I suppose it's worth pointing out that he probably wouldn't have been the life-threatening situations in the first place if he didn't turn into the Hulk. But you bring a valid point. I feel like it's the show progressed, Banner began realizing that the Hulk was not evil, just dangerous because he didn't know what he was doing. He recognized the benefits of the Hulk, but he still wanted to get rid of it. It reminds me of the episode where he is paralyzed from the waist down, and he actually contemplates forcing himself to turn into the Hulk in order to heal.
