Yea, there's literally so many iconic beats, but Ceremony or Transmission for J.D. Probably the Village or Face Up for N.O.

Steve has been one of my favorite drummers for nearly 40 years. Great video! Steve’s style, and definitely his tunings, have had a huge influence on my playing. Seeing him play live in person was like a religious experience.

Well said about shifting gears with ‘blue Monday’ in the whole cultural field, the sound, the bands original sound I think blue Monday sounds like “atrocity exhibition”

Also look at OMD live 1981, OMD's original drummer, Malcolm Holmes, is also an excellent drummer and the very raw 1981 Architecture and Morality tour really shows off his drumming. And to think he was chosen simply because he would play for them. He did come back when the band reformed in ~2007 but he had to quit due to serious health which means that since the mid 2010's 90's OMD drummer Stuart Kershaw now does drum duties.

The bass drum shaking the tripod works! (was that intensional?) Its interesting to hear a person's personal druming styles and what feels easy for them. I Find all these beats akward and unpleasant to play, that how ever does not mean i dont like how they sound.

Not my favorite style of playing but I respect the stamina and great internal meter it took to play these parts. Neil Peart was obviously great but how many Rush tunes can you dsnce to?

Good choice... I'd like to think Mr Morris was influenced a little by Warren Cann, one of the pioneers combining acoustic and electronic drums with drum machines.

Depends on the song, sometimes it’s both at once! Check out the early performances. Ceremony & Temptation in 1981 are great examples, he’s so fun to watch. I just saw them live and he was on the drum set most of the time.

Stephen effing Morris. Thank you!!! And hey not to say he wasn't great but the older I get, the more I get to thinking that Neil Peart might be the most over rated drummer of all time. It kinda hurts to say it, but there it is.

Hey Cobb, I wasn't allowed to comment on your Charlie Watts video because comments were turned off. Sorry to get geeky on you but it was actually Producer Jimmy Miller who played drums on "You Can't Always Get What You Want. An obscure fact for sure and not trying to nitpik you, thought you might want to know though. Apparently Charlie just couldn't feel that one in the studio. Happens.

@@davidwak680 oh no worries! I just felt bad I gave the wrong information and didn’t put a more iconic Charlie beat in its place but now that you’re reminding me, I just realized KZbin has a feature where you can edit clips out of the video so I think I can do that. So I actually owe you a big thanks! I’ll get on that then enable the comments again 😅 Ringo was my first drum teacher!!!

@@cobb_thedrummer Very cool on all counts. In the late 90s I worked at a music store with two other drummers who were Fusion snobs. Dave Weckl was God and Ringo and Charlie sucked in their eyes. I was like "Wait a minute! You can't play on dozens of hits and suck, just doesn't happen." ( Plus how many hits did Dave Weckl play on?). As I commented on one of your videos, I appreciate that you cover interesting and influential drummers like Ringo or Mo Tucker, not just chops drummers.
