I would be scared to death to live in the house but the garden is spectacular, I can see that is what fills your heart. Most of all- I want to be your friend. I enjoy your outlook on life and verbal acuity. You are one of a kind and I say that in a very positive way. Enjoy. 🤗

applause! first clapping for the fact that you took it on with small children, second clapping for the fact that you did not fall into the trapping out there of must have big house for entertaining and third clapping for the fact you did not wait for perfection to inspire others. Hubs and I bought a piece of land and had a shell of a cabin built and I gardened on the hill behind it while he built a greenhouse. Our cabin is 384 sq feet. No kids, retired but we have a dog, Clem. He later put in solar. We took our baths outdoors for 16 months until we dug the trench for water pipe from the well. We have some luxuries you don't have but took a long time to get. The differences aren't worth mentioning but still unfinished inside and we are so contented that it is ridiculous. We could never have retired if we kept our house

Well done! How many people can say they have built their own house? Mistakes? Just look at how poorly new builds are built and you have nothing to be ashamed of. That garden is fantastic. You've done a lot of great work in a short time. You are a wonderful role model for your girls. I can't believe you have a stove that big. My place is 750 sq ft and I have a normal wood stove and that is too hot for me! Yeah, a greenhouse attached would be great!

This is amazing! I only have one advice, my friend stored her wood inside, she is now paying thousands for fumigation, woodworm came in the wood. Pretty please only store an armload or so at a time. I know it means more in and out in cold weather, but I don't want to see you loose all that hard work. I live in a tiny house, I also have a long list of projects that must be done. Number one is treating my wood walls. I built my woodshed out of a layer of gravel with a few pallets on top a few put together with brackets then a clear plastic roof panel. Lets sun in helps keep wood dry. Work a treat and built in an afternoon.

I think its so awesome how you showed us your house as is, and im very greatful for that. Me and my family live in a tiny home and as a mom who also homeschools our place can get messy quick! On top of us in the middle of building to it still. Everything takes time, but to have the freedom to do what you want when making your own house is so worth it🎉

Hi Erin 👋 Your video popped up in recommend and so glad it did. You're home is gorgeous and looking forward to watching some of your older videos. I love your wood cooker i used to have something similar called a stanley here in Ireland. Check out some arga or range cooking books they should help. I remember the struggle to get the oven to a temperature and keep it steady 😂 And the dust but I really miss mine. Take care lovely x

I have a thought about your greenhouse. Is it possible to build it out from the ridge of the roof; it would cover the sections where you want to install your solar panels, but you could use a clear roof material for the greenhouse, plus you would not have snow collection on the solar panels. I hope the finishing goes well. You are so talented to build to where you are. Kudos and well wishes.

Bare bones Excellent. Cosmetics can be done over time - interior trim, painting, and ultimately “doors” or hinged closure for the floor storage to keep out as much wood dust as possible. You should be VERY proud. Proof that you LOVE 💕it is evidenced in the thought you put into its creation, as well as the gardens and animals around your home. Have you seen OFF GRID with DOUG & STACY on KZbin? Stacy cooks on a wood 🪵 burning cookstove. As does Colette O’Neill from BEALTAINE COTTAGE also on KZbin. I can personally recommend cooking on an induction burner in cast iron pots and pans during the summer months. It uses very little electricity. Wishing you much luck with your endeavors. I’m impressed with your having taken on Home UnSchooling of your daughters. A mark of courage and a great deal of common sense. 🙌 -V

Hi Erin! Leo and I have been enjoying following along on your journey. (Oh good, it's Wednesday, another Erin episode). Leo is concerned about the lack of a handrail on your loft steps. " They are pretty steep and narrow and if she has to get out in a hurry, especially at night, it could be dangerous!" Wishing you all the best and looking forward to future installments.
@BeautifulUnschoolLife10 күн бұрын
Hello Maureen!!! I'm thrilled that you are still following us! And Leo is very right to be concerned about those steps. They are super dangerous, and our fall would be broken by the wood stove. Somehow none of us have fallen. I think the steps are dangerous enough that we're all still being very cautious around them. But I'm still not sure how to put a railing on it that would work.

I am sure there are other channels out there that can help you figure out how to built it. I am also a subscriber of Roots And Refuge. Been watching them for years now. I sub to David The Good as well , check him out sometime if you like. He has lots of good info on growing food. I look forward to your future video posts.
