God, I love these movies. They take one into a fantasy world utterly devoid of harsh reality. There is tragedy, but it always has meaning. The joy is such JOY, especially in these harsh, tragic, cynical times. Keep them coming.

Right? Same here. Love these classics. As another eloquently stated, these movies are a wonderful distraction from so much cynicism & the Chaos Culture of today. Well, I added about Chaos Culture, bc it's too true. At least in our own homes, our world of peace, we can enjoy these classics. Paz be with us all & Feliz Navideño Christmas season 🙏. A lovely movie! Cary Grant's acting is a bit strange in it; but, all in all, a remarkable job done by all. I only wish I could see all of the extraordinary colours it must contain.

I totally agree that Cary Grant's Acting Style in this Movie was a Bit " Over 1:44:44 the Top " and " Overacting " at Best ... This Style made him Famous in Comedies like " Bringing up Baby " With Katharine Hepburn ... He was not Well Cast in a Historical Drama ...
@petermorin44224 күн бұрын
And I do Believe that this is the Only Historical Drama that He was Ever Cast in ... Comedies and Hitchcock Dramas Made him a Hollywood Star ... Also Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant's Pairing was Masterful

Not Cary’s best but the history was very interesting. Glad they did not hide the fact of slavery but acted just like people back then- like it was just “a fact of life.” They didn’t question it. Shows the mixture of the good and the faults of real people. Sad that it was so many years later that slavery was outlawed in America. I also like the fact that it shows how much disagreement there was among the founders of America. They had to learn how to work together and compromise. Something our current Congress could learn to do.

Great little gem of a movie! Awesome cast, good story. So touchingly relevant as I sit here today, being reminded of those Founders who gave their lives for our great country, and all who have fought and died since, for what She, and We The People, stand for... Dammit. ❤🤍💙

I found it interesting that they didn't feel the need to explain the Boston Massacre. The filmmaker assumed that it was generally known. I'd bet not one in ten people now would know the event on the scanty clues given in the movie. How our educational standard has fallen.

The loud voices are grueling. Stealing from the King, OMG. Matt is an idiot. And I hate his screaming. He treats his little boy differently because his foot is a little bent . So far I am not impressed with him. Not acting, just screaming.

Apparently in 1940, as in 1775 ish, there was still no thought of slaves as people who should be free as well.
@JoeLux-bp6ktАй бұрын
Yes. There were decades when movies weren't shown with slaves, or any blackface. Grant's style here reminded me of the movie 1776 & the personality of Lee of the first family of Virginia. The House of Burgess was well presented here.

Interesting the historical and the emotional people just doing what they thought was right in a new country. The terrible slavery of the Indian tribes and the black Americans but enjoyed the Nature of the film. Keith Roberts
