Thank you. An hour and half of sheer entertainment. I really appreciated the actor's beautiful voices and clear enunciation. I expect there are many elderly people, who like me, find these old radio plays an essential part of every day life.❤❤❤

Great to listen, radio is the best theater of the mind - and it allows other activity while listening...Thanks, BBC, for publishing these stories, and thanks to Chesterton Radio for this upload.

It’s so good with radio when the location needs to be established so we hear a pipe organ and immediately the listener is transported to Holland within minutes
@michaelberg96562 ай бұрын
I'd call it a street organ or barrel organ, "pipe organ" suggests a church or concert hall. But yes you are right!

Thanks for sharing this. I enjoyed listening to it. I did think it was drawn out a bit too much at that end and the romantic piece was unbelievable the way it happened. But overall a good plot. Thanks

What a terrific, gripping story, not dumbed down enough for today’s audience, I suspect as the BBC decided our attention span for a drama can only attain an hour, then 45 minutes and finally 15 minutes. Such arrogance

It's scary how little attention people can pay nowadays, even to something interesting.

Well I think the BBC are being premature catering for the ever growing short attention span syndrome but it’s coming to a time not too far distant when this will be the norm. The downside of modern technology that can have so much to offer the enquiring mind but those of that ilk are fast disappearing.

Yes having grown up listening to radio four afternoon plays that were a full hour and the Saturday evening plays were one and a half hours it’s so disappointing that the bbc are gradually shortening these radio dramas

Synopsis: Edward Furse charters out his yacht to a man who becomes extremely sea sick. Later, when he checks on him, the man is dead. Going through his luggage he finds maps to a dangerous find.

just Why???!!! this is totally unnecessary!

@@feralbluee Well, lots of listeners ask for a synopsis so they can decide if they want to listen to it. I do it as a kindness for them. Most books, radio plays, tv shows, and movies come with a brief summary for that reason. I'm sorry if you find it unnecessary.

Thank you for finding this gem of a play. I won't spoil it for others but the plot pivots on a unique black and white agent! Incidentally, many of the plays of this era featured actors from the BBC repertory company. This accounts for the casts that routinely featured over twenty of them - a cost effective but significant amount of on-going cost. Today, most of any drama output features casts that can be counted on the fingers of one hand which seriously limits the material available. Also, who is there now writing radio fiction? Having said that, it's worth finding anything by Julian Simpson who is never boring and always creative. His characters loosely inhabit the same world in an often surprising way. There are some on utube but all can be found on his own website.

quite impressed with the Dutch pronunciation but there is a confusion with Mr which should be Meneer (menear) and not Mein Herr which is German - never mind, cracking plot
