely cement the Telluride's position as the 4th best selling 3-row in America, but it may not do enough to solve the shortage that has plagued shoppers interested in one of the best family vehicles in America.

It is a good looking car. I’m told that the engine is old-school and for me, the quality is not near Toyota. So I bought a 23 Toyota Highlander platinum with the new four-cylinder turbo and power is incredible. I traded in a Lexus GX, V8, and extremely happy with a four-cylinder turbo acceleration.

I complain a lot about the trend towards ugly front ends, even from the likes of BMW; I love driving my Toyota Avalon but I’m glad I don’t have to look at it from the driver’s seat. This Kia Telluride is an example of a maker that gets it right (Lincoln since 2019 has been pretty nice looking, too).

We bought a '23 Palisade back in August. We had a slight preference for the Telluride but we only had to wait a month for the Palisade vs. much much longer for the Telluride. Alex mentioned my biggest complaint so far, which is the inability to fold the captains chairs with a child seat in place. In a $50k SUV that is designed for families, I don't get why Hyundai, Kia, and so many other manufacturers leave this simple feature out.

I think that good interior function and space should be a thing with crossovers. That and a decent AWD or auto 4x4 in my opinion are the 2 main points of a crossover. If you cant travel a somewhat rough road, (I'm not talking hardcore) get home from work or wherever if it snows, plus have decent interior space and function for the size vehicle a crossover is almost pointless. So for me the good interior space would be points in the good column if I was in the market for a new car.

My parents were the biggest Hyundai / Kia fans for a couple of decades while they were pumping out less than quality cars - owned the total of 5 cars from Hyundai / Kia. My dad was one of the first Genesis owners that I knew. Now that Hyundai / Kia finally started making decent cars, the dealers have decided to be dicks asking for way over MSRP for their cars. My parents just drove their old Genesis over to the Lexus dealership and got themselves a new Lexus. I love the new cars from Hyundai / Kia, but I cannot stand the dealer experiences. It's just not worth my time and headache, yet. Maybe things will get better once the supply shortage dies down.

I would give up the dealer experience to get a better quality car. Kia Hyundai Genesis can have the worst dealer experience and still produce better quality cars than Toyota and Lexus Lexus has the best luxury vehicle owner experience but genesis has the best quality luxury vehicles period.
@joshuaychung
@joshuaychung Жыл бұрын
@@naveenthemachine When the dealer asks you to pay $5K over the MSRP and you can get a Lexus in the same class for the same price, that's when you hop over to the Lexus dealership. I think Hyundai / Kia make good cars, but I wouldn't go crazy and say that they product better quality cars than Toyota / Lexus. My family has owned multiple Hyundais / Kias and one Genesis so far. We have also owned our fair share of Toyotas. I have never once thought the Hyundais / Kias were better than our Toyotas in either the ride quality or the longevity. Having said that, it was sad to see my dad being excited to try out the "new" Hyundai just to be put off by the prospect of paying $5K more for the privilege of buying the new car. Yes, the cars are the #1 factors in the buying process, but the dealership experiences do matter. It's a bad practice to turn away a loyal customer like my dad who literally drove in a Genesis looking to buy another Hyundai.

Dealerships are locally owned businesses, and they vary considerably. In many cities the same company that owns the Kia dealer will also sell you a Toyota, Ford, or Lexus. How well or badly those dealerships are run depends on their parent company, not Kia at all (or Hyundai). When we bought a Hyundai a decade ago we were entirely happy with the local dealer, and I can't say the same for several other dealerships we visited. We fully expected to buy a Civic (we'd had one before), but the local Honda dealership had terrible sales people who knew nothing about their vehicles and wasted our time. The Mazda folks were less bad, but not especially helpful. The Hyundai people were easy, knew their product, and the pricing was reasonable. We did all the negotiation by email and they had all the paperwork ready to sign when we picked up the car. It all depends on the particular dealer.

Hyundai/Kia tend to do one mid-cycle refresh only. I'd expect a full redesign in about three years, though I wouldn't be surprised if they delayed it a year or even more if sales continue to be strong. T he w Pilot is pretty ancient and still sells, which let Honda stretch out the time before a redesign was needed. I'd expect the next generation to lose the V-6 in favor of hybrids, as Hyundai/Kia are investing heavily in them.

No, there aren't any. If you want more width, a minivan is a good option. The main dimensional difference between a mid-sized crossover and a minivan is that the minivan is much wider. It also has a lower floor, but that is less of a difference than the width.

Legal and more common than amber in the US. It is at best a slight safety advantage to have amber or they would be mandated, as they are in Europe. With amber LEDs it wouldn't even necessarily be obvious, as the turn signal could look red when not in use.

@@markmiller3279 It's not just that they are red, it's also the placement. One hardly notices when they are flashing. I have a couple of reasons I don't like the Kia telluride. 1. There has been evidence that supports claims that they catch fire for the wiring harness connected to the tow hitch. Unless you want the possibility of your Kia telluride to go up in flames . 2. A lot of Kia telluride owners complain about the headlights not bringing bright enough especially the factory LEDs. That's why my 2016 Nissan Sentra had the halogens replaced with aftermarket LED. Disclaimer.. make sure you check before doing this so it's not void your warranty. 3. Yeah it has one of the best warranties out there. However pay attention to the word limited. What that means is that just because it's a bumper to bumper or powertrain warranty doesn't mean it covers everything only limited items. Unlike my Nissan brand which is unlimited. 4. Lack of Anti-Theft technology. You can have the fanciest, flashiest, and high technology car you want. However it means nothing if it gets stolen. My 2016 Nissan Sentra came standard with intelligent key, immobilization system, locking steering wheel, and push button start. With the Kia telluride you only get push button on the higher trims. 5. Kia is the child of Hyundai. Kia and Hyundai engines are known to have transmission problems within the first 50,000 miles.

They do seem to be pretty reliable but I happen to know quite a few people and have been introduced to people who have had lots of engine failures at around 100,000 miles, not with a Telluride but with other new Kia vehicles. So engine life and such at those higher mileages is a concern to me. The two options I am currently liking more at would be a Ford Expedition and the new Jeep Wagoneer, unfortunately the Jeep Wagoneer is just too much money compared to others. So that pretty much leaves the options between the Ford Expedition and this Telluride as we look to get something in the next few months to a year.

Who is really looking at the exhaust tips on a family crossover? It's not a performance vehicle. Having the muffler run across the back is a logical thing to do, and that puts the exhaust at one side.

I personally am glad that all Tellurides come with a V-6. In my experience with four-cylinder turbo motors, they are more harsh and noisy. I prefer the smoothness and quiet of a V-6, and I’m willing to sacrifice a mile or two possibly on MPG.

@@gosman949 USB-C is an exceptionally robust connection. I'm careless with my devices and all my USB-C plugs still fit tightly (unlike the fragile Micro-USB). Hyundai/Kia's claim is that the wireless connections don't work reliably for such high-resolution displays, and I have heard chronic complaints about flaky connections for other brands. They've offered wireless connections in models with smaller displays, even in lower trim levels of the same models, so it isn't just cheaping out. I think they're waiting until the technology is improved.
